Do you/can you sleep late? (1 Viewer)

I slept till 7:00, got up and went to cut the grass
Neighbors OK with that?

Used to have a neighbor that liked to have loud parties until 4 AM.  I would try to be out mowing the lawn by 8 those mornings.  Always got the stink eye.

Played poker on Friday night, went to bed right before 3, got up at noon.  Normal wake up time is 8.15, get to work around 9.  Weekends I am never up before 9.  So yea I can sleep in like a teenager still.

I get up at 6:30 for work.

In my 30's, I would wake up by 7:00 on weekends because I wanted to maximize my day. Over time, I began to appreciate sleeping in.

I'm 48 now and have been waking up between 9-11 unless I have something planned. I've definitely cut back on weekend plans over the years so I can sleep more. There's nothing I'd rather be doing for the most part.

I am 56 and have never slept in, or at least not that I recall.

Weekdays I am up everyday between 4:30am and 5:30am.

Weekends I stay up a bit later so I might get up at 7am on Saturday. Depending on which team I am on that week, volunteer call on Sundays is either 5:45am or 7:15 - so roughly the same as every other day.

I sleep, on average, 5-6 hours per weeknight, going to sleep between 10 and 11pm. If I go to bed any earlier I am up at 3-3:30am. Maybe 3-4 times a month I sleep 8 hours, but I cannot remember the last time I slept 9 or more. Except in self-imposed sleep deprivation situations, I don't think I have ever slept 10-12 hours. I've had significant others who love sleep and look forward to days when they can sleep until noon. Both my kids love the rare day when nothing is on the calendar and they can sleep in until 10 or 11am. I have no personal experience what that is like. When I wake up I never try to go back to sleep unless it's a middle of the night bathroom break (WORST thing about middle age.) If I stay in bed "relaxing", my mind starts racing and I become anxious.

I love mornings. I don't really like conversations early in the morning, but it is by far the most productive time of the day, has the least distractions and interruptions. Virtually every day I look forward to finishing my morning bathroom routine + commute so I can start getting stuff done.

Yeah.  Our neighbors are great.  To be fair, I wouldn't usually do it that early, but my wife goes to the gym with the closest neighbor's wife so I knew she was up to go to the class with her.  The husband goes out for a run ~6:30-7:00 every day.  He actually thanked me as his kids were pseudo-camping in the back yard and my mowing kept them from sleeping till noon.

To be fair, we've got decent lots - 2+ acres, so it's not like I'm right on top of them.

I can sleep in about an hour past my "normal" time, then my bladder wakes me up.  But, I can often fall right back to sleep and stay that way for hours after that.

Alarm at 5:00, snooze button twice until 5:20 religiously, hate it.  Non work days we all role out of bed when we feel like it around 8:30.

Bed time is 10:30 or 11:00 pm.  Wife goes to sleep an hour or so earlier than me.

I'm in my mid-40s.  Life has slowed down as our daughter is in college.  I get up at 6:15 on weekdays, if not before.  Weekends and days off I'm always up by 7 at the latest.  My wife sleeps in, so I use the extra morning time to play video games or read.

Oh, if it matters I go to sleep between 930-1030, later if we've been out doing something.  No matter how late I'm out tho, I'm up by 7.

My problem over the last few years is that I have trouble going back to sleep.  I fall asleep great and can 'shut down' the mind at night and go to sleep.  However, when I wake up in the morning my mind immediately starts racing w/ all I have to accomplish that day, whether work or personal.

My wife is the exact opposite.  She can't shut the mind down at night and sometimes is up very late (usually reading) because she can't sleep, but then sleeps in when she can to make up for it.

I can't and my wife can.  So frustrating.
I'm up at 7am on weekdays.  I'll sometimes wake up much earlier but can usually drift back to sleep but it's bad sleep.

On weekends it's 8ish.  We have an 8 and 6 year old so they need attention in the morning.

I used to be able to sleep in much, much later.  There'll be the occasional weekend morning where I "sleep in" past 8ish.

My wife, though, can sleep until 11am or later sometimes.  She is a night owl and works 3-4 nights a week on top of it.

I can sleep till noon, take a nap at 4:00 and go to bed at 9:30-10:00.
Honestly, this sounds horrible. Maybe it is because I'm older, but I can't imagine wasting that much of my life sleeping. Obviously if this is due to a medical condition, than that's different. But even then, it would depress me.

I think this is an issue associated with age.  I'm out of bed by 5:30 every morning during the week to get ready for work.  On the weekends when I have nothing to do I wouldn't mind sleeping in a little, but I'm usually wide awake by 5:30.

I was at a graduation party last night until midnight.  My daughter and I messed around with guitars when we go home until about 1:00 AM.  I had quite of few beers at the party.  I was awake this morning by 5:30 AM.     I think the last time I made it until 6:30-7:00 was when I was out until 2:30-3:00.

I understand if you have little ones at home, but my kids are both adults and out of the house.

Anyone else have problems sleeping in?
i used to be that way, but in the last few years it has changed for me. i sleep in whenever possible.

Im 36 ... strange what a year can do, but when I was 35 I could sleep in as long as I wanted. Sure - I will wake up at the “normal” time, but still be able to fall right back asleep once I realized it wasn’t a week day.

Now? No chance. This year, I’m calling it the year of “no sleeps”

doesnt matter what day it is, I wake up at 7am

 pretty sure getting older sucks

Been getting up at 5:30 am and being in bed by 9:30 pm every day for years. I now try to snag a quick nap from time to time.

Is it age or anxiety?  I am rarely able to fall back asleep after the sun is up and I have no commitments.  But there are many things I should be doing.

Cannot sleep in anymore.  On a normal, no stress day, I usually wake up before my alarm (which is set for 7 am) by around 6:30.

On a high stress day, I usually wake up around 2 or 3 am, instantly start thinking about work the next day, and cannot fall back asleep.  I'll go downstairs and watch some TV, and try to fall asleep, which usually happens around 6:59.

On the weekends I am up before 7, and use the morning to play video games before the rest of the house is up and I have to do something productive.

I've been on a CPAP for 18 months or so, and still the same. The only thing that seemed to help my energy level was when I doing Keto. And when I was on a steroid pack for an inflamed rotator cuff.  Which ironically, I think I hurt while sleeping,

The rare times we dont have morning events on non work days (currently sitting in a car waiting for rain to stop at track meet one of two for the day) I will usually sleep til 8 or so. Drives my wife nuts. And me 10 years ago is screaming HOW IS 8 SLEEPING IN
**IMPORTANT UPDATE** - this no longer drives my wife nuts. The pandemic helped, but the kids are now at an age that they leave her alone until after she gets out of bed each morning. I'm usually asleep sometime in the 11's and rarely wake up before 7:30-8.

Are you me?  My alarm is set for 645 during the week, haven't slept that late in a long time.  My stress wake up is usually a little later, around 4am.  I make myself try to sleep until 6am no matter what.

Weekend mornings are my best gaming time.  Always playing before 7am.  Wife sleeps until 9-10 on weekends (empty nesters), so it's my best gaming time of the week.

Absolutely. I typically stay up until 2-3 am, and wake up at 9 or 10. But I'm a fitful sleeper, and wake up 2-3 times during that period.

I don't seem to be able to sleep much past 7am anymore. Really sucks if I stay up late (past midnight basically), as I'm pretty useless the next day.

On an off day, I am a 7-8 guy as well. Whether I went to bed at 10 or 1, doesn’t matter. However, I have noticed on the few occasions I fall asleep on the couch in my basement and don’t move back up to bed, I sometimes sleep until 9 or 10. I think it being totally dark helps a lot.

I more or less sleep 7 hours. So if I go to bed early, I'm up early. I can't seem to sleep in past that much. Idk when it happened but I'm in my 20s so I don't think its an old age thing.

I have a similar situation. I'm 45.

It's not so much about the exact time I wake up... it's the length of sleep. On super rare totally awesome occasions I can get close to 9 hours, but typically I clock in around 7. If I make bad life decisions (beer) and stay up really late, I'm probably looking at a low-quality 6 hours.

Thankfully I've been really cutting back lately and usually going to bed at a decent time.

Weighted blanket has done wonders for me.
Step daughter got me one after I got one for her at Christmas, since she liked it so well.  I will try it again in the fall/winter, but I don't like to run the AC enough to keep it "cold" so it was a little warm for me in the summer.

up between 6:30 - 7 during the week. no alarm.

Friday/Saturday i usually have a few beers and still wake up around the same time but force myself to go back to sleep and usually can hang on until 8:30 - 9.

that said, if i wanted to take a nap right now i'd be out in 5 minutes and could sleep for 3-4 hours at the drop of a hat.

I work overnights, so I usually sleep from between 5 and 6am am til noon. I never sleep past that, but sometimes Ill wake up around 11am. Weekends Ill sleep from around 3am til about 10am.

Yes, for summer they can get warm. Gotta maintain a lower than average temperature. But if I zero in on that they really do work.
