Does your league allow pickups after TNF (1 Viewer)

I'm sure this is happening all around the leagues with Nate Kaeding being rules out on Saturday

Our league has always locks rosters once that week's games started so this week one owner was stuck with Kaeding who was rules out on Saturday with no ability to pick up another kicker

He has suggested giving him the replacement Charger kicker

The counter argument is that if your QB is playing Monday Night and gets ruled out right before the game, his owner will likely have no other option either so making an exception just because it's a kicker seems ridiculous but having rosters locked from Thursday on does make management of rosters very difficult

Our rules state that rosters are locked after the first game of the week starts

Of course it does.

Locking rosters once the first game of the week starts is an AWFUL and pointless rule.

That's a crappy league

That sounds like a carry over rule from the days of starting the week on Sunday only games. With modern league software it's easy to allow for pickups up until kickoff of any player's game. Seems odd to not take advantage of that. Excuse me while I go and put on my leather helmet. :football:

Ok so how do you handle the current situation??

Week is active and a player loses his kicker before a game which has now already been played. Do you apply the same rule in case Tony Romo goes out before tomorrow's game? Does the team automatically get Brad Johnson or whoever the backup is?

Do we retroactively give him the SD kicker or does he get a pick of all available kickers.

Seems to me that everyone is playing by the same rules, so if something changes it should be after today. If he is concerned, then carry two kickers. I would explore changing the rule, but too late for this situation.

If that's the rule than I imagine he has to live with the situation and start Kaeding. Has this rule always been in effect for many years? It can't be the first time this situation has come up. I'm assuming that roster sizes are sufficient to allow a team to keep a backup at all positions and that the team in question probably chose to carry one kicker so that he could load up at RB or WR. If so, than this is the price he needs to pay for managing his roster in that manner. All players in the league play under the same rules thus the rule conveys no particular advantage or disadvantage to any one team. He left himself with no backup kicker and he needs to live with the consequences of that choice!

 Why are you overcomplicating things? Anybody that hasnt played in a game yet should be allowed to be picked up before their game starts.

Huh? Why would you do any of this? You already said:

His roster is locked. His kicker this week is Kaeding. :shrug:It's a terrible rule but it's the rule. Change it for next year.

We allow pickups after Thursday's game starts. However, once I guy's game has started he can only be gotten through the next week's waivers.

So on Friday, yep coulda picked up a fresh kicker. But I couldn't pick up somebody from the Browns or Ravens.

This, except vote on a mid-season rule change, and if everyone approves, make a change next week. Rosters locking on Thursday is horrible.

Even back on my pen and paper days we didn't have rosters lock until 1pm Sunday game. Thursday was just an anomaly. We have fcfs until the start of sunday at 1. Even then you can change lineups until people play, that was the last rule we added.

He starts Kaeding and he takes a zero. After that, feel free to change your rules to join the 21st century.
It's the current rule. Yeah it sucks and needs to be changed. This should be the fuel to make it happen. GL getting it changed this week but absolutely needs changed prior to next season. Rule was probably fine when all games started on Sunday but with the evolution of the Thursday night games it makes no sense to keep this rule.

In my league you can cut any player who hasn't played and add any player who hasn't played (as long as they aren't on waivers for being recently dropped). It has nothing to do with automatically getting anyone's backup.

In our league the only players you can`t add or drop are the ones that played on Thursday Night. Those players are frozen until the weeks games are completed.

My old timers league (15 years old) closes the waiver wire after the first game of the week. The charger fan in the league was stuck holding Keading. Funny cause this is the guy who usually carries two K's and two D's all season. Any way he got stuck, and will lose because of it. We will probably change it next season, but not this year.

Thursday games used to only happen at the end of the season and there were only a few games. Not anymore. This leaves us with only 2 days to do blind bidding and FCFS. Time to change it.

This is a problem with auction waivers in CBS. Waivers run every night around 1:30 AM by using blind bidding. The owners like this but the downfall is that you cannot pick up a player outside of waivers. So in other words, no add/drop available after Sunday 1:30 AM. I've emailed CBS asking them to give us an option for an add/drop after bidding.
