Draft Dominator - What Am I Missing? (1 Viewer)

Geekjock

Footballguy
I'm a current user of the Draft Dominator. I think I know how to use it. I've been in 5 drafts using it already this season. What I'm not getting is, what's the real analytical value of it? What am I missing?

Here's what I do like about it -

* It's a quick reference for who's still available at every position

* It shows some VBD information

* I can easily rate my team after the draft is over

That's all pretty good, but I feel like there's something else I'm missing that people claim helps them "dominate" their draft.

Really, the info above, all except the rate my team function I already track on a running spreadsheet. The difference being, my spreadsheet actually holds my rankings instead of the footballguys.com rankings. So the regular spreadsheet is in a way more valuable to me during the draft, just to see how I have my tiers playing out.

Also, I haven't seen that the player pick prediction has been terribly accurate either. I'm using "Consensus" ADP list for mocks for all the other teams. Is there a better setting?

Someone help me recognize what I'm overlooking with this tool.

Thanks

1. You can import your projections into the DD.2. Shows ADP.3. Gives your multiple methods to assess "value" (various VBD baselines plus DVBD)4. Mock draft feature to practice drafts and play with different strategies prior to your actual draft5. Your projections can be tweaked in terms of different league scoring at the touch of a button6. A lot of this information gets updated very regularly

Using your own rankings is pretty key in getting the most out of the application.

If you don't import your rankings then the during the draft I find that the most important window is "Team Stats". Actually this is the most important window even if you do import your own rankings. It is an ideal way to track how many players have been taken at each position, see where teams are lacking strength at what position and identifying positional runs before they occur. If used well it will allow you to start positional runs and, to a degree, manipulate your entire draft.

 This is very useful when picking at 2,3,4 or 7,8,9 in a 10 player draft. If it's round 8 and you have a hard choice between a WR who you think has dropped way too far and that TE that you really like, then you look at the roster of the 3 players behind you who are picking twice, if they all have a TE already but a couple still don't have their 3WR, you take the WR knowing that it's very likely your TE will be there on the way back. If you don't have this info, you may be inclined to take the TE and then watch 4 more WR's come off the board in the next 6 picks.

In a snake draft, DD is most useful at the corners, when it makes it easier to track what other teams are likely to take before your next pick. It also makes it more obvious which position is currently offering the most value. If you have your own projections, you have to use them in DD, otherwise it's not doing much for you.

In an auction, DD is amazingly valuable to track max remaining bids and dynamic auction value (based on $ spent so far vs. projections), even if you're using default projections.

Let's not forget built in Depth Charts, addition of SoS, Find Complimentary Player Feature, the GameByGame how am I doing look, and the ability to look at points for players and teams on a weekly basis.

(BTW - nice avatar CalBear - I think I stole mine from you) :blackdot:

Since we're on the subject of DD, can someone explain how the "best value pick" window works. Should I use the auto look ahead function, or should I manually input a certain amount of spots to look ahead? What is the use custum dropoff function? Should I check the box? If so, what values should I pick from the drop down menu for each position?

Being able to track each of the other teams in your league is huge. Knowing if the guys after you are full at a position is unvaluable in determining if there will be a run at a position after your pick.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I'll have to figure out how to get my own rankings imported into the software and give it another try on my draft this Thursday. That may make things very different as you've all pointed out. I'll have to check out those other features.

Quick note - I do get that it's useful on the corners, and forgot that I was able to use that the last time I drafted from the 3 slot.

:lmao: Thanks!

*** Disregard, will post in the correct forum ***

Last question - You guys talk about importing your rankings. The only thing I'm finding is changing the projections in the setup menu. That seems really tedious from an AVT standpoint where I basically just want to say - take a bunch of fantasy point values/projections, lay them on the table for each position, and I'll assign the player who I think will most likely finish with said values/projections based on my rankings. Anyone suggest an easier method than changing the projections of each player?

This sounds similar to what I do. I use the VBD spreadsheet to manipulate the player scoring then import that sheet into the DD.
