Draft Dominator Question for the FFA (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I want the FFA opinion and not the hardcore "do your own projections" crowd from the shark pool.

I am doing almost no work this year in preparing for my 2 FF drafts.  I have paid for the subscription and am going to use Draft Dominator.  My question is whose projections are you using and why?  The default is 35% Dodds, 35% Henry, and 15% for each of Wood and Maurile.  This seems silly to me as none of their ideas will standout.  To me, I am inclined to only use Dodds' predictions--he lives and breathes FF and I am willing to risk my season on him being wrong.  No disrespect to any of the others.

Anyone else given any thought to this?

I feel like going with any kind of consensus relegates you to median performance.  Pick someone you like and go with the hot takes.  Sure you might lose big, but you also won't win big with the consensus.

In prior seasons it felt like Henry was kicking butt with his weekly rankings so I stuck with him.  I know it probably isn't in the site's best interest, but it would be good to know which one of the experts gets it right more often than the others through the weeks.

I generally default to Maurile's because he seems super smart. That's no knock against the other two. I've just seen MT's brain in action and ... its impressive.

I don't used the dominator but use the VBD spreadsheets instead and make gut decisions as I go.  I think those are entirely based on Dodds' numbers but not sure.
I'm a VBD guy too and tricked out my excel version with a bunch of conditional formatting by position.  Makes it easier to see the trends.

So easy just to hit the UPDATE PROJECTION button and then generate the cheatsheet and then copy-paste values into my tab.
Also, on the right, I can easily enter names of the injured (show up red), ? marks, (yellow), targets (green), or rookies (boxed) and no matter how many times i re-pull the info, the colors will always re-adjust for the next iteration.

I’m on the beta test team for the draft dominator and have used it for years. Outstanding tool.
I’m of the school of thought of the using mean projections versus an individual so I actually like more input not less, to me this helps filter out individual biases about a player.
But forced to pick one person’s rankings, I’m at Matt Waldman guy.  His projections aren’t  in the draft dominator but his rankings are all over FBG’s.  Between Dodds, Henry or Maurile you really can’t go wrong. All those guys are great at what they do

I lean towards Henry and Wood.

I do exactly this. Totally trust dodds for fantasy football recommendations and almost follow him blindly. I do some of my own research for fun and to feel involved, but I figure Dodds does this for a living so I could de facto never know more than him.

Now, politics and conspiracy theories, well that’s a different story as I’d sooner listen to that dude on the Rams who thinks that dinosaurs didn’t exist.

Hey @Aaron Rudnicki, did we every get resolution on whether @Hooper31 stole the VBD concept from @Kid Charlemagne?
The prosecution presents exhibit A.

I don't believe it was KidC. I can't remember who it was. He called it AVT. We had exchanged some emails (two maybe?) about this article I wrote. Some form of credit would have been nice, but that was around 20 years ago. Both Greg Kellogg and Bob Harris (I think. Can't be sure of who it was) told me they had also written articles detailing the same concept long before I did.

Thanks for that blast from the past. I'm sure I'm not the only one around here that has a bit of a "foggy" memory. Early onset suxor. Law of ccosines? No sweat. Derivative of the inverse tangent? Got it. My brothers name? Ummm. :kicksrock:

FWIW, I use the app exactly as the defaults are set. I've known all 4 of the guys producing projections for 20+ years and they each bring certain strengths. I absolutely feel the four together are stronger than just 1. BUT, we give flexibility there.

On a much much much bigger point, thanks for being an app purchaser or a premium subscription buyer. We've never had a year with this much of a hit to revenue and you folks are why we're here. Thanks.

Hey @Joe Bryant, any possibility of bringing back the 3yr subscription?  Would give you a boost to 2020 revenue.  I loved it because it usually came with a little discount (perhaps the reason it went away), but also because it was less of a pain to renew every three years versus every year.

Thank you for the offer but we're not able to do that. It's essentially just borrowing money at a high cost for us and it's not something that made sense for our business. I do get the pain of renewing and we may try to work that out for next year to make it easier. Thanks for being part of Footballguys!
