Don Lemon-How does he still have a show on CNN? (1 Viewer)

The national conversation about corporal punishment of children, spurred by the indictment of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, continued Wednesday night with a CNN debate that started quite reasonably but eventually went off the rails with Don Lemon comparing hitting a child to hitting a dog and then eluding to “slave masters” as justification for the practice in the black community.

Chris Cuomo, who was stopping by from his usual position at New Day, offered up his opposition to corporal punishment, making the point that based on research it’s not actually the best deterrent for bad behavior.

Lemon immediately disagreed, using his own background, as he did earlier this week, to argue that in certain situations hitting a kid can actually prevent worse violence, like them running into the street and getting hit by a car.

“For me as an African-American, the question is where did you learn that from? Is that learned from the slave master?Getting the switch? Being beaten?” Lemon asked at one point.

“How is that a rationale?” Cuomo shot back. “I keep hearing this. Well, maybe it was passed down from slave culture. Why would that be a rationale to continue a practice like this? Isn’t that the last thing you would want to continue?”

“Why not break that cycle?” Alisyn Camerota added.

Cuomo asked Lemon if he really believes he stayed out of trouble as a kid because someone “beat you ###.”

“You said some one beat my ###, someone didn’t beat my ###,” Lemon responded. “My mom spanked me. That is not a beating. There is a difference.http://www.mediaite.com/tv/don-lemon-shocks-cnn-hosts-by-using-slavery-as-justification-for-spanking/

I like Don Lemon a lot. Probably my favorite host on any of the 24-hour news channels. Not sure about these comments though.

On March 20, he asked guests whether Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 could have been swallowed by a black hole: “I know it’s preposterous, but is it preposterous?
He later compared spanking children to training dogs and probed similarities between the release of US Army POW Bowe Bergdahl and the Showtime series Homeland.
as protests turned violent in Ferguson, MO, he described the scene: “Obviously, there’s a smell of marijuana in the air.”
When an alleged Bill Cosby rape victim appeared on his show on Nov. 18, he lectured, “You know, there are ways not to perform oral sex if you didn’t want to do it…Meaning the use of teeth, right?
:o

Why is this guy on the air?

He needs to be on MSNBC. CNN used to have higher standards.

'America loves morons on TV' would be my guess.

Don Lemon Holds A Big N-Word Sign On CNNCNN anchor Don Lemon sparked a controversy -- and perhaps a new meme -- on Monday night during an attempt to engage his audience in a debate on race.

Capping a day in which South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley ® called for the removal of the Confederate flag from the grounds of the state capitol, Lemon held up a Confederate flag of his own and asked viewers, "Does this offend you?"

But it's what he held up next that has everyone talking and tweeting.

In a podcast interview that aired on Monday, President Barack Obama used the word ___________ on it, and ask his audience, "Does this offend you?"

That prompted Lemon to hold up a large sign with the word _______ on it, and ask his audience, "Does this offend you?"

The unusual segment caused Lemon to trend on Twitter, but probably not in the way he wanted: The trending phrase was "Has Don Lemon Lost His ####### Mind?" due to a Gawker story on the segment with the same headline (which includes a poll where readers could answer the question).

Boing Boing joined in, asking Twitter user Darth to get busy with Photoshop and transform Lemon into a meme:

Unprofessional moron.
