Dorsey vs. Ellis (1 Viewer)

In a sack heavy league would you value Ellis over Dorsey?, as Ellis seems to have a greater array of pass rush moves, and he seems to get the quarterback better?. Is Dorsey more likely to put up heavier numbers playing the UT in KC's D, even if Ellis migth have the better pass rusher skill set?

At what position in the draft would you start looking at taking both these guys?

That's the million dollar question. Ellis has a number of things working for him (scouts report better finishing skills esp in pass rush, better surrounding cast, likely to get some 3-tech snaps), but I think he's still a little riskier than Dorsey, whose first step explosiveness should be enough to allow him to take advantage of the undertackle position. It'll probably end up being very close, with both starting out around the 40-5 range. I don't think I'd take either in a DL league until the fourth round or so this year. DT leagues, depending on scoring system, might warrant a mid-3rd or better.

At what point should these guys be drafted in a 12 team league that requires 2 DT's in the starting lineup. I am curious where they would fall with respect to other IDP's and in general at what point in the draft they could be expected to go. I am thinking 3rd round possibly since quality FF DT's are hard to come by. Any thoughts? Thanks for any input

I took Ellis at 6.08 in a 12 team rook draft because I thought he had value there. Dorsey went at 2.05. No required DT, but there wasn't much other value there anyway.

In a league that requires 2 DTs, third round sounds about right.

If reports of Ellis playing the Nose in the Saints 4-3 are true, the separation between he and Dorsey increases substantially in favor of Dorsey in my opinion. I love Ellis' ability to penetrate the line of scrimmage and make plays, but he will have a difficult time being productive in FF on the Nose.

I agree. At present it doesn't look good but I'd still take him in the 6th round in a 12 team league just in case.
