Doug Martin, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1 Viewer)

My draft dominator is telling me he is a top 20 pick in ppr. Is this accurate? There is no way I pull the trigger on him in the 2nd or 3rd, although I am certain he will last until the 4th and probably even to the 6th in my league. Lots of gunshy people after the Mark Ingram situation last year.

Just did a mock at FF Calculator and Martin went in the early 3rd. NFL.com has a story about how he has officially won the starting job. Whether it's hype or for real at this point but he may go earlier than the 4th or 6th.

Thanks...this will help a lot. I am still pretty sure I will be able to get him in the 4th or 5th in my league. It is a 10 teamer.

The mock I did was a 12-teamer so yes you should be good. Unless someone in your league has learned they call him "muscle hamster" and is using a nickname-based drafting strategy. In which case he'll go in the 2nd (after Megatron).

FWIW he went at 5.02 at my 12 team PPR last night. With the groans from the other owners, it seemed they were all targeting him in that round.

I don't understand why a (potential) 3 down workhorse would fall to the 5th.
I got him in the 4th in my 12 teamer, and in the 5th in my 14 teamer. The 14 team league has some rookies in it, so that's probably why he fell. I couldn't have been happier to pick him up there.

37th overall in my 10 team....to me. He wouldn't have made it back to me at 44.

Had two drafts over the past weekend, neither of which were PPR. One is mostly casual FFers and hobbyists, while the second is a bit of a mix but probably 75% are serious FFers (loosely defined as 5+ years experience and 3+ leagues a year).

In the more serious of the two leagues, he went 41st overall. I was going to pull the trigger at 38, but took Fred Jackson, instead. There was no audible swearing when Martin was selected, so I think at least the next few picks were eyeing someone else.

In the casual league, as is usually the case, QBs were flying off the board (4 by the end of the first, 9 by the end of the 5th). I got Martin at pick number 52 as my RB3. This time there was definitely swearing as I think the entire league was hoping to get him that round. Either way, he really seems to be falling far and I don't really know why. Maybe Mark Ingram has people drafting Martin late in much the same way that Cam Newton has people drafting Griffin early.

I gather from reading this thread that martins current adp is around 35-45 overall pick. I may stand alone but i don't think you can argue taking him as the 10th rb overall or the 20th. He is a rookie but the starter in what should be a run first offense. He could put up 700 yds or 1200. He could have 20 catches or 50. No one knows at this point but would you rather take a chance on his upside or take darren sproles? No right or wrong answer unfortunately. I personally like to roll the dice on the rookies.

according to fantasypro's ADP - ESPN has him around 70... which is insane. it think it has something to do with their low ranking of him... i'm amazed. i have a draft coming up tonight that's on ESPN with some friends - some are serious, some aren't - and if he slides i'm going to be soooo happy.

After doing an espn online draft with some coworkers, i picken him up in the 7th round due to espn having him ranked so low!

Thats crazy people get him in the 7th. I'm trying to decide whether he's worth it at 3.03 right now ... doubt he'll be there at 4.10

I took him at 4.3 and had a lot of people upset schiano says its his job to lose and I'm starting to believe Freeman is one of the check down kings guy should be money in ppr

Does the David Joseph loss scare any of you? I'm still avoiding Martin. Would much rather have Hillis or Ridley and they are much cheaper. Definitely targeting Blount in the 10th/11th. Still think the staff will have a hard time sitting him if he's averaging 5.0 ypc and Martin is at 4.0

Doug "SINO" Martin. Starter In Name Only. He's got good pass protection skills, at least for a rookie, he looks to make the right reads and understands his assignments. But his plus is also his minus - He's an aggressive hard charger type player, he's overly aggressive as a runner, which I think will lead to some higher risk of injury for this kid. Watch his hamstrings and his ankles, it mattered in college, it will probably still matter in the pros. To me, this is still a legit RBBC. Kid's got balls no doubt, and the pedigree to be an all around back. But he's a rookie. They are going to pace this kid some and mix it up with Blount IMHO.
completely disagree. Teams who draft RBs in the first historically give em the load. and historically rookie do fairly well when asked to carry the load. http://thedctimes.com/2012/08/fantasy-football-notes-contract-years-mock-drafts-and-rookie-rbs/Finally, in my “According to the Data” column at RotoWire, I took a hardcore look at rookie running backs.Perhaps no late-round picks have provided the upside of rookie running backs over the past half-decade. Despite only three rookie runners getting selected in the top-20 running backs over that time, nine (Chris Johnson, Matt Forte, Kevin Smith, Steve Slaton, Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, Reggie Bush, Joseph Addai, and Maurice Jones-Drew) have finished in the top 20 by season’s end. Seven of those nine have actually finished in the top 12 running backs, making them legitimate No. 1 players at the position. How about the value of some of these picks:Chris Johnson: ADP 36, Final Rank 11Matt Forte: ADP 28, Final Rank 4Kevin Smith: ADP 30, Final Rank 18Steve Slaton: ADP 47, Final Rank 6Adrian Peterson: ADP 25, Final Rank 3Marshawn Lynch: ADP 24, Final Rank 12Joseph Addai: ADP 27, Final Rank 11Maurice Jones-Drew: ADP 62, Final Rank 8

I think Martin is going to run away with the job. He'll get 15-18 carries a game with 2-3 catches a game. Blount is simply outclassed here, and I don't think Blount sucks. I would expect Blount to get 8-10 carries a game on average; a few less some games, a few more in blowouts (if there are any).

Blount does nothing better than Martin, imo. He is at his best when he gets a full head of steam and is hard to bring down, yet he is mediocre in short yardage situations. I think his immediate acceleration is lacking and this causes too many problems if there is not an immediate hole to run through. Martin has good acceleration, runs with good pad level and power, has plenty of lateral agility, and is a good receiver.

I've got the 12th pick in my 12 teamer and I'm looking to go RB/TE, then pick up Martin at the 3.12 as my RB2.

He's my RB2 in one league. Well, unless Richardson is better.

Couldn't help it. Keeper league and they were both cheaper than I expected ($24 and $22 respectively).

Martin will likely be solid to start the season.

The concern is, as it often is with rookies, whether he'll be able sustain into the second half of the season.
