When do you establish your draft order? Do you do it on the day of the draft, or do you do it in advance of your draft? If you do it in advance, how far in advance do you do it?

I don't think it really matters, but I like doing it just a few minutes before the draft, just to add some more excitement to draft day. Unless your league is into trading draft picks, in which case I'd go about a week or so in advance of the draft.

My league gets together for an offseason owners meeting every May. We discuss proposals for rule changes and etc, then pull draft order from a hat.

We've found that it really helps makes the offseason a little less painful, plus gives everyone lots of time to plan/trade picks/etc.

Same here...at the owner's meeting in April or May.

We just picked ours yesterday. We always pick the order on the first day of Eagles camp. Picking 12th this year. I'm not too excited about that.

We usually pick about a month before the draft. But we have a unique style and we randomly draw the order for which each person selects their draft position. So the first name drawn gets their choice of picks 1-12, and so forth until the last person is stuck with whatever pick is leftover (usually 8 or 9). It makes it more interesting. We allow trading of picks, so that's why we do it so far in advance.

We have a BBQ on the saturday of 4th of July weekend and pick the order out of a hat, its tradition at this point . From there it gives the league 2 months to prepare.

It's really pretty random when we pick, but I always prefer knowing sooner than later. Like this year!!! If you don't get top 3 it's better to draft low.

We usually pick and post it 2 weeks before the draft, which would be today. However this year we are weeding out owners that did not pay last year,or moved away. So, I'm expecting new members and draft order next Sat. at the latest. That will give us 1 week to prepare.

We have a very interesting way to determine draft order. We bid $$ and have a blind chinese auction to determine the draft order. All of the blind bids are turned into our commish about a week before the draft. The draft order is then revealed.

The chinese auction bidding gets more money in the overall pot. We also throw in some incentives to bid more $$. The rounds for the draft are not normal serpentine.....

and finishes rest of 16 rounds as serpentine.

I always outbid everyone else in the league because I not only want the first pick, I want the 13th pick and 4 of the first 37 picks! I have had LT2 on my team the past 2 seasons and won each year. I have always selected a RB with the 13 pick that ends up being a bust (Kevin Jones, Fraud Taylor) This year I am looking stud WR with the 13th......

Any suggestions? Thoughts on this style of draft?

Anybody know of a site that produces a random order without having the results mailed out? For example, the site assigns a number to teams 1-12.
