Dominic Rhodes arrested - DUI (1 Viewer)

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?sectio...&id=2771922

Not that some teams really give a flip, but did he just hand back the extra money a good Superbowl performance earned him?

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana State police arrested Colts running

back Dominic Rhodes for drunk driving Tuesday morning, police said.

Rhodes was driving 81 mph in a 55 mph on northbound Interstate

65 in Indianapolis about 3 a.m., said Indiana State Police

spokesman Sgt. Dave Bursten.

"It was a normal run of the mill drunk driving arrest,"

Bursten said.

Colts officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Rhodes rushed for more than 100 yards in the Super Bowl win over

Chicago. He is currently a free agent.

To call him an idiot would be generous. Besides being lucky he didn't kill someone he just cost himself a nice chunk of change. There's never a good time for this stunt but in his case the timing could not be worse.

Man you guys ride on your high horses don't you. So you never had a couple of beers and driven your car? If he was hammered thats one thing but if the limit is .08 and he was .10(anyone who drinks has been there some of us are lucky and never got busted) I am not saying that drinking and driving is the right thing to do. All I am saying is if you drink then most likley you have driven in a state that had you been pulled over you would have gotten a DUI/DWI.

How does this cost him a chunk of change? Athletes get busted for DUI all the time. Sure it's stupid...but it's seemingly part of the business. Jared Allen has been busted for DUI twice in the last 8 months or so. Let's see if that "costs him a chunk of change" since he's a FA as well.

Driving 81 mph on the Interstate is not really that fast, considering the speed limit on many stretches is 70 mph. If he got pulled for speeding at 3 am, I imagine an officer would ask him if he had been drinking. If he blew .08 or a little above, it doesn't mean he was weaving all over the road, and visibly impaired.

Because top DEs have more leeway than change-of-pace RBs.

That has to be the most ignorant post I've read on here for a while, lets see how you feel once a drunk driver has crushed a member of your own family

I think it is ignorant to think that this does not happen everyday all over the world. So you are the guy who has never driven after having a few drinks or maybe you are not old enough to drink. But for people who have two glasses of wine with dinner and then drive home could get pulled over and get a DUI.Hey but you live in a world where stuff like this does not happen. I glad to have you as my moral compass!

Thats right if I'm the designated driver I don't drink those 2 glasses of wine, I decide before I leave my home if I'm going to drink.

Smarten up, scumbag!

Hold up there JR. I don't think you need to start calling names. All I did is state that this kind of thing happens all the time. I did not say it was right. If you have never had a drink and driven great. I would say that if you are someone who drinks that you are in the minority. My point is that an NFL RB or a movie star is no different than anoyone else other than the spotlight shinning on them.

This is an ultra sensitive board so choose your words wisely, grown men cry here on the regular.

Not defending DUIs but he had a rational point, many people have a wine or two with dinner and would be technically DUI. Now was Rhodes doing this, I highly doubt so. At 3am what could he possibly be up to? More than a few beers Im sure. A worse time for this to happen would be during the regular season, where he would be suspended without pay.

My point is that an NFL RB or a movie star is no different than anoyone else other than the spotlight shinning on them.
Exactly. Drunk driving is supremely stupid no matter who you are. It's indefensible and inexcusable.

Joseph Addai's FF value keeps getting better and better.
Hard to say. This incident probably made Rhodes less attractive to other teams, but the Colts I'm sure feel like they know the guy and wouldn't be ashamed to retain him for the right price. Ironically, this may have increased the chance that Rhodes may resign with the Colts.

1. I agree that it is more likely the Colts would be able to keep Rhodes after this.2. The Colts will likely use a 2-back system next year, too, whether they keep Rhodes or not. If a system is successful, why screw it up?

Is it indefensible and inexcusable to have two glasses of wine and drive or to be Drunk and drive. Because both could end in a DUI.
You need to lay of this one, those 1/10 of a second those glasses of wine takes off your reaction time might come in handy before you know it. The limit is there for a reason, get it ?

Can some people have a drink or two and not drive impared? Certainly. However, if you have consumed enough alcohol, be it even ONE drink, to cause you to be driving impared then yes, it's indefensible and inexcusable.

So it's all about tolerance? If you can handle it you are ok to drive?

When something happens you can always tell yourself that your drinking had nothing to do with it :banned:

Rhodes is the newest member of DAMM, now don't kill the poster.

The problem is - how do you know if you can handle it?We have laws for a reason. People aren't pulled over for DUI's just because the police want to be mean.

I don't know what you're talking about, there is no justifying that crap. Don't care if you do it yourself or not, don't make it sound like its okay as long as you live up to the standards of some homemade rules. It might work out for a long time but when/if the day comes you're in an accident you want to have a clear conscience.

So much for "Dominic Rhodes is elusive" talk.............
that's funny!what he did, however...not so much

nothing good ever comes from driving 81MPH @3AM...espically after pounding a few---and don't give me the "well, haven't you ever driven after a couple" speech

I've never driven 81MPH @3AM "after a couple"---if anyone is out running the streets @that time and speed, he's clearly had a few "couples"...not smart

as a GM looking for a RB I'd be a bit concerned about a guy nailed in this situation---we don't know where he stands w/the leagues substance abuse policy (has he already had "a strike", meaning this would be #2?)

so yes, IMO Mr Rhodes has cost himself some :goodposting: :whoosh:

Oh my .

More details of the arrest emerged in a probable cause affidavit, a sworn statement filed by state police Trooper Ahmad I. Hafez to document the charges.

Hafez said he clocked Rhodes at 82 mph in a 55-mph zone and watched the Colts player's GMC Yukon drive onto the shoulder briefly just after 3 a.m. Tuesday on northbound I-65 near 71st Street.

After failing two field-sobriety tests, Rhodes told Hafez he had consumed two or three alcoholic drinks. While sitting in the police car's front seat, Rhodes urinated on himself, the report said.

So he was literally pissing away his market value. :goodposting:

LOL at anyone who turns into a pisspants at .09 :goodposting:

Rhodes now replaces Onterrio Smith to tandem with Davenport as the best 1/2 combo in the NFL.

 I apologize....but this was going to happen, so I just figured I'd get it over with quickly.

"Why were you driving so fast, Mr. Rhodes?"

"I really have to pee, officer."

"Please step out of the car. I want to give you a few tests.

"I really have to pee, officer."

"OK, please get in the back of the squad car, Mr. Rhodes."

"I really have to pee, officer."

"I'm going to be taking you downtown now for booking, Mr. Rhodes. You can pee when we get there."

"No need."
