Drew Brees - "Nobody Trusts" the Commish (1 Viewer)

Drew Brees needs to shut up. Tired of hearing him whine all the time about his contract, the commissioner, or whatever. Have some accountability for getting caught cheating the salary cap.

Aaron Rodgers was asked about the Brees comment yesterday and whether that was a sentiment echoed by and large around the league or if it was perhaps some sediment revolving all the Commissioner-related activities towards the Saints this offseason.

Rodgers said he thought it was the latter, that Brees was just a bit too close to the situation, and that he (Rodgers) thinks the Commissioner has done a great job protecting the health and safety of players, particularly defenseless players.

Brees is entitled to his opinion but it doesn't sound like its a universal one.

Saints too? Thought it was only DAL and WAS.
the payment by people with-in the organization for performance (the bounties) was considered to circumvent the cap
Ahhh, but the fact that Brees is not suspended would indicate that he was not found to be involved. Why should he then hold himself accountable?

His team is being held accountable as they should be. He should shut up and stop criticizing the commissioner for coming down hard on them for cheating.

That's the thing, no cheating was involved. You're very confused.

I used to like Brees a lot, but I'm not quite as enamored with him these days for some reason.
Starting to feel the same way about Brees. It is funny he was quiet as a church mouse until he got his new deal.
?The guy did an interview with Sports Illustrated. And, he didn't even talk about the Saints suspensions as a reason for what he said. As a member of the executive committee of the Players Association, he was asked how others felt about the commish and he answered what he thought was the general sentiment. You say he used to be quiet but now he's talking a lot? What else has he been saying other than defending his teammate/coaching staff when it's come up?

Circumventing the salary cap is cheating. I'm not confused.

IIRC the saints and raiders came under question about the whole "uncapped" year fiasco but only was & dallas were penalized
Oakland was also penalized. I think a 4th team as well.

:confused:He was one of the named plaintiffs and main players advocating for the NFLPA during the lockout. And while Rodgers did say he though Goodell was doing good things for player safety (and said he liked it because he has had concussions), that was the lone positive he referred to. He actually made a quip about "except for the CBA thing" which is probably a big deal, considering the CBA is where Goodell is stealing his power.

Even if all of the players hated Goodell with all of their hearts, I fail to see how it matters. Its sort of like if department managers at Target didn't like the CEO there...tough beans.

Brees is a great player, but he is very similar to all of the rest of the players in that he is one hit away from being irrelevant in terms of the NFL. Players are nothing more than highly paid pawns...take them away and the game still goes on.

Drew should just shut up already and focus on what he's good at, which is being a stat-chasing whore who supplies us with fantasy goodness.

Drew Brees might be trying to soft-pedal his comments about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but he’s far from alone in his feelings about the league’s authority. In fact, Goodell’s visit to Bears camp yesterday seemed to stir up more hard feelings.‘‘Yeah, things are bad,’’ Bears cornerback D.J. Moore told Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. ‘‘It’s like dictators, you know. You know, in America, we really don’t believe in them.’’Brees stirred the pot by saying “Nobody trusts him,” in regards to Goodell’s role in player discipline, although he tried to turn the heat back yesterday. When Goodell visited the Bears practice Wednesday afternoon, he said he hadn’t seen Brees’ comments (which seems hard to imagine), and when asked about Moore’s “dictator” remark, Goodell “snickered,” according to Cowley.‘‘When there are things that are going to impact on the integrity of the league and are going to violate very core principals, including player safety, I will be involved,’’ Goodell said. That was moments after he discussed an 18-game schedule, which drew even more harsh words from the Bears.‘‘Bull [expletive], no, hell no. Hell no. [Expletive] no, [Expletive] no,’’ Bears cornerback Charles Tillman said of the 18-game topic.Apparently Tillman’s not a fan of the idea, just as many players are banding together, with Goodell as a common enemy they can agree on.

there was a lot of bad blood between players and management before the bounty scandal. the way goodell handled it hasn't made any him any new friends either.

that said, this is not much of a surprise.

There's nothing NO can do. It's done and they were made the scapegoat. Why? We'll never know. The bounty system has been in place since I played Pop Warner leagues. Difference is back then, and in college, you got stickers to put on your helmet. Now in the pros, you get cash. Same thing, big hit, get a reward.

These idiotic players agreed to the dictatorship during negotiations last year. They should learn to negotiate a little better next time instead of #####ing after the fact.

I don't think they were made a scapegoat. They were directly asked to stop their bounty program, but they continued to lie, mislead, and cover it up. They were given a chance to right their wrong, but they showed a total disregard and disrespect for the league by continuing the bounties, and they deserve exactly what they got.

I agree. This was said in response to a specific question in the interview about how other players felt. I thought he did a great job responding to questions about what he said. Refused to talk more about it, indicating there would only be more said about it if he needed to speak with Goodell.

He was named as a plaintiff, along with von Miller, Brady, etc as a strategy. they wanted vet, high-profile players, young players, and players with recent and ongoing contract issues in the suit so that they could bring a loght to issues. He agreed to be a plaintiff, but he didn't ramrod it. He was ok with other things. He actually said "except for the CBA thing"...the other stuff was positive. And the "CBA thing" is really rediculous to gripe about because it is the player's association's responsibility to NOT agree to it if they didn't like it. Rodgers was poking the wrong cage on that one. Its HIS player's association he should be upset with, not Gooodell.
