Frankly, I can't wait for the day when we can get a la carte.

Tell us your situation, where you are, and what options you have.

I got it last year with Comcast for free but only in SD.

This year I had to buy the sports tier for $2.99 but now I get it in HD.

I can cancel on a month to month basis and can keep it Nov-Jan only if I like.

I have Comcast in Nashville.

We had it when we lived in Arizona. I'll have it over here as soon as we switch to digital tv. There's a package that has NASN and they broadcast almost all of the NFL Network stuff (Total Access, 1 early game, 1 afternoon game, SNF, MNF and the playoffs/SB)

DirecTV FTW!

Honestly, other than clear sky access, I can't imagine why in the world everyone doesn't get DTV.

It was part of the deal until this year. Then they made it part of their "special sports package", so that I have to get several channels I couldn't care less about to get the NFL network. I held off until about an hour before GB/Dal.

In Florida, a lot of people don't because in the summer time, the lightning storms and super-heavy cloud cover can knock your signal out for extended periods of time.

Three words: On Demand programming. There are hundreds of free movies, repeats of TV episodes, specials, HD content that I can watch whenever I feel like it. I went Satellite for a year and couldn't wait to get back to Comcast for on-demand. The only thing I really miss is having "real" tivo instead of this DVR garbage comcast has on their units.

Well DTV has gotten rid of that. Their new upgrade (and the one coming by month's end) with up 150 HD channels won't work on TiVo brand DVRs. You have to use one of theirs (that they only lease instead of seel) along with a B-Band converter. The new DVRs they offer have some upside over TiVo but plenty of downside as well, chief among them is no slo mo button and less disk space. But bottom line, no more TiVo for DTV customers if you want their full HD package.

just added it last week for $5...Louisiana Comcast has it in the sports tier... I plan on dropping it around February
Lead up to the draft and camp stuff is just as good as regular season games.I could get it with Dtv, but choose not to at this point. I see no reason why my cable company and the nfl can't come to an agreement. At some point I'll make a move, maybe when I move.

hmmm...interesting...I may give it a month or two then...thanks for the info :goodposting:any fantasy shows on there? I flipped through the guide a couple times the past few days, but didn't notice any

Comcast

Had NFLN SD for several years included in my digital package

This past summer it was moved into it's own sports package, so I paid for NFLN SD

Then a few months ago NFLN HD was added as part of that package

I've previously ranted on here about how they took NFLN away from me and then when I called to pay the fee to add the package they actually charged me for "installation"...that's right, a channel I had, that they took away, I had to pay to add it back...fortunately it was pretty cheap, just cheap enough to make it not worth my effort to argue with the guy about it, but enough to piss me off enough to still be complaining about it today...

What you and jerry jones don't seem to understand is that not everyone can afford to get a satellite. And not everyone who can afford it can get one because we live in apartment buildings and aren't allowed to have our own personal dishes.I'm down here in athens, GA and I'm not paying for charter's on demand services and I really don't care about the NFL network. If I see it fine (they show some weekly show down here and on Thanksgiving they showed us that horrible falcons vs colts game) and if I don't see it that's fine with me too.

I had the same thing with Comcast and it was the last straw. I had some other issues with them, but when they pulled off the NFLN and tried to charge me to get it back, it finally got me off my caboose and I switched to DirecTV. Glad I did.Adios, Comcast-holes!

IIRC, there was some fantasy slanted stuff, but I could be confusing it with FSN, when I had NFLN as part of my Adelphia digital package before the fallout. They really go in depth on the draft. I really miss that part. I never had NFLN when they broadcasted games (although I know how NFL games go...lol).

What's the price difference between Cable and DTV again? The startup cost (installation and dish) for DTV is free. I don't think the subscriptions differ in cost very much.I'm not Jerry Jones, but feel free to prove me wrong that DTV cost much more than cable. And again, like I said, if you don't have clear sky access (like in apartment) then I see why you wouldn't get a dish. As for you not being allowed to install one... I thought there were legal issues against landlords preventing you from installing a dish? Or maybe that's just in CA...

I have Armstrong Cable. I get NFLN but not the live games. NFLN and Armstrong have not been able to negotiate an agreement. How ridiculous is that? I can watch NFLN until the games are on, then I get some crappy rerun of some other programming.

I agree that on a monthly basis that satellite isn't any more expensive than cable. As for the installation costs I was under the impression that it definitely ain't free unless you get some kind of sale. Things may be different nowadays I dunno. Also if anything breaks down you have to pay to have it fixed. :lmao:

As far as not being allowed to install one. The building isn't mine so I can't have it put on the roof and having a dish outside on the walkway would be a fire hazard

I've got DirecTV & have had very few problems. Installation was free, though to get it free, I had to say I was going to stay with DTV for a year, basically how the cell phones work (free phone, but you have to sign a contract with us for 1-2 years). I got DTV thru my local phone company (they are competing with Time Warner's Internet/Dig Phone/Cable) & since I have my ASDL thru the phone company, I get $6 off my DTV bill.

I had one of my DTV boxes stop working & once I got to a tech support person, they determined that the box had screwed up when they had sent an update to the box. They sent me a new box in the mail to replace the broken one & had the stickers to send the broken one back in the same box (just had to go to a Fed-Ex drop of location). The only catch to the replacement box was I had to extend my contract for another year, which wasn't a problem for me.

SD via DishNetwork SATTV for 2 years now, should have switched 3 years earlier when I became my own landlord :goodposting:

Regarding pricing, got equipment and install for $50, monthly fee was $35 for 1st year, $45 since then. FWIW - think I was paying $59 or $69 for comcast right before the switch.

Directv will have their version of On Demand shortly. It is in beta, I have been using it and it works fine. The only drawback is that you need a decent internet connection to use it, as that is how the shows are sent to your box.Between that and DVR functions, I feel they have it covered pretty well.

In Milwaukee I get NFL network in HD with AT&T U-Verse cable service, which is IP-based for video and internet services. Basic U-Verse subscription also includes the Big Ten network (which our local cable company doesn't provide) and includes three boxes, wireless network, an extensive on demand library and a DVR. A very good deal right now, but a brand new product that has a few kinks.
