Donald Driver Surgery (1 Viewer)

Interesting that Jackson has showed up looking good.

Hopefully he can keep that up and have it translate to game time.

We're only 3 practices in, but so far Jordy Nelson has been all over the place, Finley is still a beast, and James Jones has been all but invisible. Driver and Jennings are getting theirs too, but if your choosing between Jordy Nelson and James Jones, so far it's been Nelson in a landslide. Again, only 3 practices, so take it for what it's worth...

Also hearing good things about Brandon Jackson. I guess he's looking much improved. Starks is out with a hamstring, so it looks like Jackson is still your handcuff if you think you need one for Grant.
I think you may be reading a bit into these twitter updates

Great article. But will definitely be a tough decision for Thompson.

How long can he really keep going? When does he hit the wall? And how much is the right amount for a player at his age?

Love Driver...my favorite Packer right now and probably top 3 favorite in my lifetime...hopefully they can get him a little 2 year extension and go from there.

I don't see Nelson in this report. I haven't seen any reports that he was catching everything. I did see that for Finley.

Day 3, Practice No. 4 – The Roundup

Posted by Kareem Copeland August 2nd, 2010, 7:30 pm

Packers coach Mike McCarthy called this stretch the hardest part of camp, going through the first days of full pads and the initial 2-a-days. Also, players are getting extra reps from extended special teams periods. (There have been looong punt periods every practice.)

“I am very aware that we have run our players more at this point of training camp probably going all the way back to maybe my first year,” McCarthy said. “The practices that follow will indicate what we are trying to get done. But I felt it was important these first four days to get as much in in normal down-and-distance, third down and red zone.”

Red zone and 2-minute periods drew the most attention Monday. The defense is still ahead of the offense at this point, but both sides had their moments.

Donald Lee and Jermichael Finley both caught 15-yard touchdowns from Aaron Rodgers, working the middle of the field. James Jones caught two touchdowns from Rogers.

Catch of the day: was a 15-yard score during the same period when Jeff Moturi dove low and to his right in the back of the end zone, barely getting his feet down for the touchdown.

The red zone period wound down with the team taking a single snap, starting at the 21-yard line, and moving closer to the end zone in one-yard increments before a final play from the three-yard line.

The highlights of that section: A 12-yard connection from Graham Harrell to Kregg Lumpkin. A 7-yard touchdown from Matt Flynn to Chastin West, who was wide open crossing into the left side of the end zone. A five-yard touchdown run by Ryan Grant.

The 2-minute drill was owned by the defense. Practice ended with the No. 1 offense taking its shot, starting from the opposite 40-yard line, and the No. 2 unit doing the same afterward.

The No. 1 offense sputtered out at the 35-yard line with an Aaron Rodgers incomplete pass. The key plays of the series was a false start (couldn’t tell on who) and a Jermichael Finley drop (which I think was the first I’ve seen in camp).

The No. 2 offense drove to the 8-yard line before A.J. Hawk knocked down a Flynn pass near the goal-line.

Not a good start: K Mason Crosby missed his only two attempts Monday, both from 40-yards. He’s now 6-for-11 in camp. McCarthy plainly said after practice, “I’m not concerned with Mason Crosby.”

Notable: Linebacker Brandon Chillar picked off Rodgers and returned it for a short touchdown earlier in day. The offense was working short passes with their backs close to the end zone when Chillar caught the ball in the left flat after it was deflected in the middle of a bunch of bodies.

Chillar has been getting snaps at right outside linebacker the last two practices. Clay Matthews has moved to the left in those instances.

“Our linebacker group is talented, and we’re trying to find as many different ways to play those guys as we possibly can,” McCarthy said.

Tidbits: McCarthy said there’s no update on Atari Bigby and that the safety will be traveling Tuesday to get more tests done on the ankle.

Still no timetable on RB James Starks return. McCarthy said the hamstring was a little worse than they initially thought.

Still no OLB Brad Jones (back). He’s day-to-day.

Rookie S Morgan Burnet could have had another interception today, but wasn’t able to hold on.

That is the question. When he falls off he could still be a possession receiver though.

Agreed...and he might even take that roll and drop behind a guy like Nelson as well...but who knows...might be too proud and really want to start or want starter $$$

Anyone who thinks that Jones is going to replace Driver this year is someone I want in my ff league
Yeah, that late round pick they waste on Jones will help lead you straight to the top!
yes, thats what i said  I will be perfectly happy drafting JJ late (12th plus) because should driver go down, JJ could be a top 20 wr scoring wise, and I am all about taking long shots at the end of the draft with maximum upside. But if you think that this year, JJ is replacing Driver, you need to roll down the window and throw the crack pipe away

Classy Donald Driver gets contract

Donald Driver wants to play until he is 40 and he took a step in that direction, signing a two-year contract extension tonight with the Green Bay Packers.

The new pact will keep him in uniform until he is 38. Entering his 13th season with the franchise, he was set to earn $6.8 million this season, according to Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, with $4 million in base salary and $2.8 million in the form of a roster bonus. Terms of the extension have not been reported.

“It’s been going on for awhile," Driver said. "Now it’s done and I’m happy about it. Now I’m a Green Bay Packer for life.”

Or he is a Packer until he is 38. At any rate, Driver already has the most receptions in franchise history and needs 607 yards to eclipse James Lofton and become Green Bay’s all-time leader in yardage. He’s been a model employee for the franchise and benefitted from many years of playing with No. 4.

“It gets to a point where you realize you want to be here for your whole career," Driver said. “Whatever it is, accept it and play it out and if you still feel like you want to play at that time you can. I sat down and talked to my wife what I wanted to do. If the Lord tells me at 38 when this contract is up to continue playing I will. If not, I’ll retire.”

I will tell you why I do not like old post bumps. Why do I want to read through or scan down all that old crap to see what the ideas are on his present status and condition. What was posted in June has little relevance to his present situation.

Actually, some of us like to have historical reference. Plus, there is an amazing function where you can go straight to the last page of the thread. See, that way, people who don't appreciate frames of reference and those who do can co-exist rather than have the board flooded by new posts after new post...As to the question posed above as to whether Jones will now supplant Driver... With Drivers history and contract extension and Jones drops... I vote for not just yet.

Jones looked really good last night. But it is worth noting that Jordy was on the field in 2 WR sets, not Jones. Although I think that says alot more about Jones, as he was able to do what he did in a smaller amount of time.

That TD showcased his power, which is impressive for a WR.

And unfortunately his drop at the goal-line highlighted the chronic problem with his hands...

I posted the original :wall: and I'm not really mad, was more just a joke considering for a moment or two when I read the thread title, I thought news came out today that Driver needed surgery again, and I was excited as a Jones owner that I might have someone viable down the stretch :)Anyway, now that this isn't the case I have to decide whether I can afford to/whether it is worthwhile to hold onto him during the Week 10 bye...

It is purely anecdotal, but I had Jones last night going against the Rodgers owner and noticed the same lack of Jones' presence in 2 WR sets. However, it also seemed like GB ran a significant majority of the time in these formations.

did we watch the same play?id refer to it as "the matador" -- mike jenkins basically let jones walk into the endzone

Anyone starting Jones this week in light of Driver being limited in practice today?

What do you realistically expect from Jones if you start him against Minny?

Green Bay Packers WR Donald Driver (quadriceps) said his injury started as a thigh bruise, but he made things worse trying to play through injury, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Driver explained that he tore the muscle and the blood pooled around the muscle to cause undue stress which led to the strain. "The blood and fluid can't go anywhere," Driver said. "So you overwork the muscle to try to pump it out, and you end up messing something else up." He remains questionable for Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.

If Driver doesn't play, he's a good start. But if Driver is in there, he's risky. Sort of a Lance Moore situation. Could have an amazing week or could be worthless. He was great in his last game and great in Week 7, but put up a goose egg in Week 8. Granted, it was against the Jets, but still.

Poor old Donald Driver can't get any respect but watch him run loose against the Lions this week. Play him as your WR3 and expect WR2 or 1 numbers. Prediction: 6-85-1

petition to change the thread title, very misleading
Not if you look at the date. Jones was good for a while, but now it's back to WR2A and 2B plus Nelson's in the mix. If you take the one long reception out he was 3 for 12 yards. He had 8 targets and Jones had 4 so he hasn't lost his job after all.

He isn't ready for the rocking chair next to Favre just yet? Fresh legs do help.
