DMAC could miss week 3 (1 Viewer)

Darren McFadden (turf toe) was spotted in a protective walking boot as the Raiders broke for practice late Wednesday. It's time to pick up Michael Bush, who has a real chance to start Sunday at Buffalo. McFadden did not take part in Wednesday's workout, and while the boot may be precautionary, there are indications that he's in danger of missing Week 3. Justin Fargas (groin pull) is virtually certain to be out. Source: Oakland Tribune

I'm not sure Bush is up to the task. He's never impressed me all that much. His team is terrible and his matchup this week against the Bills is awful. That said, he does have opportunity, which you just can't ignore. His good matchup was last week against the Chiefs. He could be decent for a spot play against weaker opponents down the road, but I think DMac will play soon.

Bush was a top talent in college, almost destined to be a mid to late 1st round NFL pick, before he sustained the season ending injury in the 1st game of the season. He has the talent, and Raiders does one thing well, and it's running the ball. I wouldn't be suprised if he ends up being very useful for fantasy teams for better part of this season.

I caution people that the first part of these Rotoworld news clips are the ffacts and the second part is pure speculation. The San Fran newspaper had this to say just minutes ago . . .

McFadden gets the bootRaiders running back Darren McFadden came to practice wearing a protective boot on his right foot, there to take care of his bad case of turf toe.McFadden was joined on the sideline by starting running back Justin Fargas, who is out with a groin injury. No word yet on their status for Sunday's game at Buffalo.
As they indicated, no one knows anything for the upcoming weekend, so it's too soon to really know much of anything.

 Dave... how many times have we seen roto give a spin, then half the league logs on an goes after a player.Fact is, we have no idea what the status is; which is surprising... you would think if it was serious we would know by now.

Unless its real bad, I bet them give him carries.

I looked at the official injury report on the NFL site. The Raiders may just be late in filing their paperwork, but as of now they have no one listed on the injury report. One of the other Oakland papers has him slotted as Questionable, but that can't be offical since the official league injury report that comes out on Wednesdays uses full practice, limited practice, did not participate in practice, or out as designations.

I don't care who starts ---- turf toe = death.

mcfadden could gut out a start just like tomlinson did, and end up w/8 carries to bush's 22.

the only thing that team can do is run the ball.

Bad thread title. How about:

'McFadden misses practice'.

Then you don't need th question mark, like:

'gbill jumps to conclusions?'

Coach Lane Kiffin indicated that Darren McFadden (turf toe) could have played if the Raiders had a game Wednesday.McFadden didn't practice and was in a walking boot. The Raiders are expected to play if safe with the No. 4 overall pick in Week 3, and the Oakland Tribune suggests that Michael Bush "could be in for 25+ carries" against Buffalo if McFadden experiences pain early on. Keep track of this situation. Source: Oakland Tribune

Well . . . it must be something in the water today as there's pure speculation and writer's commentary in almost every fantasy ticker story out there today.Reading the article, the WRITER says:
Turf toe can be a lingering issue, so the Raiders will be careful with McFadden. If he experiences pain against the Bills, Michael Bush could be in for 25-plus carries if the game is in doubt, because the remaining two running backs are block-and-catch fullbacks Justin Griffith and Luke Lawton.
The TEAM didn't say that, the writer suggests that. And the head coach even said if there were a game today he would have played.I tend to believe what COACHES say more than what writers think they should do . . . but maybe that's just me.

How long is Fargas expected to be out? I own McFadden and just picked up Bush. Now the owner of Fargas has dropped him. If all 3 are healthy Fargas and McFadden are the ones to own. Is Fargas only expected to be out 3-4 weeks? I thought it was a strained groin. That's not a season ender is it?

Raiders beat writer Jerry McDonald guesses that Justin Fargas will miss Weeks 3 and 4 before Oakland's Week 5 bye.Fargas could use that time before Oakland visits New Orleans in Week 6. We'd hang onto him in 12-team leagues for now, but he's at risk of losing his starting job and spot in the rotation with Darren McFadden and Michael Bush. Source: Oakland Tribune

25 carries in Buffalo.... should be good for about 42 yards.

Is this the Oakland Tribune's fantasy writer's opinion? Do you really think Fargas would be passed up by Bush in 2 playing weeks?

To me the pertinent info in that article are:

1) neither Fargas nor McFadden practiced Wednesday. That doesn't mean they won't play, but generaly it isn't a good sign.

2) McFadden is in a boot. Again, not a good sign. Doesn't mean the boot won't come off Sunday, but usually boots are not good.

3) Kiffin's comment was not encouraging: “It doesn’t look very good right now,” coach Lane Kiffin said. “The sooner he can get back, the better for us. He’s very valuable to us, especially in protections, so, hopefully, we’ll have him back. But it doesn’t look very good.” Doesn't look very good---repeated twice. THAT doesn't look very good.

4) As for Fargas: the writer doesn't quote anyone but he claims that the Raiders are not optimistic and also says that Fargas' injury is worse than DMacs: "The injury to Fargas is more serious and the Raiders are not optimistic about his chances to play against the Bills.

This one will bear watching but if these guys are still sitting on the sidelines on Friday, it is time to jump on the Bush bandwagon. No matter what happens, when healthy, Dmac is going to get at least 50% of the reps; but I think the door is open for Bush to show what he can do and move ahead of Fargas in the team's long term plans and maybe carve out a time share for himself with DMac.

#3 is about Fargas NOT McFadden. I still think as a rule of thumb people need to evaluate an entire week of practice, not the first practice of the week. If someone is held out of practice all week, that's the point to be concerned. And the other article quoted Kiffin as saying that if the team had a game yestersday, McFadden would have been playing.

Its simple, he practices or even does a walk through this week, especially on Friday hes most likely good to go: You should start him.

If he misses all week, he'll be scratched or very limited in the game: he should be on your bench then

Another thing to keep an eye on is if they sign someone, Louis Rankin would probaly be first in line from the practice squad.

Running backs hurting

The success enjoyed by running backs Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday didn't come without a price.

Fargas sustained a groin injury. McFadden came away from the game with turf toe. On Wednesday, both players missed practice.

Kiffin said he is hopeful that McFadden will return to practice today. As for Fargas, Kiffin said: "It doesn't look very good right now."

Therefore, second-year player Michael Bush is the lone healthy back on the Raiders roster, and he touched the ball for the first time in his two-year NFL career only four days ago.
