Directv NFL Ticket.... (2 Viewers)

Cancelled ST last week. I didnt ask for a deal nor was I offered one. I honestly only want the redzone channel. They will call again but if I cant get it alone for <50, I will simply go without it. I find myself not going out for games or hangin with the fellas simply to justify the purchase at home.

it cost them basicly nothing to provide you the service. so even if you get sunday ticket free, and pay half for your package , they are still making a profit from you . win win, they get more than thay would have if you walked away, and you get Cheaper TV and free football
Basically nothing? They paid the NFL 4 billion dollars for the rights to Sunday ticket.

I did this last year and I did this again yesterday..it works..

First off, you have to understand, there are 2 SUNDAY TICKET packages..the NFL SUNDAY TICKET, and the NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX. I got the Max last year and again this year for free, heres how I did it.

Here are the two plans and what each one entails.

NFL Sunday Ticket retails $199.95:

1) Every out of market game, every sunday, all in HD

2) Up to 8 games at once on the MIX channel

3) Player Tracker: Track up to 18 players

4) Real-time stats and scores

NFL Sunday Ticket Max retails 299.95

1) Every out of market game, every sunday, all in HD

2) Up to 8 games at once on the MIX channel

3) Player Tracker: Track up to 18 players

4) Real-time stats and scores

5) Every NFL Sunday Ticket game on your computer, tablet, or phone

6) Red Zone Channel

7) Short Cuts: See whole games in 30 minutes

Basically you want the SUNDAY TICKET MAX so that you can enjoy all the games plus the red zone channel. Heres how to get it for free..

1) New customers always get Sunday ticket for free, so if your a new customer , your entitled to it..but I believe you have to have a 1 or 2 year deal with directv. I reccommend it over cable anyway.

my way of getting it for free was this:

2) my method: existing customers: Call directv customer service (1-800-directv), ask to speak DIRECTLY to the cancellation department, the regular customer service agents cannot help you nor do they have the authority to give you sunday ticket for free.. once the cancellation department picks up the phone, here is a transcript of what i said:

DTV: Hello may I help you

ME: I'd like to go ahead and cancel my services with direct tv

DTV: We are sorry to hear that, let me pull up your account.. Is there a reason why your cancelling?

ME: I only have direct tv because of SUNDAY TICKET..and my neighbor just got sunday ticket for FREE, so I can just go to his house and watch the games. I pay alot of money for directtv, I have HD receivers, I have dvr's, and it costs me alot to keep the service, and since I only really want it for sunday ticket, I just assume get rid of it, and I can go to my neighbors and watch the games.

DTV: Hold on sir, let me check something. (wait).. sir, we can go ahead and offer you the sunday ticket for 2012 for free this year sir.

ME: Well that sounds good, but I really want the Sunday Ticket Max

DTV: Well to add the Max onto it, it would be an extra charge sir

ME: How much extra:

DTV: let me check...well we can offer the Max to you free of charge as well, if you agree to keep directtv for an additional year

ME: ok I'll do it

DTV: ok hold on just a second.. your account is confirmed for NFL Sunday Ticket Max for the 2012 season free of charge sir.

thats basically what I said and went through..its really easy.. you'll be surprised at how quick they give it to you. I started out years ago by negotiating a cheaper price for sunday ticket..now I just shoot for getting it for free..

I owe you a beer. Thanks

I will just add that I actually got them to add on MAX service WITHOUT extending my contract, which was to end in June 2013. He was hesitant but ended up saying yes. He then sent me to the confirmation department and the confirmation department guy tried to say they were extending my contract. I asked to be sent right back to cancellation again as that was not we agreed upon. Just be sure you are clear you are not extending your contract.

I tried a different approach, but this was after some problems in November of last year. I played some major hardball. I had a major issue with service and customer service managers and called and said to make sure my service did not renew. I then got a call back a few days later from a manager asking why I was not wanting to stay with DirecTV after said date and was waiting so long to cancel. (July 5th of this year)

I said I did not wish to pay the cancelation fee and that I am disgusted with your choice in management and that you would offer new customers something old customers did not get. I never got the sunday Ticket free as a new customer, but you charge me when you give it to others? Plus you still have your manager who cussed my fiance working for you, No thanks still wish to cancel, said nothing more and hung up.

I then got a call yesterday begging me to stay with them. They gave me Max for free this year and next if i renew my contract and stay with them for 2 more years. I passed, saying its about the principle, hung up again. He called back instantly then offered me every extra station at no extra cost for remainder of my 2 year contract as well. Along with free HD and DVR for 12 months.

I took it but I wonder if I would of got this if I did not have audio of their manager cussing me when I made the call last year?

Yup that was the catch, I had audio of the manager going off on my fiance. And am still in the process of going up the ladder to show my disgust, no wonder they are doing everything they can.

dont know if the manager has been fired, but I have a pretty good hookup for the next 2 years at 70 bux a month, I could not get that if I cancelled and went somewhere else.

Point is you fight hard enough for what you believe, you will get it.

Do any of you guys do Phone/Internet through D-TV too? What are their prices like? I'm paying $117 a month for Internet/TV/Phone with my cable company. (and I only get basic cable)

Just called and negotiated ST/Max for $199. They then gave me a one time credit of $100 then gave me $10 off per month for 12 months. In the end I pay $99 next month then have $120 in credits spread over 1 year, I'll take that.

just spoke with the very kind ellie from tx.

charged me 99.60 for sunday ticket and then gave me a 99.60 credit for being a loyal customer.

also gave me free hd for a year and took 5 bucks a month for a year off my total choice package.

so, free sunday ticket and 15 a month off bill

did the song and dance yesterday.

I have been a customer for 6 years and have always called for a deal with the exception being the first year. I was not expecting much since I was still under contract until next year, but still got hooked up.

received 250 credit towards my bill for the ST Max and 20 dollars off my bill for the duration of the contract. Also got free showtime and starz for 6 months. So, I pay 50 bucks for the Max package and my bill has been lowered by 20 bucks for the next year. GREAT deal. You can pretty much say anything you want, just be nice and dont be too much of an #####. I am really looking forward to next year when my contract is up. gonna take them to the cleaners. Last time my contract was up I got free hardware, bill credits, etc.....

We did an internet bundle through DTV for a while, but I'm pretty sure everything varies by location. They don't actually provide the other services, they just sort of partner up with a local provider and you get a discounted rate for all 3. For example, I think in Cincinnati, they partnered up with Cincinnati Bell to offer a bundle and you could just pay it all in one bill for one price each month. As for the topic of this thread, the key thing is to try not to get locked into a contract. As long as you aren't tied into a contract, then calling and saying "cancel" carries a lot of weight and makes it pretty easy to get some great discounts.

Mimo and Steelerfan, did you follow the suggested approach above, or did you go a different route?
hi grantsa4,had actualy called at&t prior to directv to get my bill down some with them as well, and they threw a pretty good offer on their tv package out to me so i had some info to throw out at directv.stated to directv i loved their service and had no complaints, hated to leave, but needed to save money.

I just got it for free as long as I agreed to a 12 month commitment to DirecTV to maintain service.

The first time I called, I asked if they could offer RedZone channel by iteself (even though I knew they couldn't). Told them Dish network charges $7 per month for a similar channel. They told me that you needed the whole Ticket package (which I already knew). Told them I would probably switch providers then. She didn't offer anything and we hung up.

Called right back in and said "cancel account" when prompted. Was tranferred to cancelation department. Told them I was considering canceling account and what that involved (shipping back equipment, etc). She told me the process and then asked why I was considering canceling. Told her the same story - that all I want is RedZone channel and Dish offers a similar channel for $7 per month. She told me SundayTicket is only $199 this year. Told her that was still too much. She said they could offer it for free if I agreed to a 12 month commitment to DirecTV.

Wildcat, make sure you got the ST Max, or you will not have the Redzone channel this year.
It wasn't. :kicksrock: So now I either call them back and ask for it, even though I've already agreed to their terms, or pay for it. I'm thinking of calling back and saying I was mislead because my reason behind canceling was the RedZone issue from the start.

Thats what i would do. Call them back say that the only reason you agreed was because you wanted the RZ channel. Now you find out that regular ST won't have it. They should comp you it..

Yep, just did that and they upgraded me for free. :thanks: I appreciate you mentioning that. I probably wouldnt have noticed until September.

You guys all want something for nothing. Whatever happened to paying for a service that you enjoy? Bunch of moochers in this thread.

If you really complained about it you probably could have got some more stuff from them. glad you got it worked out though.

haters gonna hate! ;)
I'm not hating. It doesn't even affect me because I don't have DirecTV. But it's interesting that there are so many of you that really seem to enjoy the NFL Sunday Ticket (and especially the Red Zone Channel), but you're not willing to pay for it.I blame DirecTV in this, as well. But people calling up each year, working off of a script ... that's just lame.

What I would argue with you here though is this:If I pay x for DirecTV...I could go to a competitor that provides a similar service for 75-80% of x. Over the course of a year, this would be a savings of $250-300. As such, I use the fact that I pay more for DirecTV versus their competitor to get a unique service they provide for a lesser charge. This year, I negotiated essentially $170 worth of savings over what I would have paid previously while also getting ST which makes my gross savings $270. Which about makes up the difference.I don't think it's a matter of mooching so much as it is a matter of pricing the marketplace and determining fair value for services provided. DirecTV doesn't want to lose a customer who pays every bill on time so they're willing to negotiate and I don't want to lose access to a unique programming package. It's win-win.

If it costs that much more than a competitor, just switch then. If you enjoy the service, then you are justifying the $200-$300 price tag because if you didn't want ST you would switch to the competitor.

You pay your bills on time. Good job out of you. You SHOULD pay your bills on time. Just because some people don't isn't a reason that you should be able to get something for free.

I'm just saying that you guys have no intention of actually cancelling when you call them up. You are just gaming the system. But other subscribers end up paying for your freebies. You guys are no better than people that collect welfare when they are perfectly capable of earning a living if they just applied themselves.

Why wouldn't I cancel? And who is arguing about whether someone should or should pay bills on time? Firms like Equifax make billions of dollars because other companies like DirecTV pay for their Credit Services to determine who are good or bad risks to answer that very question. If you want to get all Charles Sykes (google him) on the board...feel free. But this isn't a good example to do it on...what's at work here is free enterprise.

Elasticity. It's a basic economic principle. There's nothing untoward happening here.

Why wouldn't I cancel?
Because you want the Sunday Ticket. That's why. If you didn't, you would actually cancel, because you say that you can save hundreds of dollars by switching to a competitor.
And who is arguing about whether someone should or should pay bills on time?
YOU did. Post #378. Last paragraph. You used it as justification for negotiating your deal.

Googled him. Some guy in Wisconsin with a radio show who wrote a book entitled, "A Nation of Moochers" (among others). Sounds like a smart fella. Other people paying for other people's stuff is one reason we're in this financial mess we call America.Just pony up and pay for the things you want. It really is as simple as that. I'm done here.

good get out of here and complain about something else someplace else HATER. Its this simple. The system is bigger than you and you cannot grasp it. So when you see others doing better for themselves you get jealous and try to bring them down by calling them moochers. DirecTV is playing the game as are we. If they wanted they could let us cancel. They dont want that because they are making money regardless. if you dont want to play dont hate the people that do. you dont even have direcTV, real question is why did even post in here?

I'd switch though if ST wasn't given to me. If Dish Network charges $30-40 less for their very similar product to DirecTV...then if I don't get ST for free, what's the incentive for me to stay for the extra $30-40/month? I'm willing to stay with DirecTV because they've shown a willingness to negotiate with me for this unique portion of their service offering. Switching TV service is simple...doesn't really put me out. At 3PM I had DirecTV...at 3:30PM I can have Dish Network so long as I plan/arrange. DirecTV doesn't negotiate on future ST packages. Hence, this exercise is done every year.As for justification for negotiating my deal...that's not what I did. What I did was leverage my good customer standing knowing that businesses want/desire/crave customers like me versus ones that are delinquint. I've provided them 7 years (5 of which I've done sans any signed contract)...that counts for something in business. If my payment history was spotty over a shorter period of time, do I think I get the same offer? No.Fact is, my credit affords me the ability to negotiate lots of things (mortgage rates, auto loan rates, most borrowing terms). The idea that I or anyone similar should just pay whatever because a company charges a price irrespective of market forces is naive.

regarding my situation,i absolutely was prepared to cancel.directv offers sunday ticket free to new subscribers and ask money from their long time customers for the same product the new people don't pay for.that sound cool to you?all i was asking for is that my years of being a customer untitles me to the same as someone who is just coming onboard.it is up to me to try to get the best deal possible for myself and up to directv to decide if it is a sound business move to give it to me.do you pay full price when you buy a car, house, etc, or do you try to negotiate?if you don't try to negotiate, please PM me if you ever want to buy a car or home in NC.

If Directv wasn't making a nice chunk of change off me, they wouldn't hand it out for free. Think about why they want a 12 month commitment for giving the freebies. Because they make way more than 300 bucks a year off me. And yeah I would cancel without ST.

I would have cancelled if they didn't get reasonable.

$300 on top of your normal billing is BS

$200 for the ST with no MAX is criminal.

Happy to get it for a FAIR price.

Any word if they are going to offer the ticket over the PS3 again this year? It was pretty crappy last year but better than nothing.

Heard they only had issues for the first 2 weeks and then all was stellar. Looking forward to trying it this year (No DirectTV) but as of now, it is not showing up under the PS3 TV channels (Where NEtflix and Hulu are). Of course, with Cox and RZ for only $40 bucks, I may just stick with that. Who knows/

The first week was a complete debacle. After that it got better but Red Zone channel continued to freeze during the entire season and early games often had hiccups. The visual quality for all of the games was pixelated and spotty the entire season as well. But I wanted it mostly for the Chargers games which usually air in the afternoon so it worked out ok.

Just made my annual call and got a very nice and helpful lady. I was looking to break my previous best and get not only a good NFL deal but a new DVR box and whole home DVR service. Said 'cancel service' on the automated thingy. Got the lady. Said I was thinking of switching to Dish cause they are offering $20/mo service for 2 years and have "The Hopper" and Redzone channel. She was like whaaaaat, you don't want the hopper! You ain't switching to dish! I can get you NFL for free! We'll get you DVR! You just hold right there you ain't switching! She was literally excited to give me everything in her power.

She proceeded to give me the most disgustingly good offer i've ever gotten. $200 whole home DVR installation for free. $200 HD DVR box she couldn't get for free, said it would be $100. I agreed. But then she offered to offset the $100 charge by giving me $20 discount for 6 months. Completely free NFL ticket. (Not sure if I got Max, she said there was only one option she could select that said 1 year free NFL ticket). I am guessing it's not Max and I might have to call later if I want to change that. She also threw in 2 months of all premium movie channels free (HBO Showtime Starz).

So all in all I got paid $20 to upgrade receiver, get whole home DVR, NFL package, and 2 free months of movie channels. Pretty amazing.

P.S. All this and I was actually under contract for 1 more year still. I did have to extend my existing contract by an additional year which I had no problems with considering the offer.

How dare you haggle for the cost of the Sunday Ticket?! What? You negotiated a new price for your car, too?? You're gaming the system! And you didn't negotiate at the flea market did you? Communist!

just called armed with Dish Network offer (whole home DVRC, my same pay channels and Redzone at $20 less per month than DTV).

Went right to cancel service. Was offered whole home DVR install free ($199 normally)plus an upgrade of 1 box to HD-DVR (I already have one and other 2 boxes are HD) for $50. I said that was OK but needed a deal on the football package. Got that plus Redzone for free too. I did have to take a 1 year contact but that's fine since I only call once a year anyway.

I passed on the free box since that would have been a 2nd year to the contract and we didn't need one. I still think I may have been able to do better but I'll see when I cancel HBO and Showtime next week (my wife is watching something on SHOW that ends next week).

So free whole home install and free full football package.

Is there a reason why your cancelling?ME: I only have direct tv because of SUNDAY TICKET..and my neighbor just got sunday ticket for FREE, so I can just go to his house and watch the games. I pay alot of money for directtv, I have HD receivers, I have dvr's, and it costs me alot to keep the service, and since I only really want it for sunday ticket, I just assume get rid of it, and I can go to my neighbors and watch the games.DTV: Hold on sir, let me check something. (wait).. sir, we can go ahead and offer you the sunday ticket for 2012 for free this year sir.ME: Well that sounds good, but I really want the Sunday Ticket MaxDTV: Well to add the Max onto it, it would be an extra charge sirME: How much extra:DTV: let me check...well we can offer the Max to you free of charge as well, if you agree to keep directtv for an additional yearME: ok I'll do itDTV: ok hold on just a second.. your account is confirmed for NFL Sunday Ticket Max for the 2012 season free of charge sir.thats basically what I said and went through..its really easy.. you'll be surprised at how quick they give it to you. I started out years ago by negotiating a cheaper price for sunday ticket..now I just shoot for getting it for free..
