Doug Gabriel? (1 Viewer)

With Porter seemingly out of the #2 spot, and Gabriel taking the #2 spot, what kind of numbers can we expect from Doug Gabriel this season?

Will Gabriel keep the #2 spot all season, or will Porter get it back?

Local- Porter and the Raiders haven't had any closure on their issues while Gabriel looked pretty good the other night. Personally, I think Porter comes back and if the Raiders utilize him effectively, he should easily surpass the 800 yards from last year as he has solid skills- the Raiders need to target him more.

Don't forget about Curry. You'll see him come week 1.

They'll ease him in, but if he can somehow recover, he's a poor man's Anquan.

Any chance Gabriel puts up 8 TDs and 800-1000 yards?
Do yourself a favor. Rather than begin new threads on guys like Gabriel, Roddy White, and Bledsoe v Romo (as you've done this evening), make use of the search function and add your post to the previous threads. You'll get a lot more info in the previous threads on these topics than you will by starting new ones. A lot of folks just don't feel like repeating themselves every time someone starts new threads asking the same questions about players previously discussed.

Thanks for the advice. I already did a search before I posted this, and didn't really find what I was looking for. Lots of the info was a few weeks old as well, so I'm looking for something recent.

Please don't misunderstand - I wasn't complaining, I was just trying to help. I know there have been spotlight discussions on White (as well as others), and a whole lot of discussion on Gabriel in the wake of Porter's demotion. Lots of good discussion in those threads that would help you form your own opinion on these guys.FWIW, projection samplings I've done from around the net are generally putting Gabriel in the 80-100 FP range, and White in the 100-120 FP range.

No offense taken :bye: Are these projections recent, with knolwledge of the Porter situation?

Yes, they include the Porter situation. There are also projections I've seen with Gabriel at 70 FP or lower but they tend to have Porter higher, so I assume they are believing Porter regains his #2 role, at least to share (I personally don't see that happening). Both White and Gabriel are limited in perceived upside for various reasons. With White, the Falcons just don't pass the ball as often as other teams in the league (I haven't looked lately so I can't give you exact rankings, but they've been near the bottom in pass attempts for a few years now), plus there's Jenkins and Crumpler to also spread the ball to. With Gabriel, you're looking Randy Moss on the other side catching 80+ balls if healthy and the chance Porter regains his #2 status.

Well, after a promising start I am sorely disappointed this thread did not devolve into something nasty and personal. Maybe next time . . .

I like Gabriel. Porter took personal shots at the coach that I think even a forgiving coach will find hard to overlook when you have other talent to throw to. He's one of my sleepers to grab cheap late. Hopefully Brooks will appreciate early on what a slug Moss is and look quickly to the #2 option during games when Moss is deciding not to play hard.

I'm a Raiders fan, and I think the potential reward doesn't outweigh the risk.

Even if Gabriel starts all year, I wonder what kind of consistency he'll have. Now, I could be underrating him. He came in very raw, and despite some drops and quiet games, he has developed nicely, if not as quickly as Raider fans would like. He has the speed and size, but don't forget, if Curry is right and Porter pulls his head from his backside, Gabe could be the #4 WR quickly.

Now, those are both big questions, and I expect bigger numbers from Gabe than either of them, but a shaky #2 on the Raiders isn't really a guy I'd be targeting.
