Does this scenerio carry any weight ?

New England hops over the Jets trading with Kansas City

grabbing the #5 pick screwing Mangini in the process.

If either McFadden or Gholston (NOT BOTH, ONLY ONE) are on the board,

I wouldn't be shocked to see New England grab the player with KCs pick at #5.

a classic Belichick move.

I think the Jets would be just as happy with either Gholston or McFadden.

I imagine the Jets would say to the Pats "Go ahead. Knock yourself out."

I think both teams would be stoked with either of these players.I should have specified, if only one is on the board at #5,no one thinks the Pats may trade up 2 spots to grab the player ?

Nope. If Gholston or McFadden are both gone, the Jets call Baltimore and say "If you're not trading up for Matt Ryan, we're taking him."

NE WILL stick it to the Jets again this year....on the field, where it counts. Moving up in the draft 'aint happenin'. Not the Patriots. Unless Chris Long falls into their lap @7, theyre moving down. Bet the house on it.

I know there's a lot of bitterness between the two coaches, but why would a lofty team like the Patriots care about a basement-dweller like the Jets enough to let them influence their draft?

(Not a Patriots fan. Just sayin')

I do agree that chances are much higher of them moving down than up,but I thought this to be an interesting scenario.

Basement dweller?? The Jets have made the playoffs pretty much on an every other year basis. They made it mangini's first year, and with Herm they made it consistently. Now they havent been able to win in the playoffs, but how do you call a team who at least makes it there a basement dweller??Buf, Mia, Det, SF, Hou, N.O.,all are more deserving of the basement dweller label. But on topic, there is no way the Pats move UP in this draft. They easily move down or take a solid player at #7. The last thing they are worrying about is the JETS. Belichik will do his work on the field as Twitch said.

I find it fascinating. I really do. Its never happened. And it would be crazy to pay some rookie more cash than any player on the team NOT named Brady. But then, that just doesnt seem smart. And NE may be alot of things. Old. Slow. Arrogant. Hated. We both know this. But theyre also smart. Smart teams just dont willingly pay rookies more than the rest of the members of their 18-1 team. Ooops. My bad. 18-1* Gotta keep up appearances. Dont get me wrong. I'd love Chris Long or Vernon Gholston on this team. If one of them falls to 7, then we're gonna be loving it. But if it doesnt happen, then we're moving down and picking up someone like Rivers or McKelvin or Jenkins or Albert. Its definitely a contract issue, imo.

I may add Ryan Clady to the list if they move down. The lack of protection provided to Brady during the SBwas sorely evident.

I'm not picking on you, because I've seen this in a lot of places: why would NE go OL?Yes, I know they had an ugly SB. But prior to that the Patriots had the best offensive lines in the NFL, and one of the better offensive lines the league had seen in years.

You have a point, but if they trade into the bottom half of the first roundand get an extra 1st in 2009 in return, I could definitelysee them go Clady if he is still on the board. They always seem to surprise when it comes to gauging the NE pick, they went Logan Mankins in the 1st a few years ago. I do think defensive secondary is their biggest need, but Clady wouldfit in nicely if he slides down the board.

I don't know who the pick will be for the Pats, but I'll be stunned if it's not OL or DL.
