What % Of All Fantasy Managers Rely Heavily On League Platform Rankings When Drafting?

Thanks for voting. Can you elaborate on why you don't thing fantasy GMs follow the suggested rankings on the platforms?

My 20+yr league is too good and slick to use the rankings... Perhaps as it tails to the much later rounds they look at it more, but for the first 2/3 there is little/no way any of us care about the rankings provided by a website. I usually look when it's my turn just to see how far off the guy I'm targetting is from the top, and laugh.

Thanks. But I'm asking for your guess on all leagues everywhere. Not just you and your league.

Because any league worth a damn wishes it was our league - thus, via emulation, they don't look at pre-set rankings.

But seriously, I assume with the insane amount of information out there, the majority of people who play fantasy "think" they know the info that will make them the league winner... And it's a stiff question anyways, because for the first 4-5+ rounds, merely by just sheer obviousness, every league will look like they're sticking to the rankings.... I have to assume it only really takes a turn around rnd 8 or so.

But unless you're a true novice, playing just to play, then I don't think pre-set rankings affect your gameplan much

I was assuming redraft leagues and voted 50-59%. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was higher. In my experience, there are many friendly leagues that have casual players that don’t follow the off-season news closely and so use the default rankings. Add in the auto drafters, and the ones that drop from the draft after the first 10 rounds and it adds up.

Define rely heavily? For my own evaluation of players, not at all.

For my draft strategy? Quite a bit, on the assumption that most people are at least a little influenced by where a guy is ranked and therefore the impact it'll have on ADP.

In my main league, I'm always surprised every year as to how savvy the group by in large is.

If you've been playing with a bunch of guys for awhile, and the league is active/engaged, I find that pretty much everyone has an innate sense of upside/value and will use the rankings as a guide but will see the ADP data with a lens on the trend versus a static data point.

But not for you. I'm looking for what people think other GMs do across all fantasy football leagues.

And by "rely" I mean as I said above, that you use it to guide your next draft pick.

I mean it needs to be 100% then. Both camps (people using it to predict where league mates are likely to take guys and people who actually use it as their rankings) use the default thing for pretty much every pick in some way.

We're filling out a board on the wall and later inputting it into the site. These guys just typically use the ESPN list (while I roll in with my own 8.5 x 11 tiers that I took from my spreadsheet).
That’s how my home league is run.

I do allow laptops. I should charge them for WiFi access.

For years I had a color coded binder with individual lists of player names & a master list of my rankings.

Now I just use the DD out of laziness, but I do adjust the rankings and create short lists between picks.
Yeah, I roll old school in our 25 year old redraft league too. I have my rankings and mark off the players as picked. Just enjoy doing it that way. Probably 10 of the 14 players draft off the app and 5-6 of those are usually lost by round 5. Kind of funny. We do put the picks up on the big screen vs using the CBS sheet so that the ones that are lost can walk up and see who is still on the board. I just shake my head and make fun of them as I sip some good tequila. It's a fun league but definitely not full of "sharks".

When I draft on-line, I definitely don't draft by the site's listed ADPs, especially FFPC. I think they are way off in some instances, which can work to your advantage. For instance, JSN is about 5 spots ahead of Nico Collins, which I find off. Would much rather have Nico. But that's me.
What’s funny is that while I’m much more efficient now, and never miss a pick (I do live entry to the DD) I haven’t won a league since I switched up my methods.

More likely this is dumb luck and coincidence, but it does make it tempting to go back to my color-coded binder. I just hate walking up to the player lists and not finding a guy because I missed crossing him off 7 rounds before. Embarrassing.

A couple of guys in my auction league always print out the same values generated by Yahoo. Pretty easy to tell who they are going to bid too much on.
