Downgrade Rodgers for redraft purposes? (1 Viewer)

In terms of strictly redraft, does this whole mess downgrade Rodgers? Is the mental pressure and distraction cause him to flounder moreso than if Favre he remained retired and the GB offseason was quiet?

And, in terms of a dynasty, could this be big enough to cause Brohm to get an earlier chance if Rodgers really struggles over the next 2 yrs?

As a former NCAA athlete myself (for whatever that's worth), my thoughts about Rodger's mental state are that the fiasco and the Packer's determination to jettison Farve should bolster Rodger's confidence. Overall, I believe the team sent Rodgers a strong message that Rodgers is their guy.

Beyond that, the pressure is relative. Even without the fiasco, Rodgers would be feeling a lot of pressure that comes to any QB taking over a team, especially following a hall of famer.

As a displaced Packer Fan I have lost allot of respect for the Packer Fans in Wisconsin throughout this whole ordeal. I saw a clip yesterday of Rodgers warming up at TC and Packer Fans chanting "We Want Brett" in the background. It looks like they will be doing everything they can to make sure Rodgers fails. I will bet some of these fans are the same fans that booed Favre his first few years in GB. The NFC North must love this, Packer fans rooting against their own team. GB fans don't deserve a winner. I would say Aaron Rodgers comes out of this as the only one with any class.

Rodgers will have a tough road ahead of him if the fans aren't behind him.

You don't think there's added pressure to show everyone that GB made the right DECISION to keep him over Brett?

At least if Brett remained retired, it was his job and he "only" had to follow in the steps of a HOF'er. Now, he has to show that he can perform better than this same HOF'er could have in the same situation. I don't know, I think he had enough pressure just following after Brett but all this, even with the support of the team, could cause him some serious problems.

There are valid arguments on both sides - in actuality, we have no idea. I'm not moving him in the dyno I own him in, but I'm not pursuing him in either of my others. As for redraft, I'm still planning to gamble on him in a league or two but only as my QB2.

Great point as well. At least with Favre retired, the fans would have backed him somewhat. Now, he may not even have that. Not every player can handle boos and lack of fan support. Some thrive on it and others crack on it. I don't know enough about Rodgers to know how he'll handle it but I would think most would do worse in this situation.

Or maybe they simply want the best QB to start given how the Packers are a legitimate Super Bowl contenders and the opportunity to get to a Super Bowl doesn't come along very often. As far as Rodgers, I have him ranked in the 15-20 range right now. I want to see him play in the preseason before I make any decisions about whether to move him up or down. So far, he hasn't handled the Favre issue well in terms of his play - he was poor in the scrimmage and his first post-Favre practice on Tuesday was awful. As a Packers fan, I'm hoping he works the jitters out and starts playing better. As a fantasy owner, I'm still intrigued by him as a QB2 given this team's offensive potential but he'll need a strong preseason for me to draft him with confidence.

I thought that was totally classless by the fans.

This is true... at least in my case. It's difficult to go from, what was inarguably, the TOUGHEST quarterback to EVER play the game..... to a guy like Rodgers who has has battled injuries with such limited duty. I don't know how anyone can pencil this guy in for 16 games.

And saying goodbye to Favre as a Packer fan after being so close to the SB last year is just... saddening Worse than the ending of "Ol Yeller".
