Does your fantasy league do anything for the regular season champ? (1 Viewer)

I've been toying with the idea of increasing the value of finishing first in the regular season for either an extra incentive to get there or a reward for finishing with the best regular season record.

There isn't really a way to give "home-field advantage" although before we implemented decimal scoring we gave the "home" team a 1/2 point advantage in the playoffs to avoid ties.

We also give out an A-Cup trophy to the winner of the regular season while the winner of the tournament is able to hoist the much more impressive D-Cup throphy, but inevitable the D-Cup winner gets all the glory..

How we have it constructed presently is that the team who finishes the regular season with the best record plays the worst playoff team based on record, so there is some incentive there but the playoffs are often a crapshoot based on matchups etc...

the real question I have is if there is any other way to increase the value of that top spot.

Presently we have four teams making the playoffs and each round of the playoffs is a combination score of two weeks: week 13-14 for round 1 and week 15 and 16 for round 2.

We have 6 teams make the playoffs, with top 2 getting byes.

But we also use an idea I got from somebody on the boards here. As a sort of home-field advantage, the higher seed gets to choose his opponent. So in the first round, the #3 seed gets to choose b/n the 5th and 6th team. In the semis, the #1 seed gets to choose either of the two first-round winners.

It's a slight advantage, and leads to some extra rivalries/trash-talking. I highly recommend it.

I'm in a league where 7 teams make the playoffs, and the regular season champ gets the only bye. I think if there's only 1 bye, it makes it more special.

I have been frustrated a lot in prior years by losing in the WC round as a 2 or 3 seed. Last year, I was the 1 seed, and it felt good to advance for free - I took a week off from FF.

6/10 make the playoffs. Top 2 teams have a 1st rd. bye.

We pay $75 to the best record, and, $75 to the team with the most points scored. (Regular season)

division winners(2) gets first round byes and get $200 each. both are guaranteed 4th place $($50). the one with best regular season record gets $50

one division winner is guaranteed $300 and the other $250.

this makes the season mean something

$150 league fee

Most "points for" gets rewarded after the regular season in my league.

IMO having the most points at the end of the regular season is a better indicator of the better team as opoosed to won-loss record.

12 Teams, 3 divisions of 4

The 3 division winners make the playoffs, and the next 3 best records do too (doesn't matter division)

13 week season, we play our division twice and everyone else once (every teams has one other team that they dont play).

Playoffs are week 14 - 16

1st Seed $225 and a 1st round bye

2nd Seed $200 and a 1st round bye.

seed 3 plays 6

seed 4 plays 5

Seeds 3 through 6 receive money too, but the higer the seed the more money they win

The winner of the fist games get another $50. No matter which seed wins the first round games, they won't win more money (at that point) than they would if they had the bye. So that's the advantage of finishing top 2 in the regular season.

in my 10 team league, 4 teams make playoffs (just like yours)

For the 1st round of Playoffs what we do is give a +3 point advantage for every win better than opponent.

So, if a 10-4 team plays a 8-6 team, than the 10-4 team gets spotted 6 points.....sort of like a home field advantage for the first round. (we set a max for spotted point be +9)

The Super Bowl there isn't any points spotted though (signifies neutral site)

The regular season champ in our league gets 30% of the pot. We decided on this due to the fact that often during the FFL playoffs, the NFL teams tend to bench their best players if they have their post-season ticket stamped and thus the SB champion ended up being a lower seed. I think it's only fair

The SB champ gets 45% and the runner-up gets 25%. Overall, no complaints.

4 teams make the playoffs. In the first round #1 seed gets ten points over the fourth and the second seed gets five points over the third seed. In the SB niether team gets points, because we figure that in the real super bowl neither team will have home field advantage there either.

We've got a six team playoff with two byes. We added a weekly high score pot this year, thinking that the teams with the highest overall point totals were also the most likely to be the high scorer for the week. As mentioned earlier, I don't like awarding a regular season title based on record. I think it should be strictly on points scored.

In addition to a share of the pot, the regular season champ should be allowed to pick their opponent in the first round of the playoffs. It might help them, or it might bite them in the butt...but it's a privilege fantasy owners would like to have.

They get to play the 8 seed in my league. 8 teams make playoffs.

That doesn't guareentee a thing though as sometimes the lower seeds are hot at the right time and the top seed just lost a stud or are struggling at the worst time possible and get knocked off. But they are awarded an extra 125 bucks for winning the division regardless of there playoff advancement so all is not lost even if the 8 seed knocks them off week 14.

It's happened to me lots of times in other leagues too. 1 seeds are never a sure bet in the fantasy world. Thats why this is such a great sport.

My league has 12 teams ($91 entry fee and $1 per WW pickup or player traded) and three divisions with the division winners and highest second place finisher advancing to the playoffs. During the season the top scorer each week gets $20 and second gets $10. This usually keeps the matchups competative even of one team is out of the playoffs. At the end of the season, the high points scorer for the season gets 1/4 of the pot and the remainder is split 60-30-10 for first, second and third in the playoffs.

I'm part of a league where home field advantage is given by letting that team pick one extra player not in the line-up, if that player outscores the starter the points are added to the teams total.

Heck, we save half the pot for the regular season. Then we give byes, 3-point home field advantages and allow top seeds to choose their playoff opponents from among the bottom seeds.

Reg Season Champ gets a cash payment equal to his entry fee.

That way even if he loses in the 1st round of the playoffs, he gets something for putting together the best regular season team.

This is an issue near and dear to me as I've been the overall regular season winner in my league three years running with in Championship (its driving me nuts).

7/12 make it to the playoffs, Regular Season champ gets a bye - This worked fairly well last year.

Personally, I've been trying to sell a mechanism whereby the highest seed alive gets to choose his opponent throughout the playoffs. Thus avoiding having to play a "stronger" low seed (sometime the higher seeds are weaker due to injuries or the lower seed has a low seed due to record but has good overall season points).

We reward $100 to the top overall scorer, $50 each in offense, defense and special teams and $25 each in 10 position categories. This helps keep the non-playoff bound teams from doing nothing in the final weeks of our regular season. The teams in each conference with the best record get a bye in week 14 and are guaranteed no worse than 4th place.

I suggested this today calling it the "pick your poison" clause

Let the team with the best regular season record choose their first round opponent in the playoffs. It's a nice little reward and can be a significant, "home field" type advantage.
