I didn't know anything about this either. And I'm a regular visitor to espn.com.I don't follow women's basketball, but I know two things. Uconn is really good, and Baylor has a man playing for them. The "streak" has been headlined on espn.com several times this season.![]()

I know UCONN is good....didn't know about the streak. I rarely watch espn anymore except for football games and hardly ever go to that trainwreck of a page at espn.com.....gives me a headache. I spent 20 minutes looking for a stat on their pages and ran across this. This guy has always been a toolbox IMO. He thinks way more of what he is doing than anyone else, always has. There's really no reason to compare what he's doing to what UCLA did....it's silly and ESPN is shameless.I don't follow women's basketball, but I know two things. Are you saying there aren't numerous teams and coaches doing their best to beat his team game in and game out?Winning streaks are winning streaks and as long as there is a level playing field, then it is a heck of a feat. Now if you want to talk about stats, that I'd agree isn't comparable, but wins and records are legitimate comparisons.I know UCONN is good....didn't know about the streak. No, I am saying that streaks aren't "broken" cross gender/sport. Men's bball has it's streak, women's bball has it's streak. Has nothing to do with whether people are trying to beat this team or not...not sure where you are trying to go with that. We wouldn't compare a "starting streak" in the CFL with what Brett Favre did in the NFL either. Are you saying there aren't numerous teams and coaches doing their best to beat his team game in and game out?Winning streaks are winning streaks and as long as there is a level playing field, then it is a heck of a feat. I think its a pretty big deal. Nobody is saying they could compete with a mens team - but winning 88 consecutive games is a pretty big deal in any sport.I know they typically play the top ranked teams in out-of-conference play, so its not like they are racking up wins playing a bunch of bad teams. Uconn is to women's basketball, what UCLA was to men's basketball 40 years ago.
What do you think the point of comparing it to the UCLA streak is then? I am not poo pooing the accomplishment, just find the comparison laughable. If it's such a big deal, it should be able to stand on it's own and not be compared to anything else IMO.I think its a pretty big deal. Hate is a little much, but still"All the women are happy as hell and they can't wait to come in here and ask questions. All the guys that loved women's basketball are all excited, and all the miserable bastards that follow men's basketball and don't want us to break the record are all here because they're pissed," Auriemma said. "That's just the way it is."I've always thought this guy was complete #######. I saw a special on some girl, one of the best recruits in a long time, who was suppose to play for him and she decided to stop playing b-ball because she was burned out. He said some harsh things about her.I hate this arrogant POS.
I find it funny he left out the "and there is a group of guys who probably don't even know what we are doing" group....I suspect that's the largest group. However, I will disagree with him on WHY the hate is out there. Isn't because of what they are doing on the court, it's because of the coach and his attitude. Just one example here that GT has posted. There are many more."All the women are happy as hell and they can't wait to come in here and ask questions. My guess is that if a CFL QB had 297 consecutive starts it would get the same press that the Uconn women are getting. This is a bottom of the fold story - albeit on the front page. The streak is as long as UCLA's. Assuming they win their next game, they will have the longest winning streak in NCAA basketball history.UCLA will still have the longest streak in NCAA men's basketball history. You can still debate which is a more impressive feat, but facts are facts. No, I am saying that streaks aren't "broken" cross gender/sport. but no one really cares much
Were you aware that Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is one of the best cricket players ever?
Tendulkar is the highest run scorer in both Test matches and ODIs, and also the batsman with the most centuries in either form of the game. On October 17, 2008, when he surpassed Brian Lara's record for the most runs scored in Test Cricket, he also became the first batsman to score 12,000 runs in that form of the game, having also been the third batsman and first Indian to pass 11,000 runs in Test cricket. He was also the first player to score 10,000 runs in one-day internationals, and also the first player to cross every subsequent 1000-run mark that has been crossed in ODI cricket history.
Quite a feat, I assume, yet none of us know crap about him, so take it for what it is worth.
Til now....it's never been "NCAA basketball history". They've always differentiated between men/women. Why the change for this? Seems silly to me.My guess is that if a CFL QB had 297 consecutive starts it would get the same press that the Uconn women are getting. This is a bottom of the fold story - albeit on the front page. I have a really good friend who coaches girls HS bball. He is always watching men's college games....never watches the women. I'm sure he knows about the UCONN streak and would go to any clinic he could get to, but he's never once discussed anything with me about women's NCAA basketball.I don't know one person who follows women's basketball. I even know a guy at work who follows lacrosse but I've never seen anyone excited to see the chicks play hoops.

What is the change? If Uconn wins another game, they will have a longer streak than UCLA. What am I missing? If a guy in AA ball has a 57-game hit streak, he will have the longest hit streak in professional baseball. It will be longer than DiMaggio's, and you can debate the difficulty, and DiMaggio will still own the MLB record. Not sure what is so difficult here. UCLA will still own the longest win streak in mens basketball - that does not go away. Uconn will simply extend their record win streak in women's basketball beyond UCLAs.Til now....it's never been "NCAA basketball history". They've always differentiated between men/women. if not for the constitution your freedom to post on this board might not exist! If not for Title IX women's college bball might not even exist. When it takes legislation just for your sport to even exist it's pretty obvious the sport is inconsequential.
The change is, all of a sudden, it's "NCAA Basketball History". Up til now, it's been "NCAA Men's/Women's Basketball History" depending on topic and league being discussed. What is the change? The UNC women's soccer team won 92 straight in the early 90s. As the streak approached 88, some proponents tried to compare it to the UCLA men's basketball streak. That effort was met with similar resistance. If anything, it got more prejudice against it because it was soccer. No, I am saying that streaks aren't "broken" cross gender/sport. RIFAnd I am pretty sure the Uconn women are not being credited with the longest winning streak in Mens NCAA basketball - simply that their winning streak is as long as UCLA's.The change is, all of a sudden, it's "NCAA Basketball History". Uconn will simply extend their record win streak in women's basketball beyond UCLAs.Not sure if you are fishing at this point or not, but you couldn't be more wrong about the baseball. Stats are kept at each level and never would a AA player be credited for "longest hit streak in MLB".
It means far less though. And I am pretty sure the Uconn women are not being credited with the longest winning streak in Mens NCAA basketball - simply that their winning streak is as long as UCLA's.
We used to play this game so much that I didn't even know that the system was called Sega Genesis. We just called it "hockey." I never owned any other game for it.I'll be impressed when the UConn women's team is able to beat my 121 consecutive game win streak playing '94 NHL Hockey on Sega Genesis.
You mean the team that has two players that would probably have gone straight to the NBA if there was no longer that rule? Yeah, UConn women wouldn't be within 20 points at the end of that one.Could the UCONN women beat Oak Hill Academy?
its being subsidized and I think it may be in serious trouble once the labor talks come to a head in the NBAI just looked it up, and there's still a WNBA. How has that happened? It can't possibly make money, can it?
Okay. Do you think that they could beat the state 4A champs of Arizona? You mean the team that has two players that would probably have gone straight to the NBA if there was no longer that rule? Yeah, UConn women wouldn't be within 20 points at the end of that one.Could the UCONN women beat Oak Hill Academy?
Right....that was dumb too. Because it's the same sport doesn't make it any less dumb. The UNC women's soccer team won 92 straight in the early 90s.
