I think that there are two items that could have an impact.1) There is a very good reason why the Dolphins where white at home (it is much cooler than a dark uniform)2) I think a very good defensive team may like a dark color to make it appear that they are everywhere (if you played against them you would know what I mean)

this might make sense.....

philly's offense plays pretty good in baby blue and neon yellow.

i perferm better in bed when painted up in native american warrior paint than in my normal peach skin tone.

I believe there have been studies done that show teams in black tend to be called for penalties more often.

Other than hot locations in the sun where the dark colors absorb more heat it doesn't make a difference. When the Seahawks went to JAX in week 1 of the SB year they wore dark jerseys and were completely dead by the 4th quarter.

Although at Boise State it plays a big deal since the blue of the jerseys matches the field. So maybe some green home jerseys work a little that way.

I gotta believe that the difference is negligible, in that a team who contemplates what color of jersey to use would probably be able to offset any change the jersey might make with a personnel swap on the field... but I honestly never really thought about it. I know that baseball has some pretty strict rules about uniforms, like no baseball images and no distracting colors on pitchers' equipment. So that in mind, is it illegal to have colors too similar to the turf, for fear of a camouflage effect? Would be torture for a QB, but I'd think DBs would love the camo effect on their INTs. Blocking turf-colored players might get a little trickier too. I wonder if there's a range of green colors that are not permitted. Anyone know?

I remember hearing about these studies as well, which is why hockey teams traditionally wore white at home (except now with third jerseys, throwback jerseys, etc., the norm may have slightly shifted.)The other side of these studies was that the team in darker colors had a psychological edge over their lighter counterparts in terms of aggressiveness, etc.

Red Covettes and players with red jerseys draw more attention from police and officials.

it's because they're black, isn't it?

I am pretty sure that NHL rotated between home and away jerseys every year so fans could see both. Not sure if this still happens with all the third jerseys though.

I don't think it makes a real difference performance-wise but I do believe it influences officials.
I heard something on TV about this long ago. How long? The examples were the Steelers and the Oilers...They said that in general dark colors drew more penalties.

I don't think the NHL ever rotated the home and away colors, but switched a few years ago to dark at home and light on the road in some Bettman plan to sell more merchandise.
