Does Dallas Get out of Their Funk This Week.....? (1 Viewer)

I think Dallas plays well this week and beats Houston. I think the run game will return and open up their passing game. Thoughts?

I think Barber will get more action. They'll try and be more physical, controlling the clock to keep Schaub & Co off the field.

0-3 Houston is for real. All they need is to believe that. Cowboys don't know what to believe anymore. Super Bowl favorites...hmmm. If they miss the playoffs what will Jerry do?

Houston is weak against the pass. I think Romo throws for 3tds and 350 yards....to win a high scoring ugly game.

Witten.

That's how... get the damn guy involved. He moves the chains, makes great catches, can get you TD's....

GET WITTEN INVOLVED.

I see Houston in a high scoring game and Mario Williams will feast on Romo all day. Austin goes off but Dallas' reluctance to run the ball will be their downfall (again)....

I think if Peyton Manning & Co. can't win on the arm of their QB I doubt Dallas will.

Dallas can win by exploiting Butler, who's filling in for Duane Brown while he's suspended.

Funk? What makes you think it's a funk? How about Dallas is a bad team?
This would mean something if you said it before the season started, a bad team? Even the Dallas fans knew we were starting the season on the wrong foot with 2 of our starting lineman out.We absolutely dominated Washington but made 100 mistakes to lose that game in Washington. Now people think Washington is good because they're 1-1. They couldn't even move the ball hardly against Dallas, the only way they scored was on a Dallas gift in the 2nd quarter.Washington stinks and Washington should have beat Houston last week. Dallas goes into Houston and beats them in a must win.

Agree with this. Out of the "funk" maybe but still coming up short this week.

That Dallas gift was a gift from the coaches, and thus the big problem in Dallas the coaching there is horrid.

Dallas had a must win situation last week at home. They just suck.
There is no situation where you are 0-1 that is a MUST WIN situation, just a FYI. Even at 0-2, this week isn't a MUST win situation, although every fan and analyst will make it out to be.I didn't see you post anywhere before the season started that they suck. You go ahead and jump on the pile with the rest of the sheep and be that guy.

Dallas' chances are greatly helped by the news Antonio Smith fell ill yesterday and is now questionable. If he's out, the Texans lose a stout run defender as well as being without 2 of their best 3 pass rushers. Which may be enough they can run away from Mario's side, and can double up Mario more effectively and give Romo more time to throw. Texans might need a big day out of their backup linemen and Okoye.

OK, this is coming from a Cowboys fan living in Houston, so I have a unique perspective.

I think Dallas will come out playing much better than in their two previous games. They are not a bad football team, they are extremely talented in fact, but have suffered from a poor offensive line and, as typical, all the internal strife that always goes along with the Cowboys.

That being said, if the records were reversed, and the texans were 0-2 and the cowboys were 2-0 I think the cowboys would still have a hard time winning in that building today. Unless you live in Houston, it is hard for you to understand the level of hate Houstonians have for Dallas in general and particularly the Cowboys. People in Dallas don't get it b/c they don't feel that way for Houston, but there is a really strong level of penis envy here in Houston for the Cowboys and all of their success compared to the barren wasteland that is Houston professional football.

So, put it all together, I think Dallas will play well, but Houston is the better team and is playing at home in an almost impossible environment for the Cowboys. As much as I would like to see the Cowboys win I don't think they can overcome all of those obstacles today.

I didn't know this, that certainly helps the Cowboys' cause. What I really think Dallas should try and gleam from this game is to ask the Texans about their, *ahem*, training program and maybe see if they can get on the same program that the Texans have seemed to implement so well.

Tim, I agree with you about those intangibles. I will say this, Dallas being 0-2 and not 2-0 helps them this game for the reasons you mentioned. They have to be focused, they can't afford (like if they were 2-0 patting themselves on the back) not to play like this is life or death. The other thing I can say is do the Houston players feel the same way as the fans? Is a guy you just brought in from Vermont or Utah have the same feelings as these crazy Houston fans you're talking about? I know the crowd will be amped, I can only assume the Cowboys know what they're in for as playing in Minnesota in the playoffs was also an extremely difficult task.A huge key for the Cowboys will be to take the lead early and be able to run the football. Keep the crowd out of it as much as possible. That is a huge task for the Cowboys but one they need to do if they want to win.

No, the reaction Tim is talking about is the fans. To the players it is just another game. The media has indicated that and you can hear it from the players when they talk about it.Houston fans hate the city of Dallas, period. The Cowboys got loudly booed for winning the coin toss in a preseason game. Whatever the Texans players feel, it's just out of wanting to do well for the fans.

I'd actually say the game means more to Dallas players than it does Texans players in terms of Texas rivalry. Just look at comments from guys like Michael Irvin and Darren Woodson (who was on the cover of Sports Illustrated for their first meeting saying Dallas must win that game). When it comes to the players, the Cowboys are more worried about losing the top dog spot in Texas than the Texans are worried about taking it.

Cowboys will win today. They are such an overrated team though. If I were a Cowboy fan it would really drive me crazy seeing Phillips on the sidelines. He always looks like he just lost his wallet.

I don't like being a hater but it has been pretty funny watching the Cowboy homers in my office mope around like their dog died this season.

Yeah they win this week, why? Because they are a better team. They have not showed it to this point but they are.Let's see if Dallas believes it and plays like it or are they ready to throw the towel in already. If they lose today it will be hell in Dallas for two weeks with the bye week. Geez do not even want to think about it. Good luck Boys.

Romo should kill this defense and the Dallas defense is much much better then the Texans. We will see. Andre Johnson just take a damn game off would ya. He is the Texans chance to win this game cause he is unstoppable. As the Redskins found out. Much respect.

Don't think you won't get the Texans best shot this week. You will.

Dallas will NEVER lose top dog status in Texas to the Texans. Now the Texans may have a better football team in any given year but never will gain a top dog status over them. Dallas will always get more attention it is just how it is and I can't stand it myself and I am a big Dallas fan. The media can suck it.

I agree with you, but you are making my point. Texans fans also know this which is what fuels their hatred. A hatred, BTW, that will be on full display today.Dallas needs to be careful, too, if they don't come out strong and somewhat mitigate the crowd this game could get away from them and get really ugly really quickly.

O yeah I know they will get the best shot as Dallas gets the best shot of every team every week. Houston should win the game and I picked them to win this game before the season started. They are a good team on the verge of being a top contender for it all. If in fact they are a real contender this year this is a game they need to win. Won't surprise me if they win but it will not surprise me if Dallas plays like they are capable of and win this thing and put a statement on it. It is a big game for both franchises for the NOW. For Dallas to save their season and get them back on track to do some big things this year and for the Texans to show they are real contenders and can handle being the lead dog in their division.I actually root for the Texans they are fun to watch and was on the edge of my seat watching them at the Skins last week. Good luck

It's hard to root for the Texans as a Cowboys fan living in Houston b/c their Cowboys hate is so strong and on consistent display. It's like living in Philly.

Yeah well I would not know that living in Baltimore but I understand it. The Texans are just a team that is not in the national spotlight and there is nothing to hate for me about them. I guess what it is is they have not had a big success and therefore the hatred for them has not spread around the country as it has with Dallas. It is what it is.

Um, one could argue that Dallas' defense is not Indy's defense. I don't think Dallas necessarily needs a QB as strong as Indy's to win.

I'm a huge Texans fan, but this game worries me. I think the Cowboys pull this one out because there are too many dumping on them this week saying they have little chance. Reminds me of last year when they went to New Orleans. Very few expected them to win, but they snapped the Saints undefeated season. Should be a close game, but I think Dallas pulls this one out.

I'm not so sure Dallas is in a funk.

I think that they're somewhere normally going to be between 8-8 and 10-6 as long as they have Wade (fantastic coordinator; limited playoff success as a head coach); Toni Romo; and Jerrah. The first two have yet to prove that they can produce at a consistent and high level in the playoffs. The latter has run off both the strong personalities who helped him build the Cowboys organization up from prior low points - Jimmy and Parcells.

Wade's actually the least important piece of the mediocrity puzzle; if he does develop a spine, and / or starts producing results, then he'll be gone. Toni (yes, I intentionally mis-spelled it) is a great FFL QB, who is not as great an NFL QB. That's not likely to change.

I hope I'm wrong. But for now, I think that this is an organization that the Cowboys are an organization that can't get out of its own way.

it was no mystery why the Cowboys were 0-2. i'm not sure it was "funk" so much as poor gameplanning and lack of discipline.

they got a good win on the road by sticking to a good game plan. running the ball effectively, playing good D, and getting turnovers while not turning the ball over themselves. still way too many penalties.

the Cowboys have a long road ahead and a lot of work to do. as a fan i'm going into every week wondering if they can execute.

Agreed, one thing is for sure no matter where they play or who they play they can win and if they stop beating themselves they will be tough to beat.
