2010 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. This year, we plan to publish more than 140 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints

Player Page Link: Drew Brees Player Page

Each article will include:

[*]Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member

[*]Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads

[*]FBG Projections

[*]Consensus Member Projections

The Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

[*]Focus commentary on the player (or players) in question, and your expectations for said player (or players)

[*]Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"

[*]Avoid redundancies or  ... this should be about incremental analysis or debate

While not a requirement, we strongly encourage you to provide your own projections for the player (players):

Projections should include:

[*]For QBs: Attempts, Completions, Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Attempts, Rush Yards, Rush TDs

[*]For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

[*]For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

Now let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

Brees is on top of his game. The Saints have a favorable passing matchup this season and I can't see a healthy Brees throw for less than 4500 yards in a 16 game season.

4501 yards, 34 td's 14 int's

Drew Brees is at the top of his game. He is extremely accurate, has a very quick release, and a multitude of weapons at his disposal. The only thing that could slow down the Brees train is for his team to take another step forward on defense and look to slow down the game some. I don't think that scenario is likely however.

Look at the stats:

05 - 16 gms 323 out of 500 64.6% 3576 yds 7.2 ypa 24 TDs 15 ints and 1 rushing TD

06 - 16 gms 356 out of 554 64.2% 4418 yds 8.0 ypa 26 TDs 11 ints

07 - 16 gms 443 out of 655 67.6% 4428 yds 6.8 ypa 28 TDs 18 ints and 1 rushing TD

08 - 16 gms 413 out of 635 65.0% 5069 yds 8.0 ypa 34 TDs 17 ints

09 - 15 gms 363 out of 514 70.6% 4388 yds 8.5 ypa 34 TDs 11 ints and 2 rushing TDs

Amazing accuracy a year ago with over 70% completions and 8.5 ypa. What most consider to be the WR4 for the Saints is Lance Moore and he caught 79 passes for 928 yards and 10 TDs in 2008. Two very good receiving RBs, four good WRs and they even added a talented rookie TE in case Shockey gets injured again.

Only downside is his ADP, If you want to nab Brees you have to commit to an early QB pick, but you get such consistency its worth the consideration.

Drew Brees 16 gms 400 comp 600 attempts 66.7% 4800 yards 8.0 ypa 30 TDs 12 ints and 30 rushing yards and a TD
