Overall I am not a big fan of the Goodell era. I think he has really tried to clean up the game of bad guys which is a good thing. I hate his push to globalize the game. We do not need games in London never mind a team located there. I also think he has done a horrible job addressing the collective bargaining agreement. This is a huge mess looming on the horizon and nothing is being done about it.

I voted no. I am opposed to expansion of the game (both in # of teams and length of season)These seem to be high priorities on his agenda. The NFL is PERFECT the way it is with 32 teams and a 16 game season. I wish they would leave it alone.
I agree about no expansion..too many crappy teams right now.

The push to globalize the game comes from the Owners, the approach to a new CBA comes from the Owners, Goddall is doing what the Owners are telling him to do in these areas. The reason is simple the Owners want more money. How do they get it - more teams and give less money to the players in a new CBA.

I guess it does not matter who the commissioner is then.

He will definitely be known for his discipline and I applaud him for that. I never want to see the league go down the path of the NBA. A good image goes a long way for fan popularity, the money needs to keep rolling in

Even though his very public crackdown on what he sees as bad behavior by players hasn't done anything to cut down on bad behavior by players, it makes people feel good. So I'd expect he'll come out on top in this poll.

Making a genuine effort to put a team in England (whether it happens or not) earns him a fat "no" vote from me.

The guy needs to take a few classes in public speaking. He was brutally awkward in his TV interview this morning. Can you say "zero personality"?

While a lot of the fines and stuff are ridiculous, the players make enough to afford them. Still, I dont like all this reduced contact and reduced showboating. We pay to see that stuff.

I guess it does not matter who the commissioner is then. You can evaluate him on the decisions within his control but basing an evaluation on Goodell on factors outside of his control is worthless. I personally think his job performance is marked improvement to the former commissioner.

Overseas games.
Can anyone detail why this is a bad thing? I heard them mention this morning that they sold 80K tickets in 6 minutes for this game. If we're rating Goodell's job performance this sounds decidedly like a positive, not a negative.

Makes people feel good? This is an entertainment industry, is it not?

@HubbuchNYP: For all the fans griping to me during the lockout that NFL players are overpaid, I give you Roger Goodell’s $29 million 2011 salary.

:goodposting: I think the evidence of this is, well self-evident. No decrease on NFL players egregiously breaking laws off the field, but seems to be consensus that Goodell and the NFL is intolerant of the behavior and will crack down on it. Nothing tangibly changed, yet good PR.

@Jerrold_Colton: NFL Comm Roger Goodell receiving a $22.3M bonus to bring his 2011 compensation to just under $30M shows how highly owners thought of new CBA

I guess it does not matter who the commissioner is then.In a way yes but he has to be able to preform what they tell him and I think he has done a better then average job in those areas. Like most fans I hate the London games and I hate Monday and Thursday night. He is pretty much forced to change the rules with what we know about concussion and the law suits that are going to continue to come. The one thing I'm really down on the NFL about is that they weren't the first to use blood testing because that is the way you help concussions the most. I would bet if they did that you would a huge reduction in speed and strength across the NFL.

I feel like Goodell's singular mission is to find every dollar he can for his owners even if it's to the detriment of the quality of the games. Things such as: 18 game season expanded playoffs (does ANYBODY want this?)ref lockout last yearThursday games every weekteams overseasI think he knows that as long as fantasy football and gambling are around he won't lose any viewers even if the players are tired, the refs are incompetent, and the regular season is made meaningless. Even the player safety moves are made with money in mind IMO. I realize the goal of any business is to make as much money as possible, but I think it's going to hurt the game.

If you test for blood which is the only way to detect HGH it will lead to suspension as well as players stopping. If players arent doping they aren't as big, fast or strong which cause a majority of concusions. If Baseball which has a much stronger players union can check for HGH the NFL should also.
