I found this article pretty interesting....from a former players perspective on how easy it is for NFL'ers to use drugs during the season. Thought I'd pass it along:

"Pretty remarkable what a select few of us individuals can do when you think about it. Marijuana every morning - even a line or two before games. How about two Percocet, one Vicodin? Want a team doctor to give you a shot of Toradol, a powerful painkiller administered via needle that blocks pain receptors, lasts two days and (the best part) is pretty trippy to play on? No problem."

I've been amazed at how little the league seems to care about recreational drug use compared to PED's. I don't know if it's fear over the stigma of being a roided up league or they know how many players would be in trouble if they took drug use seriously. My guess is that the latter is a more important issue to them. If the public knew how many guys were smoking, snorting and shooting they'd be shocked and outraged.

It's a joke in the NFL, and everyone knows it. The players know when they are going to be tested, and they only need to be clean for a month or two. Is it a big deal? No, because so many use, it 'aint much of an advantage anymore.

the one thing to take from it is if a player actually gets busted they are either A) Mind-numbingly stupid or B) Hopelessly addicted and in need of serious help (assuming its not weed, in which case see A.).

I think practically everything to do with drug testing in the NFL has to do with public relations damage control. The NFL's customers know that players are going to use PEDs, but they'd rather believe that the product they're paying for is by and large a clean product. In order to create that illusion, the league has to have a drug testing policy in place so that it appears that they're concerned about it and opposed to it. But in reality, they (the owners) don't really care. And why would they?

It's a good painkiller, but the point is that you're not going to get high off of it, so there's no reason to abuse it. It's in the same drug category as Advil, used for pain and inflammation. Until a few months ago it was the only NSAID available by injection. I'm not sure if it's against league rules to use it prior to/during games, but it might be.

It's a good painkiller, but the point is that you're not going to get high off of it, so there's no reason to abuse it. It's in the same drug category as Advil, used for pain and inflammation. This was my point. It's not an opiate painkiller. Nobody crushes up Aspirin or Advil to get a euphoric high... it's simply a long-acting, highly potent, (and I'm assuming) highly effective painkiller.
