Dogs are freaking AWESOME. (1 Viewer)

Here is our new girl. She was rescued from a puppy mill. I guess because her and her liter mates were cream color they did not meet standard so the low life puppy mill breeder was going to put all 8 of them down. https://imgur.com/a/KOmVy5j

Thanks to this guy https://x.com/ballsdeepindoge?s=09 she was saved and delivered to us in FL. He lives on the road and goes all over the country rescuing these pups and finding them homes. Great guy.

Anyway she's very skittish but I think we will have her filling right at home before anytime.

So if anyone knows of anyone that may be interested in one of these two , Doge Van will bend over backwards to get them to you. It's free delivery and free Shibas.

I didn't realize the Amish were so involved in puppy mills. These are the mills that Doge Van focuses his rescue efforts on. In his opinion they are some of the worse puppy mills.

We have had tons of golden doodles abandoned in fields in our area. They are most likely coming from the Amish.

My oldest, Zeus went in for his spring check up yesterday, he's started limping a bit more over the past few weeks and we've noticed a bit of growth on his front knee/elbow. Vet thinks it's very likely osteosarcoma, x-rays tomorrow to confirm.

Assuming it is, prognosis/options are basically
- no treatment, 3-4 months expectancy, lots of pain (try pain management)
- amputate the leg, similar expectancy, less pain (cancer will spread and take him out though)
- amputate the leg and go with chemotherapy. 50% chance at expectancy to one year, 22% two years or more.

obviously there is a cost component too, with amputation and chemo probably being $10k plus.

I'm devastated and don't know what to do, assuming the x-ray confirms diagnosis. I don't want him to be in pain, I don't want to lose him so quickly, I don't know if I'm being selfish keeping him around on chemotherapy or if I'm giving him the chance at another 1-2 good years.

He is by all other accounts, including blood work etc.. very healthy but he is also 12+ years old.

Mostly I'm just so sad thinking about it but can't think of anything else.

We had this happen with our mastiff. I'm not going to try to persuade you in any decision but wanted to say I'm sorry and this sucks. Best of luck to you and Zeus.

It doesn't help at all but maybe adds some levity, I should mention Zeus is an absolute goofball of a Golden Retriever.

There was a new tech that we saw before the vet and she commented how every Zeus she had seen was a German Shepherd, Rottweiler, etc...

Our Zeus is a rescue along with a bunch of other Goldens and they were all named for Greek gods (Venus, Athena, Aphrodite, etc...), we had another name in mind, then we got him and he had a huge head for his at the time malnourished body and a noisy bark, so we decided he would remain Zeus.

Ours was an english mastiff named after the character Omar from The Wire. He was the biggest sissy on earth. Afraid of everything. He once struggled out of his collar and ran the last two blocks home, leaving a trail of piss the whole way, because a plastic bag blew in the wind next to him.

X-rays showed, it WAS NOT cancer. I am so relieved. They really indicated it was likely going to be cancer, they already had given us all the paperwork on it, only sent him home with one months worth of his annual medications instead of the usual whole package, etc... and basically told us to expect the worse today.

And now, it's arthritis and I have been in a panic for 48 hours for nothing.

Give Zeus some extra skritches for me!

and ask him if he’d like to find a new vet.

I think Vet costs are really ridiculous now. I don't see how my Vet could keep a straight face when she said it would cost $655 dollars to spay our new pup. She weighs under 10 lbs.

We spent about $1500 this week between the initial visit and then follow sedation and x-rays. Craziness.

Yea Vets have just about priced themselves out of reach for alot of folks. When my little frenchie got IVDD I spent a small fortune trying to keep him alive to no avail.

The price for spaying is ridiculous though. I did find a not for profit Vet service who will do it for $155.

It's been awhile since I've had a pup. She is real timid around us still but that's pretty common for a puppy mill pup from what I understand.

She loves our 12 year old bloodhound though. She won't leave the old guy alone.

I've had mine since a puppy - also a puppy mill rescue - so he's not timid, but does have some anxieties. He's very friendly with people and other dogs.

Thank goodness! So glad to hear it.
