Anyone see what happened? Is he okay? Should we be picking up Romo?

No, you should play your 2nd qb for one week if necessary.....concussion will not be a season long injury!

If you got a player or DT to get rid of ..of course pick up Romo..if Bledsoe is your starting QB..which some do have...odd but happens!

Until he gets hit again in the head. One concussion tends to lead to more.

It was a helmet to helmet hit on a busted play where Drew bobbled the snap and then dove forward and was hit in the head.

He finished the drive but was ineffective ultimately throwing an interception on a play where he missed the handoff to Jones and then threw a really strange pass right to the Minnesota LB.

He went to the sidelines and was given some balance tests and he looked really unsteady doing them.

Cowboys | Bledsoe shaken up

Thu, 31 Aug 2006 18:13:34 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Drew Bledsoe (head) left the team's preseason finale Thursday evening, Aug. 31, after taking a hard shot on a fumbled snap. The team doctors are worried about his current condition so he will not return to the game. QB Tony Romo took his place in the lineup.

he got rocked after the snap was premature and he dove forward to get the first down. EJ Henderson buried his head into the ground on a helmet to helmet smack. Bledsoe stayed in the game for the next few snaps till his INT on a broken play at the goalline. It looked to me like Romo was slated for the next series anyhow. At any rate the coaching staff was talking to Bledsoe on the sidelines and such, but he looked like he just got his bell rung pretty good and should be ok.

If you don't have much behind Bledsoe you might want to have Romo stashed away anyway.

It wouldn't surprise me if Bledsoe got Bradyed again this season.

These new board members are killing me.
Well, if your referring to me, I'm not new. In fact, you joined a grand total of 9 days before me.Second, depending on the severity of a concussion, it can be nothing, and it can be career ending. Thats why I'm asking of anyone knows teh severity...

No. Concussions don't keep players out for very long.

It depends on your roster size of course. But yes I think Romo is a good Qb handcuff to have. The Cowgirls look to have a pretty good passing offense this year even without TO and obviously much better with TO. The Oline is still not that great. I think this will hurt the running game moreso than the passing game while simultaniously forcing the cowgirls to pass the ball more.

Bledsoe has been one of the more durable Qbs in the league throughout his career despite never being a very mobile Qb. Even so he could still get injured and I think Romo would put up decent numbers as his replacement.

So yeah I think Romo is a Qb worth picking up/rostering.

Hes not quite as intruiging as Shuab, Garrard, Leinart or Vince Young but after them I think Romo is one of the more promising backup Qbs available.

gbill2004,Your concern is understandable, but just be advised, a career threatening concussion only happens after a history of mutliple concussions ala` Troy Aikman, Chris Miller etc.I don't think Bledsoe has any gremultipleat history of multiple or a long line of interspersed concussions. He should be A-Ok.

Hey Guys,What I sent to the guys on the email list. This could be the golden opportunity Romo (and Parcells) have been looking for:

Hi Folks,Just a quick headsup for any of you crazies drafting at 10 pm Eastern on a Thursdaynight...Dallas QB Drew Bledsoe took a pretty ugly looking shot to the helmet after a muffedsnap. A few plays later, he was obviously confused on the field as he turned thewrong way on a play attempting a hand off to a RB that wasn't there. He circledaround and lofted a really strange looking pass right to the Vikings linebacker. He left the game and was being given balance tests for a concussion on thesidelines. The team hasn't made an official statement yet but it did look like he'dsuffered a concussion.Tony Romo took over after Bledsoe left.[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ OUR VIEW ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]First thing - we don't know for sure right now what Bledsoe's injury situation is.This could be one of those things where he's fine tomorrow or it might be somethingthat lingers. Bledsoe is entering his 14th season and everyone knows the youngerguys bounce back more quickly than the older players. Of course, everyone remembersBledsoe losing his job to injury in New England years ago when he was replaced by ayoung QB named Tom Brady. We're not saying Tony Romo is Tom Brady but Romo is way more than the averagebackup QB. As you'll remember, there was quite a bit of buzz early in the preseasonthat Romo was being groomed to be the starter for Week 1. Jerry Jones nixed thatidea saying the team wanted the experience of Bledsoe but obviously, a Bledsoeinjury could change everything. So what's the bottom line? It's that I'm raising Tony Romo on my lists and droppingBledsoe. Concussions are always serious. Concussions for 34 year old QBswho're looking for a nice life after football can be extremely serious. Romo haslooked outstanding against vanilla preseason defenses so far and looks to be theguy of the future there. I'm saying if this concussion is serious, the future mightbe accelerated.More as we hear it.J**********************

Tell that to Merrill Hoge.
Or Steve Young or Troy Aikman....Guy like Bledsoe (and Young and Aikman) are set financially and are looking very strongly at quality of life for the next 50 year or so.

I have Brooks as my started in a start 1 QB league, 16 team. My backup is Alex Smith. Should I drop Smith for Romo?

Hey Joe.Am I wrong in thinking that concussions being career ending, usually happens to players that have a somewhat concussion laden injury history?

If I'm correct, does Drew fit the profile with an injury history of multiple concussions?

One concussion is nothing. I don't know how many it takes before anyone should start to worry (three?), but it's more than one. I had two in college and the training staff didn't care. (Maybe they just didn't like me.)

more then likely it was because it was the 1950's :)

Hi BS,Sure, they're always worse after a series.

But this situation is different with Romo champing at the bit. In other words, a mildly sprained ankle might be career ending for Bledsoe in this situation.

Think how it might work:

Bledsoe winds up having a pretty serious concussion. He's a smart guy, he's not going to risk brain trauma at the end of his career when he has his whole life ready to start after football. So he sits a week.

Romo starts week 1 and throws for 325 with 125 to T.O. and 2 TD's. Looks great. T.O. raves that it's hard to believe because he's so young, but Romo is the best QB he's ever played with. Romo to T.O. is the hottest story in sports heading into week 2.

Bledsoe is done.

It could happen. That's all I'm saying.

J

All concussion talk aside I am just amazed at how much playing time Romo has gotten this preseason and he has looked poised and sharp almost at all times.

I hope I am not imagining this but I am sold that Romo has what it takes to be a great qb in the future.

That's certainly a strong possibility. Romo has looked real good so far. Nice arm and good poise.

From CBS Sportsline:

"If you're one of those thinking Romo will start over Bledsoe, you're a fool and a puppet of media hype. Romo is nothing more than a low-end backup QB for the deepest of Fantasy leagues. Ignore him on Draft Day unless you're in a really deep league that has enough reserve spots to handcuff QB picks."

I love these guys.

Right or not, I love the fact that they use the phrase "you're a fool" in the snippet of advice they have for fantasy league subscribers"

Someone else on the boards put it perfectly after the Travis Henry news came out - getting your FF news from CBS Sportsline is like getting headline news from the Onion.

I see exactly what you're saying now Joe. Good point.

For those saying Romo has looked good, pls keep in mind that Ds always play straight up, no tricks during the preseason. It's especially difficult (and dangerous) to extrapolate inexperienced QB play from the preseason into the regular season.

He's thrown some decent numbers up tonight. He could be amazing in the regular season, but keep it conservative until/if we see him in Jax.

If you rewatch it, They showed Bledsoe getting the balance test. didnt look good. he was rocked.

Looked like he just drank about 20 beers.

FWIW, Parcells didn't seem concerned about Bledsoe after the game. Said he knew where he was and didn't sound at all like he thought it was serious.

We'll know more tomorrow.

A large steel beam could fall out of the Texas stadium ceiling and hit Drew Bledsoe on the head. It could happen. That's all I'm just saying.

IF Bledsoe is hurt, THEN Romo plays. Otherwise, Bledsoe provides this team with the best possibility to go to the Superbowl, period.

Post-game radio interview with Romo - not talking at all about the possibility of Romo starting, just discussing his performance tonight, his contract situation, etc.
