Do You Buy Only One Make/Model of Car? (1 Viewer)

I love cars.  I love having different cars.  I trade in every 3-4 years to have something new and different.  Since I've started buying new cars and meeting my wife, I've/we've had a Chevy, Ford, Nissan, Jeep, Dodge, and Honda....with different models of some makes.

The longest I've had a car was an Altima that I had for seven years and was the first car I paid off.  I traded it in for a Ford Fusion and only had it for a year and a half before I just traded it in two weeks ago for a Maxima.  I forgot how much fun a Nissan is to drive.  I may never have anything but a Nissan again.

I know some people have sworn by a make/model of car.  I was never that type of guy, but I may be now.  Just curious as to how others are.

 
No, but I'll probably stick with Honda or Toyota for the foreseeable future.

My in laws all drive Nissan. Largely because they're near a plant (Nashville)

My parents always bought Ford. Because Grandpa worked for Ford.

 
I don't, but may start.  May start going Toyota/Lexus for my cars and possibly upcoming for daughter (soon to be 15). 

I got a great deal from in-laws on a 2013 Avalon with all bells/whistles in 2015 ...$20K/less than 7K miles.  Drives great, nice and heavy ...and fairly quiet.  Wife's dad worked for Chrysler and gets great deals - so she gets a new Grand Cherokee about every 8-10 years.  Nice, but problems seem to start after around 120K miles.  

Daughter - want something reliable and safe, maybe Honda, but need to check on safety vs Toyota models.

Had Jeep, Audi,   Too many times in the garage getting fixed.  Toyota 4-Runner & Highlander for the last 25 years for me & family.   Also Lexus 430 LS for the last 10 yrs for me(good weather car only as rear wheel drive) .  Just can't beat year in year out reliability of Toyota & Honda.

 
My daily driver is a 95 Honda Accord.  I've had it since 97.  Before August of this year, 4 of my kids used it as their daily driver for 5 years, so it's been beat on.   Unbelievably reliable car.

My wife drives a 06 Toyota Sienna, which was bought 6 months old.   It's also been bullet proof.   The kids now drive a mixture of 10 year old  Camrys and Corollas.  No problems with these either.

Only Hondas and Toyotas for me.

 
Have had:

Buick, Chevy (Hand-me-down from parents 80s GM ####box models)

I have purchased 1 of each of the following:

Toyota

Audi (and, never again)

Mazda

Ford

Kia

and, 3 Nissans + an Infiniti (so, arguably 4).   I had no real issues with any of these 4.

One of those Nissans was a Leaf I bought 4.5 years ago.  I can pretty safely say that as my wife and I have 2 cars, moving forward at least one of them will be fully electric.  That currently limits my buy-options, but in another 5 years there will be way more.  

For a gas burner, I'd buy another Nissan or a Kia in a heartbeat.  Also would not think twice about a Hyundai.    I think Hyundai and Kia have out-Japan'd Japanese reliability in the last 10 years. 

 
Nope.  Oldest through current:

Saturn SL2, Ford Probe GT, Toyota Camry, Toyota Avalon, Toyota Camry, Nissan 300ZX, VW Passat, Subaru Outback, Honda Accord, Chevrolet Corvette, Subaru WRX.  

Having said all of this and after going through all this I've decided the following :

Until something changes, I'll probably only ever buy Toyota's for my wife again.  The dealership near me is awesome and the cars are rock solid, unless I get her an Acura, I take our Honda to the Acura dealership, they do a great job.

I love my WRX but I don't see Subaru making WRX's 10 years from now, especially WRX's with stick shifts, I hope I'm wrong.

I love my Corvette, I may get rid of it someday because I hardly drive it and every time I rent a full size pickup, I really lust after those.  I have no idea why, I've never been a pickup truck fan but my God American pickups are damn nice these days.  20+ years ago, a full size truck was "meh" these days, honestly, they are really nice vehicles.

 
Have a ‘05 Accird and a ‘04 Sienna both with over 200k and both run like new. People are amazed at how nice the cars run when they learn the mileage. 

My favorite daily drivers have been Honda/Acura. Bulletproof cars and they feel a little sportier than their Toyota counterparts. 

 
Only buy American. Mostly Ford but we do have a Suburban we will replace with an Expedition in the next year or so. 

 
Had a 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring since 2007. It now has over 200k on it. It is nearing the end, and will be passed on to oldest son to be his commuter car when he gets his license this summer. We will be buying my wife a car for her commute soon, not sure on make/model yet. If van goes too quickly, we may have to get something large to replace it due to our long family trips (5 people in total, sometimes with dog); that we have had much success in using the van.

 
I don’t think I’ve ever even had the same brand more than twice or three times. Never the same model.

I've owned and worked on too many cars than I care to remember. My Subaru Impreza is in a class all it's own. I can buy older ones and get them running well for less than 2 grand usually. Ultra reliable, 28mpg average, fabulous all wheel drive system which is important because I live in the Northeast. When we had that first snowstorm of the season I passed 100's of abandoned vehicles that cost 20 times what I paid for my car. That makes no sense to me.

My Lexus was nice and probably the second best car I owned. But not a fan of the front wheel drive. I'm not opposed to other brands but I will probably always have a Subaru around. They have been ridiculously good to me.

Yeah I’m thinking about the Toyota / Lexus route as well. I have a ford that I hate, wife has a 4 runner that I love and drive all the time. 

The only caveat is I’ve always wanted a Jeep Wrangler where I can pop the doors off since I was old enough to know what cars are. Maybe buy an old one to run around in and carry kayaks and such. 

 
I was mostly an American car mostly Chevy.

After purchasing a Honda for a commuter back in 03 I stick with them for my commuter.

Next SUV for the wife will probably not be chevy

20 yrs ago a truck drove like a truck.  not anymore.

 
I started with a hand-me-down 73 Olds 98-- it was a tank and got 3 gallons to the mile.  I have no idea how I made money delivering pizzas in that.  

84 Chevy Chevette:  Nice car for $4,500 new, but that was when EVERYTHIING was an option.  The glove compartment door was an option.  

Acura RX:  Fun and reliable car

Dodge Stealth:  I had a lot of fun with this car until... kids.  

Lexus LX:  Father-in-law made me a deal I couldn't pass up, and hauling the wife and kid around was a lot easier.  It was interesting going from the Stealth and having all the 20 year old girls going "nice car", to the having the 60 year old men going "nice car".   :sadbanana:

I've been Lexus ever since (and not because I covet the attention of age 60+ old men).

Wife had a Chrysler minivan:  Never again.  80k miles and it turned into a POS.  Went to Honda Oddy and have been happy with the van.

 
No brand loyalty.  In order: Ford Mustang, Chevy truck, Ford Escort (British), Hillman Imp, Land Rover, Austin Mini, Ford truck, Buick Regal, Cadillac El Dorado, Dodge Dakota, Toyota truck, Toyota Celica, Kia Sorento, Dodge Ram.

 
Every few years I flirt with the idea of buying something exotic. I start by lusting after used '80s Ferraris, then it's on to '90s Lotuses, then it's on to newer Maseratis or Alfa Romeos. All within my budget. Then I realize that the maintenance headache just isn't worth it. So I start looking at used (5-10 years old) Mercedes and BMWs. Then I realize that the maintenance headache still isn't worth it. So I start looking at newer Miatas or older Corvettes. And I realize that I haven't hit midlife yet.

Then I buy a used Civic and I put 50,000 miles on it without paying for more than an oil change.

 
Audi or Subaru last 20 years. Had good luck with both.

Next car will be electric.

Hoping my current car will go a couple more years as more come to market.

 
No real brand loyalty, but drive a Corolla for 13 years and not once was it in the shop. Unbelievable reliability with Toyota.

When my Didge Grand Caravan gets really old, I want a full electric so probably a Tesla.

Nowadays?  no clue.  maybe nothing.  

in my 1997 A4?    Even a timschrunchlord length post wouldn't be enough time to get into it.   Short answer is "nearly everything on that car"  Google the VW/Audi 1.8Turbo "engine sludge problem" for the nail in the coffin, but also an endless list of tons of little breaks and annoyances that were always  $500-1000 to fix.   It was a money pit.  without exaggerating,  I bet I spent more money keeping that car on the road that the cumulative total of every other car I've owned.  

They may be great today.  I'll never know own another one to find out.  

 
Needs to be a truck or utility vehicle so it can do more than just drive around*.  Jeep guy. Currently Jeep Wrangler and Toyota Tundra.  

*Work provides a car for my commute. 

 
My last 3 cars were Ford Explorers with my current one , 2013 Explorer Sport being the best one yet.

 
My wife and I have been pretty consistent Nissan/Infiniti drivers for a good 15 years now.  Multiple models but I find Nissans have been a nice mix of reliability, affordability and nice to look at.

 
Used to be a Nissan guy (have probably driven 18+ Datsun/Nissan/Infiniti cars or trucks in my life.)  Now we are Honda (2 CRVs and a Pilot + my Wrangler) people.  Last few Nissans we've had were just slipping in quality - especially interior.

 
Over the last 38 years I have owned eleven cars... all Hondas. Very reliable, never had a major problem with them.

 
Honda Pilot for my wife. I could see staying loyal there. Hyundai Sonata for me. I will look at Hyundai as well for future purchases.

 
Kind of a Ford guy with plenty of other makes in the mix. Posting because there's no better place to report that I turned in a 2012 BMW M5 sobono suggested I buy a couple years ago for a 2017 Ford Raptor. I am in love with this truck. Will be covered with mud tomorrow. 

 
In order but often with more then one at a time.... VW Bug, Pontiac Firebird, Nissan Sentra, Datsun 240z, Ford Escort, Ford Mustang GT, Porsche 911, Honda Ridgine, ‘66 Chevelle 427, Lexus ES330, Audi A6, Lexus ES 350.   Currently in the market for a Tesla Model 3.

Guess I’m not brand or type specific. Lol.

My daily driver is still an '01 Toyota Echo with 300K miles that I bought new.

I wouldn't say I have brand loyalty, as I've only owned 4 vehicles in my 23 years of driving (and 2 of the other 3 were/are a complementary beater van and truck to the Echo). 

But when it's time to move on from the Echo or if I ever get anything new or newish, I have a hard time imagining I'll consider anything besides a Toyota. 

 
Current Garage Datsun 280Z(100k), Ford Fiesta(140k), Chrysler Pacifica940k).  Departed Ford Escape(240k), Nissan Quest(180k), Datsun 280ZX(225k), Mercury Cougar(36k lease), Mazda 626(100k crashed).  Will look at almost any brand today.  The reliability differences are small.

 
No brand loyalty.  I'm currently looking at small trucks, and hope to get into something by the end of 2019.  I'm going to try and wait as long as possible.  The new Ford ranger is coming out, Toyota is unveiling a redesigned Tacoma at the Chicago Auto Show, and the Wrangler truck is coming.  I'm not particularly looking at any of these, but it will be better for the buyer when there are more options.  I also heard the Frontier may be redesigned soon, and there are rumors of a new Dakota.  I assume it will be on the Wrangler truck platform if & when.  The problem right now is all trucks & SUVs are in high demand.

 
Every vehicle I have owned has been a different make/model until the last 2.  I bought a 2007 Honda Pilot about 10 years and then bought a Pilot again last year after I got in an accident with the 07.  Only time I've ever repeated.

 
I used to be a GM only vehicle guy due to family employee discount, but I’ve also had BMW & Jeep in the last few. Last 5 vehicles:

Chevy Blazer ZR2, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevy Trailblazer SS, BMW X5, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (current). 

I’ve liked all these, but need to mix it up every 3-4 years. All these vehicles are black or silver. Hmm. 

 
83 Toyota Supra, 98 Jetta, 02 Murano, 05 Cherokee, 08 Escalade, 10 Volvo S90, 11 4Runner (still have), 13 BMW 335, 16 Accord (my beater).  All of these are/were good to us aside from the Volvo.

Will be buying my wife another 4Runner/Lexus 460 this year or next, and I admit I am super tempted by the new Supra/BMWZ4 coming out this summer.   :drive:

eta - I have driven various Fords provided to me by the companies I worked for.. when new these always compare favorably to anything else, but they seem to start falling apart after a couple years... the interiors in particular don't hold up well.

That's gotta be a record?

 
BMW family since 2000.  That ends this year due to BMW no longer being the "ultimate driving machine".  Manuals are only available on "m" cars and that seems only to placate the dinosaurs like me that think feeling and controlling gear shifts is integral to a true "ultimate driving experience".  Might keep the cars I have and put money into keeping them rolling. 

 
The only make/model I'll never buy again is Honda Accord. Other than that I'm not too particular and tend to stick with cars for a long time (at least 5+ years whenever possible).
