Just wanted to thank whoever posted this link way back when.

I'm hoping to get my league to abandon the same old serpentine draft and do Random Every Other Round. This knocks the old serpentine draft on its ###, mixing things up so every two rounds, you're picking in a different slot.

The aim is to minimize those picking high in the first by not necessarily giving them that high third-rounder that really makes the traditional serpentine draft unfair IMO.

The downside is someone could get royally screwed by that.

It all adds up mathematically. you'd only get royally screwed if you did Random EVERY Round.

Just did a test and, as an example, a team ended up w/ #2, 19, 27, 34. 45, 56, 61, 80

It adds up the same as if it was #2, 19, 22, 39, 42, 59, 62, 79

An auction with a salary cap eliminates all of this unfairness.

My league uses a similar take on the OP's idea:

1st round is based on finish in 2006 (worst = 1.01, champ= 1.10)

2nd round is 'optional franchise' player (basically worth keeping if you have a top25 player)

3/4 (ex. I have 3.02 and 4.09)

18th round is your "free" keeper (from rd7+ in 2006)

We drew Ace through 10 in cards for each set of rounds, we didnt just use a RNG.
