Divisional Round **New York at Philadelphia** (-8, 48). San Fran or Dallas at Philly in the NFCC (1 Viewer)

- Giants on a short week, Eagles coming off a bye
- 3rd road game in a row
- Home team trying to beat a team for the 3rd time in the same season is 13-6

The current spread is 7.5 and the Giants have been good ATS (14-4) and really good ATS as an underdog (11-2). So I expect the Giants to lose but cover the 7.5 point spread.

I don't think the "short week" really is in play here. A saturday night game isn't much different than a Sunday at 1 and its only 1.5 hour bus ride.

That said I agree with you prediction

The last four seasons, teams coming off a bye week have a straight up record of 68-60 (53%) and against the spread record of 64-62-2 (51%)

The last four seasons, teams playing on short rest after a Monday Night game have gone 58-66 (47%) straight up the next week and 56-68 (42%) against the spread.

The extra day matters.

I appreciate the statistics. But I'll toss most of them aside in this game. It's division rivals in the playoffs. We saw how that can play out with The Bills/Dolphins and Bengals/Ravens.
With both of the underdogs playing backup qb's. These teams know each other well. Daboll and his coaching staff learned a lot about The Vikings in the regular season game and it showed in the playoff game. Daniel Jones had the best game of his career last week but truth be told he's been playing very well all season. I think we see more of Saquon Barkley in this game, only 14 touches last week but huge production. The key may be Hurts health(say that 5 times fast) He admitted to being very sore after the last regular season game and they did limit him running the ball. The week off should help, but if he's not 100% I believe The Giants have a punchers chance. A road team is going to win this week, maybe two. Why not...

Yeah I was wavering prior to yesterday's games and was feeling like the team I wanted to face the least was the Giants. However, I had it in my mind (incorrectly) that they were coming in with some kind of momentum. I looked at their schedule and the Giants over the last 10 weeks of the season were 3-6-1. More importantly, in that time span they scored 3 TDs three times (once was against us in total garbage time). They scored 13 against Seattle, 18 against Detroit, 20 against Dallas and Washington, 22 against us (but really that game was out of hand when they scored late), 20 against Washington, 24 against the Vikings, 10 against the Colts and 16 against us in a meaningless game.

The point is this team cannot score enough points to keep up with us. They DID put up 31 points against the Vikings, but they are arguably the worst defense in the league. We are arguably the best. I think we all have some recency bias in that the last time the Eagles a. were healthy, and b. had a gameplan in place to use Hurts effectively was probably the last time we played the Giants and nearly dropped a ****ing 50 burger on them.

For all the hype that Wink Martindale gets for bringing heat so often, they don't have any double digit sack guys. The concern with Lane coming back at less than 100% was potentially being matched up with Parsons. The Giants don't really have any really good edge rushers which helps the Lane situation a lot.

Hockenson grabbed 10 passes for 130 yards yesterday. Goedert should have his way with this defense.

I just don't see a scenario* where we don't blow the doors off this team.

*Assuming that the local beat guys are correct in saying Lane looks much better than expected and Hurts should be very close to healthy.

The Giants are easy to root for and everyone likes an underdog story however Giants matched up well with Minnesota and quite frankly Minnesota isn't that good of a team. Eagles/Giants game will be competitive due to the division rival factor, but in the end Eagles are a better team all around (If Hurts is healthy) and Eagles win by 2 TD's.

If the Giants try and take away Brown with similar coverage, the Eagles present a host of different problems for NY than MIN did. With all due respect to Thielen, he's not nearly the threat that DeVonta Smith is. Also, Hurts is a threat with his legs so you'll have to take a guy out of coverage to spy which they didn't need to do with Cousins. The Giants just have no way to defend what the Eagles can do.

The one impressive thing I noticed from NY was their DTs were manhandling the Vikings center on Sunday. Kelce is going to have to be on top of his game.

Feels like an NFC East Conference Final could be on the horizon

It's Tuesday but I like the Eagles to win handily this weekend
I also believe AJBrown will bring plenty of experience over from his time with Tennessee and be a calming force for Hurts in that huddle.
Surgeon like from Hurts, Sanders and the ground n pound, they should win this game easily

Philadelphia 31
NewYork Gia17
-All I do is take the point total Vegas provides and typically split it using traditional scores. 31 to 17 is a common score at the end on a football game.

I do think the Eagles have a chance to win the game by double digits and the Giants IMHO have gotten as far as they can go with Daniel Jones at QB and very little at Wide Receiver.
Barkley could always cause a fuss and have a big game but Philly has all the firepower to keep up with a Running Back if that is the only weapon the Giants can produce.

Barkley/Jones running abilities worry me, Eagles obviously had trouble stopping the run for a good stretch in the middle of the season but they have been better down the stretch with the defensive line healthy. As an intangible Eagles have the younger QB and that was the winning factor in all playoff games so far.

You were not incorrect in terms of momentum
Over the last 5 games (including the playoff game) the Giants are 3-2
One of those losses was on a 61-yard FG and the other loss came while they were resting players because they had nothing to play for. They scored over 30 in 2 of those wins.

I still think the Eagles win but Giants cover

While the Eagles clearly have a huge advantage talent-wise, I don’t know how much you can draw from the boat racing the Eagles delivered to the Giants in their first game. Consider (and I say all this while knocking on wood as a giants fan):

- The Giants offense is operating at a much higher level than it was in week 14. Sure, some of that is padded by playing bad defenses, but a lot of that has to do with the evolution of the schemes and the health on offense. The Giants offensive line, which was decimated in the middle of the year, has been healthy the last few weeks and is finally coming together in a way that only consistent reps together can get you. Add in Saquon finally being near 100% and you can see DaBoll being able to evolve this offense and play agressive like they want to. Sure, I expect the Eagles Dline to cause lots of problems, but they have a lot more options to slow it down than they did in Week 14.

- The Giants played Week 14 without their two best players in the secondary and it showed. Just look at the difference Adore and McKinney made against the Vikings. Add in that Dex has been playing out of his mind the last month, and Leo will be beside him unlike week 14, and Wink has a lot more tools at his disposal.

Not saying the Giants will certainly win, but I think it can be a close game. Most of it comes down to Hurts health and wether they need to protect him more than normal. And turnovers….it always comes down to protecting the ball. Should be fun!

On paper, I dont think Giants have much of a shot. But theres just something about Daboll and Jones that makes me think they have as good a shot as any pulling the upset.
Hurts is the key. If he's healthy they should be ok. If not then the Giants could pull it off.

Right I get that but like said, the teams against which they scored 30 are legitimately two of the worst defenses in the entire league. The eagles, by pretty much every metric are top 2-3 in the league.

Any given Sunday, of course, but I’d be surprised if they cover and shocked if they upset.

@unckeyherb The only way I see the Eagles losing is if they turn the ball over like they did against Washington (4 times in that game). I think it will have to be at least 3 times for NY to pull off an upset. I doubt Philly will turn the ball over that many times against NY, they just don't create many turnovers. I feel like Philly is going to turn NY into a one dimensional team and shut down the pass totally. I think they'll be in a lot of 3 and 5+ yards to go situations all day long. I get a kick out of the poster who said the Giants were 3-2 in their last 5 like that constitutes momentum. The Eagles were 3-2 in their last 5 and we think they're limping into the playoffs. Different perspectives I guess.

Tough game to figure. Haven’t watched much Philly, but I’ve seen a lot of the Giants. NY may be the best coached team I’ve seen this season. If they get smoked, it’s because Philly is just better.

They don’t really score points (games against Indy and Vikings-two of the worst defenses in the league-notwithstanding).
They are one of the most penalized teams in the league. Their defensive coordinator brings the heat a ton but they have zero double digit sack holders. They are a nice story. The last meaningful game we played against them we legitimately could have scored 60 points (we scored 48 and basically stopped playing) and that was without Dallas Goedert.

The simple fact of the matter is that in order to beat the Eagles they will have to put up mid to high 30 points and I just can’t see them doing it.

To be fair, per @Snotbubbles post above the only game that we legit lost was against Washington where turned the ball over a ton. If we can avoid that, we win this one going away.

If this is because of having backup a QB, there's a few teams playing 2nd and 3rd stringers that would like their losses deemed illegit :-)

No doubt the Eagles defense is much better than any of the defenses the Giants have played recently. I’m sure the Eagles will take advantage of Evan Neal at RT and limit the Giants offense.

The Giants defense must be much better than they were in that 1st meeting and I think that they will. They will have 3 of their best defensive players that they didn’t have for that 1st meeting (Leonard Williams, Adoree Jackson & Xavier McKinney)

I see four possible outcomes. 1) Eagles blow Giants out, 2) Eagles win close game, 3) Giants win close game, 4) Giants blow Eagles out.

Only #4 would surprise me

It’s not just because of that. We lost one game with Jalen. The other two we played vanilla defense and nothing on offense with Minshew needing to win one game out of three. He couldn’t get it done so we started Jalen and won again. Honestly think we phoned it in due to winning every game but one leading into the end of the year. That’s a privilege and they earned it. But yeah, we had one legitimate loss, IMO. I think we’d have beaten Dallas (almost did anyway) and certainly the saints if Jalen played and we NEEDED to win those games

Like most games, turnovers will be key.

The Eagles can lose this game if NY gets into a groove running, establishing ball control and keeping the PHI O on the bench. If PHI gets up and the Giants have to play catch up or match them shot for shot...they'll struggle to win.

Obviously the Eagles are the best at everything and the Giants have no shot. I’m not even sure why these two division rivals will even bother to participate.

Joe Monta…. I mean Jalen Hurts will put on a passing clinic without the aid of his legs whatsoever.

Eagles 27
Giants 9

I read that the winner of the Cowboys/49ers game is just going to forfeit the following week rather than bother traveling to Philly. It’s sad, but who could blame them?

The Eagles are literally the best at everything.

Wait...they're not complaining how unfair it is that they have to play a team on a short week when that team has an extra days rest. How unfair. Here's a hint...win more games and you'll get a bye.

Back to the game thread, I swear Cowboys fans can't stop paying attention to what the Eagles do, its weird.

I just don't see DJ having the time he did or the space he did against MN. We have better pass rushers, LBs and secondary, pretty much in every facet our defense is superior to Minnesota.

I will concede they should be better with Adoree Jackson and Leonard Williams. We should also be better with Dallas Goedert. In the end, I just think we are too talented to lose. 13-0 in games where we win the turnover battle with Jalen Hurts at QB. Yeah sure, NYG are 6-0 against 1 seeds since 1990. I love stats like this b/c it has zero effect on this game unless ya know, one of these instances were in the past 5 years. More recent stuff like "Giants have lost 8 straight games in Philadelphia and 15 out of the last 18" are stats I feel would have more bearing on this matchup.

But hey, its entertainment in the end right!? Unless we lose the turnover battle I don't see how this is close.

Not me. I’m hoping the Cowboys can go into SF and knock them out then travel to Philly and knock them out. They probably won’t beat the 9ers and obviously have no shot at beating the Eagles, but what could be better than that ?

Honestly that's what my best bud from high school from Maryland (also a Cowboys fan that's never been to the state of Texas) said too. And I respect that. So I guess no one is rooting for the Giants like I was last week, that I know of, in Cowboys world. Everyone wants that Dak vs Jalen Title Bout I guess. I would be happy to have two divisional games at home as the path to the Super Bowl, would be a chef's kiss if it happens.

Obviously the Eagles are the best at everything and the Giants have no shot. I’m not even sure why these two division rivals will even bother to participate.

Joe Monta…. I mean Jalen Hurts will put on a passing clinic without the aid of his legs whatsoever.

Eagles 27
Giants 9
PREACH!

you and @Cowboysfan8 are really starting to make sense.
Gotta love the bitterness haha. My Cowboys fans family members are more like "WISH WE WERE PLAYING THE GIANTS AT HOME TOO" right right.
Not me. I’m hoping the Cowboys can go into SF and knock them out then travel to Philly and knock them out. They probably won’t beat the 9ers and obviously have no shot at beating the Eagles, but what could be better than that ?

Fun stat...Teams are 0-15 the week after playing SF this season. That is either a strange coincidence or SF really beats teams up.

ETA: Also putting the cart before the horse but if Philly wins and Dallas wins, Dallas will have to play their 5th straight road game.

Good stats here. For the record, if we do lose, I will NOT take this loss well. Would be one of the biggest all time chokes/came up way to short teams I have ever rooted for.

playing teams in the same divisino 3 times is no gimmie as wild card weekend and last year's playoffs proved, the only bet I'm considering right now would be the under 24 first half but likely to not bet this game at all unless I can find a good line in vegas.

You don’t have to convince me dude, if Dallas would somehow luckily get past SF I already know they have no shot at beating Philly

That's true. I'm sure you'll try and talk yourself into a Dallas victory next week if they get by the 49ers though.

Nothing wrong with that.
