Do You Pay For Baseball Information? (1 Viewer)

Basic question, do you pay for baseball information in any form, be it news, analysis, prospects, fantasy, etc..? If you do, is it worth it, do you recommend it?

I have a subscription for The Athletic because they hired basically all the best Toronto Blue Jays writers (beyond baseball, they are very strong for Toronto in general, it is their largest subscriber base right now). I support a Blue Jays podcast through Patreon because the guys who do it are good dudes. I think that's it right now.

I've paid for fantasy apps/sites in the past but not the past couple years.

I feel like for the amount of times I visit Fangraphs (often several daily), I should support them for their small yearly amount and I may go do that right now.

What about Baseball Prospectus/America, I would think they would be a pretty good value but likely only need one?  ESPN Insider? I like Keith Law but I'd basically be paying just for him.

I ask because more and more subscription sites keep popping up and I think that people doing this work deserve to be paid/supported, but there's only so much $$$ to go around.

Any other apps I may not be aware of?  I guess MLB.tv could fall under this discussion as well.

I eventually felt guilted into doing this. Most sites turn me off when they ask for money, but every time the "Thank you for frequently visiting Fangraphs" message popped up, I felt like I really should give them something.

I also pay $10 a year for Mike Podhorzer's projections. I know there's lots of projections available for free online but I like having one nerd I can trust. If you've ever read any of Podhorzer's analysis on Fangraphs, you know he's extremely thorough.

I pay for Baseball Prospectus, BaseballHQ and the Athletic.  Have paid for Fangraphs in the past, may do so again this year.  We'll see.  I also subscribe to Joe Sheehan's newsletter.

ETA:  If we're including TV stuff, I have MLB Extra Innings on DirecTv (with mlb.tv included).

I just subscribed to The Athletic as well. Mainly for Chicago.

I got in while they had a discounted rate. Subscribed for a year.

I have never paid for anything more though, and doubt I ever will.

For ESPN Insider access, monitor SlickDeals and grab one of the $4/year deals for ESPN: The Magazine - each sub comes with a subscription to ESPN Insider.  Toss mag.  Set calendar reminder to cancel after baseball season.  Rinse, repeat during the offseason.

I paid for prospectus last year and their fantasy info was ridiculously bad. And some of it was hidden behind another paywall I had to pay more for. Never again. I’ll just take my 10th place drubbing and move on.
