Many teams get rid of the coaches after a losing year but does anyone really know if it impacts W-L records?

What's a coach worth to a team's overall success? Does a team's performance rise after a coach gets fired in the middle of the year? What about in the offseason? Is there any data on this?

I was wondering about coaches the other day when the Pats smoked the Jets. Would the Jets have smoked the Pats if the coaches were reversed? How would the game have changed?
