Dodd's DEF projections held undue powers of persuasion over me (1 Viewer)

OK, I can understand nudging Denver's DEF up a little this week playing the Raiders at home, but how do you make them a top 5 DEF play for the week? I got the VIKS on my bench with 26 and the Bills with 15. I start Denver because I was in a must win situation and I get -4. Granted, I was stupid for starting Denver's DEF and it's my own fault, but when you are staring at them as the 3rd best DEF in your scoring system according to Lineup Dominator, it's hard to ignore.

Look at what most defenses have done against them. This isn't indicative of Dodd's inability to predict but rather just how bad Denver is. They are a truly bad team. Has there ever been a team that has gone from such an offensive powerhouse to nearly bottom in the league?

Quoted for the truth.

Who is the coach? You or him. You failed at coaching. That is why you lost.

Denver's defense sucks. The only reason they were highly rated this week was because "Defense That Plays Oakland" usually does well when Oakland implodes. Oakland didn't implode. You guessed wrong.

I ACCEPT everything you guys are saying and dishing out. That's what I get for posting whilst the pain is fresh.

But somebody tell me the logic of DENVER's DEF being ranked as a top five DEF EVER?

I am finding CBS just as accurate in player rankings this year and that is my other concern. Why pay twice for inferior projections?

Denver has been God-awful all season. You inexplicably have them as one of your 3 defenses, you decide to start them, and you're pointing fingers at others? With all due respect, you deserved to lose.

You agreed with Dodds enough before the game to start em! Don't whine now.<--- coming from a guy that benched Min's Def (26 points) for Denver's (-1 point) and it may cost me a playoff spot as well.If you wanted Dodds to make all your decisions for ya, why even play the game?

I played em. Oakland happened to have their best game of the year... by FAR. Oakland got great field position several times from what it looked like on the scoreboard I was watching. Whatcha gonna do?

If you started them you must have thought they were your best option too, right?

Who is the more foolish: the fool or the fool who follows him? That's for you to chew on.

I see I have found the thread where everyone scrambles to defend the FBG ratings, whether they were poor or not.

Marvin - Instead of blaming FBGs, ask them for your money back. They'll refund you.

How could you trot out the wretched Broncos against anyone. I don't care where they are at on a cheatsheet. If you have watched them at any point this year you KNOW they SUCK!!!!! Awful coaching move on your part, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I've noticed that the projections tend to dismiss matchups. For example, Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, and Detroit allow the most fantasy points vs. WRs. So I would expect to see bumps in the rankings for guys like Moss, Randle-El, Holt, Owens, Crayton, Hilliard, etc. But the rankings didn't reflect that.

Yet all the guys I listed ended up having pretty good games. I'm starting to wonder if I could make better cheatsheets just by playing the matchups.

By starting the Denver D, you made it clear that you know the answer to this question. If you hadn't seen the logic in the ranking, you'd have ignored it.

I agree with this to some extent, but the better argument through the thread is that I am an idiot who gets what he deserves if I have to depend on someone else's rankings.

Or just title it 'feeding frenzy' since it seems to be a thread where everyone comes to try out their best witty replies. Though many threads on here could be called that. Maybe that's the true reason it's called the "shark pool." Soon as someone finds an easy target to attack, suddenly many others swarm to the thread trying to one-up the other, just like sharks smelling blood and swarming on a tasty whale.

Seriously.. 31 members reading this thread right now?

you're remark says it all..and to ice the Cake here..

if you're putting any stock in ANYTHING this guy (Dodd) says then you're learning a very hard lesson..

hopefully in the future you're not one to make the same mistake twice..

:goodposting: People still think these guys are any better at predicting the results than my wife who knows nothing at all about football.

ahem: Seattle

Dodds is just providing advice.

It's your fault for making the start. Bottomline.

And no you shouldn't ask or receive a refund. There are no guarantees in fantasy football. You got an expert's opinion. Just because the opinion was wrong doesn't mean you didn't get your moneys worth.

Use the opinion as a factor as all opinions should be. After that the responsibility falls solely on the owner's shoulders.

And really I wouldn't have started Denver if the tanned Mike Shanahan himself told me to.

This is very true this year. IMHO this has been a very bad year for FBG projections.

FWIW, I never look at the weekly projections. No disrespect to Dodds and Norton, but I have found in the past that more often than not I end up pissed off because a) I change my lineup due to the projections and it bites me in the ###, or b) I ignore the projections and it bites me in the a**. I prefer to win or lose because of my own instinct. It's more fulfilling and less aggravating.

I love morons who make these statements.I pay because I have no time to make my own spreadsheets. I own a business and work a fulltime job.

THAT'S why you pay, so you don't have to sit down for hours each week and do the work. A lot of people have very busy lives and pay the fee and expect good results. This year has been a bad year for FBG projections.

If I buy a radio I expect it to work, not have to tinker with it for hours at a time to get it to work.

Again, I accept any and all criticism here for my original post. But does anyone want to opine as to what Dodds might have been thinking?

I started Carolina (consensus top 10, drafted them SPECIFICALLY because of two matchups with a rookie QB) and they were even WORSE. Traded the NYG D at the deadline last week because there was a big profit in it and their schedule was gonna get tougher, and they were sucky too.Team D's are a bit of a crapshoot, to say the least. But :pickle: maybe you can get an extra 6 weeks on your subscription because one of the LEGION of staff steered you wrong?
