I tend to agree with this. I only hope that maybe he decides he wants to honor his contract and coach next year (he's that kind of guy) and he might not want to go out with an 8-8 season. I think he's most likely done in Pittsburgh, though. His wife and daughter are already living in Carolina. I don't think this is a financial decision as much as it is a family decision. That said, I don't think his coaching days are over by any means.... they just won't be in Black and Gold again.
I tend to think he can be at peace with 8-8 knowing that they played tough down the stretch. 6-10, I don't think he could walk away. .500, probably not how he wanted to go out, but nothing to be ashamed about either.I tend to agree with this. I know this seems to be a consideration (living in Carolina), but what happens in a couple years when he gets the itch to coach again? Is he going to just wait for the Panthers job to open up? This problem won't go away and I'm not sure another franchise will be willing to offer him mucho dollars if his 'home' is so far away.brewer said:His wife and daughter are already living in Carolina. I live in Pittsburgh and I love it, but it isn't for everyone. The issue may not be that she really really wants to live in Carolina, but that she really doesn't want to live in Pittsburgh anymore.I know this seems to be a consideration (living in Carolina), but what happens in a couple years when he gets the itch to coach again? One thing that will happen is his youngest daughter will graduate from high school and go off to college. Maybe that would make he & his wife more inclined to move elsewhere again.I know this seems to be a consideration (living in Carolina), but what happens in a couple years when he gets the itch to coach again? If it was a lock, Cowher would have told Rooney yesterday. I think given the right contract, he might stay on beyond 2007.It is a lock that Cowher resigns. It will be on Monday or Tuesday when he returns to PIT.
Not to bad of a flight from Miami to Carolina!I live in Pittsburgh and I love it, but it isn't for everyone. The issue may not be that she really really wants to live in Carolina, but that she really doesn't want to live in Pittsburgh anymore.I know this seems to be a consideration (living in Carolina), but what happens in a couple years when he gets the itch to coach again? Not unless he's traded... which won't happen. He's still under contract with Pittsburgh in 2007. He can choose to not coach in 2007, but I don't think the Steelers will allow him to coach elsewhere in the NFL until 2008.I think he goes...definitely.Where he goes is the question...I'm leaning towards and hoping Miami.
I agree with this but the Rooney's aren't going to pay what BC could get from other teams. Cowher has got to decide whether a couple million more per season is worth leaving the Steelers. It is a tough choice but I wish he would make it already. If it was a lock, Cowher would have told Rooney yesterday. The one thing that struck me yesterday was Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga's statement that “I don’t care what it takes, what it costs, what’s involved, we’re going to make this a winning franchise". I wonder if Huizenga would work out some form of compensation with the Steelers and bring Cowher to Miami.Miami would be a nice fit for Cowher, especially considering that DC Dom Capers and OC Mike Mularkey are both former coordinators of Cowher's. I know it is farfetched and I don't want it to happen but it would make sense from the Dolphins point-of-view and really from the Steelers too; getting something for Cowher instead of nothing. I'm not sure if Cowher would be interested though. Not unless he's traded... which won't happen. He's still under contract with Pittsburgh in 2007.
