[DYNASTY] 2009 Rookie Class (1 Viewer)

Now that the fantasy season is over and the offseason has officially began, I've begun looking forward to the 2011 draft class and outside of the top tier of WRs, I'm just not impressed at all. It made me begin to wonder about the strength of past draft classes and how this one stacked up. I remembered 2009 being particularly strong, so I went back in some of my leagues and looked at the drafts. Wow, was that draft class great. Of the consensus top 13-14 picks, really only one can be considered a bust (DHB) and beyond those picks there have been some real gems. One of the other amazing things about that class is how quickly a large number of them were contributing on fantasy teams. Then you look at this year's production and we have a large number of these guys as high level starters.

I'm going to list them below with where they finished in 2010 and their points per game in a PPR league. It's important to note their PPG numbers as some of these guys missed games and would've finished the year higher had they played all 16 games (Stafford, Moreno, Britt, Nicks, Harvin, Collie) .

QB

Matthew Stafford (QB42 - 19.95)

Mark Sanchez (QB18 - 16.441)

Josh Freeman (QB10 - 19.434)

RB

Knowshon Moreno (RB18 - 15.392)

Chris Wells (RB63 - 4.931)

LeSean McCoy (RB3 - 19.947)

Donald Brown (RB48 - 7.862)

Shonn Greene (RB43 - 7.773)

Rashad Jennings (RB42 - 9.092)

Mike Goodson (RB38 - 8.388)

Arian Foster (RB1 - 24.738) - I know he wasn't drafted in most leagues, but he was in a couple of my devy leagues

WR

Michael Crabtree (WR36 - 10.319)

Percy Harvin (WR20 - 14.75)

Hakeem Nicks (WR8 - 19.246)

Jeremy Maclin (WR14 - 14.375)

Kenny Britt (WR33 - 14.625)

Mike Thomas (WR27 - 11.462)

Austin Collie (WR35 - 18.989)

Mike Wallace (WR9 - 15.6)

Johnny Knox (WR32 - 11.075)

TE

Brandon Pettigrew (TE8 - 10.45)

So, it begs the question....was 2009 the greatest rookie draft class ever? Which past classes can compare?

I don't know...I prefer the 2008 draft class, especially at RB:

Matt Ryan - QB10

Joe Flacco - QB14

Chad Henne - QB23

RB: #2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12 just as the top guys, plus more.

Felix Jones - RB23

Yeah, those RBs are ridiculous. Ourside of DeSean though, those WRs are meh at best. The 2009 strength is clearly with their WRs IMO, but the RBs have a ton of unrealized potential as well. I think I still prefer 2009.

Way too early to judge the 09' class. Most of those players you listed have shown some hope but are definitely not locks to be stars or even very good.In a couple more years the fringe guys could all end up trash then the class doesn't look very good.

For me unrealized potential is almost as bad as being a complete bust. For various reasons guys like beanie, brown, and jennings haven't lived up to expectations. When you've spent a first on a player "unrealzed potential" doesn't mean squat. Bottom liine is he hasn't produced for you like you wanted him to.

Besides, he left off a few undrafted WRs from 2008 on his list. You could make a pretty good WR core from the following:Steve Johnson - WR11DeSean Jackson - WR16Mario Manningham - WR17Davone Bess - WR23Pierre Garcon - WR31Danny Amendola - WR30Earl Bennett - WR60Combined with 7 of the top 12 RBs from this year, that class was ridiculous.
