Down and Out in New England... (1 Viewer)

Well, it was a real fun year. I enjoyed every second of it, except the last minute and a half of the Super Bowl. I am proud to be a Patriots fan and I really enjoy this era of sports here. For a long time this region wallowed in mediocrity.

Even though the Pats lost, its still a lot of fun to watch your team be in it every year. There are a lot of teams who cannot say that. I hope it continues every year and I hope the Patriots can compete for the Lombardi every year.

I know a lot of people hate this team, the coach, the tactics, the winning, etc. but as a New Englander, we love it.

I am happy for the Giants. Eli takles a lot of ##### and I think it was well-deserved. Tom Coughlin used to coach at Boston College, so I have a good memories and opinions of him. The Giants really played with hunger and desire. That is a champion.

Also, I enjoyed the 19-20 week heavyweight battles about NE here. This is a great forum. See you all next year!

Well said. It looks like the Patriots might have run out of steam. It is difficult to stay hungry when you have been that successful.

I think the Pat's played a Pat's type of game, the Giants defense just played GREAT. You can't fault Brady at all he got killed all game.

:scared: You give most NFL QBs the time Brady had this season and they're going to look pretty good. Last night Brady was pressured and looked ordinary. He is a great QB but frankly I've seen other QBs face that kind of pressure and do well. He just isn't used to it.

I certainly wouldn't blame the loss on Brady but he could have played better.

The similarities between this game and the Patriots beating the mighty Rams in 2002 is just creepy.

The big test for Brady and Belichik now is if they implode like the Rams did after that devastating loss, or if they somehow regroup and come back strong. Make no mistake, that was an absolutely devastating loss. I dont know how you can hope to reassemble a team that strong and get back to that pinacle of perfection. It wouldnt be hard just to collapse into 'pretty good' for the rest of their careers, as I think almost anyone else would. But these guys seem to be cut from a different cloth. I predict next year will either be a disaster, or another trip to the SB. Not much in between I think.

Definitely a disappointing loss, but what a game by NY.

They deserved to win.

Enjoy the win Giants fans. It was well earned.

This game came down the the trenches. The Pats D played well and fought to a stalemate. The Giants D played as well as I've seen a Dline play since the Pats-Packers Super Bowl XXX1 and maybe better than that considering the opponent. Strahan would not be denied.

Nice Post

I think the Giants made the blue print that everyone was looking for all season on beating the Pats

Pressure Brady

Cover Moss, and take away the big play

Keep going at NE's old LB's

Looking forward to see how the Pat's recover from this in 08, their are a lot of great teams in the AFC

This is a majorly obvious statement, but if Ty Law was playing the Patriots win that game. Patriots DBs had multiple chances to put the game away, but failed to do so. You just cant let yourself get beat by David Tyree and Steve Smith. Cant happen.

But this is only 1/2 of it, the offense had to play well. Manning had 1 INT and that wasn't on him. They played well enough to stay in it during the game and a team finally scored to go ahead of the Patriots without enough time for the Patriots to mount a serious threat.Every game during the season where the Patriots fell behind, there was always enough time for the Patriots to score. This time with like 35 seconds left, they couldn't put together a real drive, they had to just chuck it up.

I disagree. Completely.Samuel dropped an INT that would've sealed it, sure. He isn't the first DB to do that, and won't be the last. Your statement really takes away from an outstanding effort from the Giants defense, and Manning. If Ty Law played? How about, if Brady could have scored more than 14, then they would have won?

Weak. If the Pats win you're here all off-season blowing your horn. Go hide in your hole now. :lmao:
are you serious?
He is, and he's right. Have you read any of greenline's stuff this year? Easy to take the high road now. Frankly, there's a bunch of poisters that shouldn't get off this easy. This guy is one of them.
Maybe you are right but I still like the post a lot better than the whining that we've seen after a loss...

They Patriots DBs dropped several INTs that would have basically sealed the game, or at least put the Giants in a terrible spot. I'm not taking anything away from the Giants- adding the best cornerback in football to a team is hardly a trivial adjustment. What I am saying is that the Patriots DBs did not play well. They needed maybe one more big play and the Patriots had the game under control. Manning gave them plenty of opportunities. Again- Giants made big plays, Patriots didnt. Giants deserved to win, they beat the Patriots, straight up, face to face, no question about it. I'm just pointing out where the Patriots failed to make their plays. Could easily point elsewhere, but to me those dropped ints were the most obvious.

The crazy thing is this... Despite all of the domination in the trenches by the Giants, despite the Patriots rushing for only 45 yards, despite Kevin Faulk's hamstring, despite the five sacks of Brady and the inaccuracy of his throws at the worst times, they still almost won the game :moneybag:

Had it not been for...

David Tyree's miracle catch or Eli's miracle escape
Asante Samuel's botched INT
Corey Webster's hand blocking Moss from reeling in the Hail Mary (first attempt) that would've put NE in FG position
Jay Alford's sack which changed Brady's approach to driving down the field with 3 timeouts only needing 3 points in 35 secs. Sounds unlikely, but not impossible.
Eli's read of the all out blitz putting Plaxico in single coverage on a fake slant route - not to mention he barely had both feet inbounds
Steve Smith's first down on third and long along the sidelines, which also stopped the clock when they had no timeoutsI said before, it will take a monumental game for the Giants to have a chance at winning. They did just that and the right things happened at the absolute right times to turn "that chance" into a reality. What a great game!

No ifs, ands, or buts.....the Giants kicked the Patriots butt on both sides of the ball. Patriots got whipped.

You could make this list after most of the Pats playoff wins, as well. For once, the breaks didn't go their way.

Down and out is right. It is a pretty somber mood around the office this morning.

The Giants were just the better team last night. Their effort level was great, especially on the defensive line. Those guys were incredible. Sometimes it seemed like there were 5 G-men in the backfield, then Brady would throw it to a reciever with 5 more guys around him. That defense was everywhere.

The game winning drive was one for the ages. I couldnt believe it when Manning escaped the sack and threw for the 32 yard completion. That whole sequence was incredible.

The Patriots didnt win. I was disappointed about that, but it was made easier by the Giants winning the game rather than the Patriots losing it.

With 3 TO's they had time, but a weak kickoff return and the HUGE sack by the rookie Alford forced them to chuck it up

Not sure which SB thread to post this. I guess this is as good as any. When the Patriots took the field I remember thinking to myself - this does not look like a team that wants to win, but more of a team that is worried about possibly losing. There wasn't much vigor or "happiness to be there" on Tom Brady's face. It's like they were so focused not to lose that they lost sight of trying to win. Does anyone have a clip of the player introductions?

 There were some huge plays, but two that are not mentioned much...1) the great catch Welker made behind his back snatching out of mid air for a 16 yard gain and 2) Bradshaw wrestling the fumble away to retain possession.

The announcers kepts saying how cool Brady looked. I thought he had a deer in the headlights thing going on for most of the game- i've never seen his eyes so wide. Brady just wasnt right yesterday, and you have to credit the Giants defense. They confused and beat up Tom Brady, and thats not easy to do.
