Do you have a fantasy blind spot? (1 Viewer)

I was reading the thread about Washington RBs and it dawned on me that I've paid very little attention (respect?) to the Skins. In fact, I can't remember the last Redskin on any of my rosters! The more I thought about, I haven't had a Dolphin either since the Marino era (although I've had their defense a couple times). I'm not sure what caused this blind spot... I like both teams and I'm sure I've considered players over the years but dismissed them in favor of someone else. Maybe its a lack of confidence in both programs.

I imagine many people overvalue players from their favorite teams and undervalue players from their rivals. This seems natural enough. But, are there teams you simply avoid (consciously or not)?

Yep, I've been a Bears fan for 35 years and a fantasy football owner for 22, never had a Packer on my team. I know it's stubborn, but I would rather lose every fantasy football game than ever root for a Packer, no matter what.

No Redskins. Partly because of my Philly affiliation. Partly because their players usually aren't very good...

I had Priest Holmes on my roster for the best part of his career. Being an Oakland fan it used to kill me (although i dont remember them winning many game against Oakland at that time. Still remember that 4th down Larry Johnson game though) I have not and will not have another Chief on my team.

So far... it's all about dislike. As a fan, FF has made me appreciate many more teams league wide. But it definitely creates a conflict of interest when your team plays against someone on your fantasy roster.I don't dislike the Redskins; this was not a conscious omission. They were just off my radar and it surprised me because I try to keep up with things. Looking at my rosters, I noticed something else - the vast majority of my players are from successful teams. I know I target players from high scoring offenses but maybe something subliminal is happening here...

I pretty much never seem to end up with players from Seattle, Miami, couple other places. No reason. Just happens sometimes

Don't confuse "stupidity" with "blind spot."To the topic, I don't think I've had a Cleveland WR on my team since Webster Slaughter. Other than Braylon Edwards in '07, that position has largely been a fantasy wasteland.

Browns players have been undraftable since they came back into the league. Pretty much every player on that team has been a bust.

The only good player they had was Hillis and he wasn't even suppose to start for them. Then the Browns quickly traded Hillis away.

yes, I would rather be stupid than ever root for a Packer.

I've been pondering this question for a while myself, although I don't think I've completely disregarded any team, I definitely have strayed away from a few.

Only Dolphins I can remember having - Ronnie Brown and Marshall two years ago.

Redskins - Portis once and Moss twice

Browns - Hillis last year, and he probably killed the chances of me drafting any Brown ever again

Detroit - cant remember ever having a Lion, not by choice, just weird coincidence

Fair enough. To me, when cold hard cash is on the line, I would have a team full of Chargers, Broncos and Chiefs if it meant winning the league.

I remember saying the same thing about the New Orleans Saints.... things can change (well, maybe not for the Brownies)... but that is kind of the point... what am I missing by largely dismissing a team?

I suppose if my livelihood depended on fantasy football then I would have to reconsider. The leagues I play in these days are small potatoes. But, I was a Bears fan long before a fantasy football owner and have 10x as much invested in Bears gear and memorabilia. So, if we are making a decision based on cash, the anti-Packer sentiment still holds true.

It's like Sonny told a young colojero in Brox Tale: "You shouldn't care about Mickey Mantle, because Mickey Mantle doesn't care about you." I am a die hard NYG fan since I was a little boy. But for fantasy football I am totally agnostic. I will draft any player...a redskin, a cowboy, an eagle, a niner...if I feel they will help me win. and when they play the giants I root for the giants to win the game but for my player to cruh it against them in the process.

Ever since the days of Terell Davis I've owned a few Shanahan coached RBs. Never again. The same can be said for Bill Belichick.

If you want to win, you can't afford to ignore any team especially in competitive leagues. Every team- all 32- have viable, rosterable players for your fantasy teams.

But, one could argue 'blind spots' are part of the fun, too- part of being an NFL fan.

No Jags offensive players.
Don't like yourself some MJD?He has been pretty consistent over the past 4-5 years. One of the more reliable RB's.I can't say I've avoided any teams intentionally, big time KC fan, but my of my favorite WR's is currently Denarius Moore.

MJD is the perfect example of a team-induced blindspot. Last year I drafted Mendenhall over MJD because the Steelers have a better offense. I know that MJD is the more talented back and has been a model of consistency. I've even seen him play and been blown away by his abilities. But I couldn't bring myself to own a Jaguar.Obviously I paid the price.

Lifer Steeler fan here with dynasty roster includes: A.J. Green, Trent Richardson, Flacco, Josh Gordon, and Tommy Streeter. Don't mix up heart with head.

My rules are simple "You play to win the game!"

But I do avoid jets at most costs.

I avoid players except late in the draft on really bad teams.

I also feel it helps to draft guys (if they are rated about the same) on big market TV teams or teams playing on Monday/Sunday night. This makes fantasy football alot more fun too.

Same here. Steelers fan who fell in love with Ray Rice before the draft. A little butt-hurt when Baltimore drafted him, but I wasn't going to pass him up. Now I root for the Steelers to win and Rice to have 200 combined yards against them. Until last year, Flacco always made that possible.

Especially the Packers. Fantasy juggernaut for 2 decades now. Jeebus.
