Where does taking the word of Putin instead of our intelligence agencies figure into your characterizations?
I have to trust our intelligence and military and the counsel Trump is taking. Time will tell. What input Putin has/had/will have is all guesses isn't it?

Obama - A total of 563 strikes, largely by drones, targeted Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen during Obama’s two terms

I didn't realize it was THAT many. Media didn't really cover it well did they?
And you know that because the Obama administration let it be public info.

How many drone strikes under Trump’s watch?  Don’t know, like most other things (golfing, document requests, etc) Trump keeps this a secret.

There isn’t any debate about the justification for taking out General Soleimani from virtually everyone. The question is was the timing right? What did it accomplish? What’s next? So if an attack was imminent there appears to be no question now as we send 2,800 troops to Iraq and tell all Americans to leave Iraq that an attack from Iran of some kind is imminent.

I actually do not trust that the Democrats (some of them) wouldn't have tried to alert the terrorists that attacks were coming

Look at the response - they do not support Trump nor this administration nor the strike - why in the WORLD give them a heads up and take the chance ? Trump didn't - nor should he have
So you just throw out that the Democrats would have committed treason to justify Trump's inaction. I do not think I need to hear more from you.  Ignore.

An irresponsible hypothetical for anyone to make and completely without justification. There is nothing to suggest, no evidence that any Democrat belonging to the Gang of Eight has ever done anything treasonous like this or would do so.

Scumbag or not,  I think the idea of taking out a high level member of the power structure of a sovereign Nation has the potential to be very problematic on the international scene going forward.....unless this was a legit declaration of war by the U.S.

which ironically is what Democrats have said about Trump for 3 years

if an elected official in the USA is speaking out against killing a terrorist like this .... highly questions the deeper motives of that elected official IMO

I'm concerned with how all this is going to go, I'm glad we have a President that's not weak.

He can be bought and that certainly is not a sign of strength.

Sorry but this is a crap answer.. (not you Stealthycat) There is a huge difference between politics and national security.   You want to know why they dont support Trump its actions like this.  President Trump is not a Dictator or King, but he acts like it.

What constitutes notifying congress for an attack like this?  I keep seeing this complaint.

I think they should have notified Pelosi. I can agree with that. She isnt a gum flapper, but some people in congress are. There is at least a non zero probability one of them would mess up, even unintentionally.
I am not saying they should of advised the entire Congress.. But you have to tell the leaders of each party and those like the Gang of eight..  To tell one party to me is where it was wrong.

I am 100% confident any individual you ask here will agree that the guy should be dead.  He's a terrible human being and caused many Americans to lose their lives.  Full Stop.  Where the argument goes off the rails and the paths diverge is in the "how" it gets done.  This guy is a military leader of another state.  There are rules for engagement.  Clearly people want to ignore that and lump this guy in with every other rogue terrorist out there.  It's pretty disappointing given the chest thumping around "law and order" that had been done previously.  The Venn diagram seems to be a rather large circle.  The flat out misleading stories on this are appalling to me.  I took a spin around our "media" this weekend to see how it was being covered and I was disgusted once again.  No idea how some of you watch any of that crap.  It's so dishonest.

Note to self: If I ever become dictator in a repressed nation, appoint my top terrorists to official government positions and then the bleeding hearts of opposing enemy nations will declare them off limits.

Check your notebooks gents.  Someone was recently put on a TO, and a new member just joined...

Also, what's up with Trump escalating things by threatening to strike cultural sights? Way to win hearts and minds of the Iranian people. Unbelievably dumb.

tough

when Democrats consistently bow to down to foreign powers, speak out against fighting terrorism, send pallets of cash etc ............. who would you call a true American ?

Iran directly was responsible for attacking a US Embassy right?  Democrats should all applaud the strong response. Instead, they play politics - its sick
Kim Jung-un gives back an American he captured, beat into a coma, who dies weeks later and he’s Trumps new BFF. Why not drone that guy instead of writing him love letters? True American.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/qassem-soleimani-was-responsible-for-the-deaths-of-hundreds-of-american-soldiers

Qassem Soleimani, the Iranian military general who was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Iraq on Thursday, was responsible for the deaths of over 600 U.S. soldiers in Iraq.

“General Soleimani and his Quds Force were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American and coalition service members and the wounding of thousands more,” the Pentagon said. “He had orchestrated attacks on coalition bases in Iraq over the last several months — including the attack on December 27th — culminating in the death and wounding of additional American and Iraqi personnel. General Soleimani also approved the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad that took place this week.”

One could build a case for Putin too, along with other heads of state and or government officials in various countries who are bad people and responsible for the deaths of others without trial or due process.

But is that what we want as a country? Roving assassination or death squads operating at the whim of POTUS to exterminate those that we label as terrorists or bad people?

The answer is apparently "yes" now. Our leaders are labeled as terrorists by other countries so I guess it's open season.

Oof. You sure you want to go with this characterization based upon what to date might have been an isolated, one time, and likely justified strike that saved Americans who were the target of the person eliminated? I don't see many people supporting this in the 4 hours that have passed since you typed it.

Explain to me how killing these people stop an attack?

1. If undecided, l'll read that as a flat "no".

2. I'm okay without congress.

3. Trump had previously said if you attack Iran it's to help get re-elected.

4. I'm not against the attack. I vote YES.

5. After what our history is in Iran and Iraq... why the hell wouldn't we be subjected to attacks from the people in that area???  If that stuff happened to us, we'd go world-war-3 over it.

Looks like the Iran thread is gone, but here is your update.

(CNN)Iran has issued an arrest warrant for US President Donald Trump over the drone strike that killed a top Iranian general in January, the semi-official Fars news agency reported Monday.

Trump is one of 36 people Iran has issued arrest warrants for in relation to the death of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), according to Fars, but the Tehran attorney general Ali Alqasi Mehr said Trump was at the top of the list.

Mehr claimed Trump would be prosecuted as soon as he stands down presidency after his term ends, Fars reported.

That is an unusual step Iran took. I don't think I've heard of a nation issuing an arrest warrant for another nation's leader before.
