Dwyer fell in the draft because of a couple reasons I think (1 Viewer)

This was a coment from the Steelers Director.

"This kid's had 1,300 yards in each of the last two years," said Kevin Colbert, the Steelers' director of football operations. "He's a big kid, with deceptive speed and productivity. And again as a junior you still think he hasn't reached his full potential yet."

Maybe I'm wrong but I think this kid could still improve to be fantasy relevant.
OK, but seriously, what's the guy who just drafted him supposed to say? Probably not "well he's probably a turd, but why not? Every other NFL team passed him over till the 6th round - taking the gimmic RBs (slot, wildcat, returner guys) - and I guess we need to figure out how to replace FWP's roster spot somehow. Plus I wanted to get home to the family after the 3 day event."

Barring a serious injury to Mendy, I can't see this guy becoming relevant. Maybe if Mendy was 29 yrs old. And I doubt getting stuck on the kickoff or punt cover team will do much for his motivation, especially if he couldn't get motivated for the biggest inverview/combine (and subsequent payday) of his entire life.
Any chance your disdain for this kid jumped up a couple notches after he was drafted by Pitt?Seriously, it' not like the Steelers are shouting from the mountaintops that they stole this guy. Colbert simply said that he has some things going for him that are "deceptive" and that they expect that he hasn't reached his peak yet. It sounds like they are willing to watch him develop. If he was hurt he will heal. If he got no blocking lessons he will get them. He was in a "gimmick" offense and yet impressed people with inside running and breaking tackles. It doesn't sound like he is going to be ready this year, but next year or maybe another year he might just be. If you have a 6th rnder and patience then this is the guy for you.
no. i'd feel the same way if he was drafted by Zona behind Wells or NYJ behind Greene, maybe even DEN behind Moreno (not so sure about that one though) plus about 28 other NFL teams. sure i hate the steelers, like any real CLE fan - that just goes w/ the territory.and I'm not saying he's going to be a bust, b/c it's not technically possible since he only cost a 6th round pick. there's only upside for the steelers IF he can somehow get on the field and then stay there (b/c he's actually a NFL quality RB). bottom line is this guy plummeted down draft boards, not just fell a round or two. i'm sure there's more to it than ADD meds and a lack of pass rush blocking experience.

Why? That's why Nate Davis fell last year (Learning Disorder). Myron Rolle dropped to the end of the 6th because he was a Rhodes scholar. There are all sorts of stupid reasons why players fall because teams are constantly looking for whats wrong with a player rather than what is right. Sometimes it's justified and other times it isn't.

Davis and Rolle don't really help any argument, because we don't know how they will do. The best player in recent memory that Dwyer supporters should to is Michael Turner- who was initially thought of by many as a solid round 2-4 prospect but slipped to the end of round 5- he was passed over many times by many teams that needed a rb. I wouldn't be shocked if he has a Turner like career, because Dwyer has looked great at times. The flip side is he came to the combine in a near gelatinous state, measured terribly and has ADD - clearly that turned some people off.

i think your post = buyer's remorse.that said, you're only a Mendy ACL away from something (though what that is we all need to see on the field).another UGA RB fell to the 6th round, but he was drafted by skeletor and was injured his sr. season. maybe there's some hidden karma there.
Dwyer went to Tech. UGA sucks.
Yeah, we suck so much we always beat your dumb assess....get a real campusThere are some things to like about dwyer but he scares me. He disappeared in some games including their bowl game and that concerns me

I guess in some ways I am more hoping Dwyer turns out to be a Ryan Grant or a Pierre Thomas. Guys that are not drafted or not drafted very high. Stay behind the scenes then once they get the chance they take it and run with it.

Not having a bull dozer hurt the Steelers' production last season. Chances are good that either Red or Dwyer will suit up as the short yardage back in 2010.Honestly, Dwyer might have a hard time earning much PT this season unless he is highly motivated and learns to block. You don't trust your franchise QB's ribs to a rookie that can't pick up a blitz. His rushing ability would have to be ADP like to overcome poor blocking technique.
Not having a good OL and poor play calling and formations in the run game is what hurt the Steelers. Don't be surprised if Dwyer lands on the PS this year.

You can't make this stuff up sometimes.
