[Dynasty] 2016 Draft Class (2 Viewers)

Rotoworld:

O.J. Howard - TE - Crimson Tide

Alabama junior tight end O.J. Howard "has not lived up to the hype" but still "runs like a gazelle" and retains upside, writes ESPN's Alex Scarborough.

"If anything, the anticipation for his emergence as one of the league’s best tight ends has increased," Scarborough wrote. "If Howard becomes the safety valve for Jake Coker or whoever ends up starting under center, his numbers could skyrocket." The analyst also believes Howard's targets will increase greatly with Amari Cooper in the NFL. "In the case of Howard, splitting him out wide at receiver could be the answer," he wrote. "Then again, maybe he needs to have more short passes thrown his way where he can run after the catch. But whatever it is, you get the sense that there has to be an answer out there."

Rotoworld:

Braxton Miller - QB - Buckeyes

ESPN's Steve Muench believes a position change will help Ohio State graduate QB/H-back Braxton Miller's draft position because he "didn't project as an early-round quarterback despite his considerable talents."

"There were concerns about his erratic accuracy, his ability to read the field and his fit within a pro-style scheme. Making matters worse, at 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, he's a bit lean to play quarterback -- and he already has taken a pounding because of his playing style, suffering two labrum injuries to his throwing shoulder," Muench wrote. It's not known exactly how OSU will use Miller in 2015, but he explained his new position as H-back, and we predict he'll be used as Urban Meyer used Aaron Hernandez at Florida. "He's so good with the ball in his hands that the Buckeyes likely will get him plenty of carries as a hybrid running back/receiver. In fact, his long-term future could be at running back," Muench wrote. "If he's able to stay healthy, Miller could work his way into the third or fourth round." Former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, you'll recall, went in the fifth round in 2013.

Rotoworld:

Daniel Lasco - RB - Golden Bears

ESPN's David Lombardi believes Cal senior RB Daniel Lasco "may not fly under the radar much longer."

Lombardi details how Jared Goff's continued improvement will force defenders back, allowing Lasco plenty of running lanes. Lasco is only "under the radar" because Cal has been irrelevant for the past couple of years. We expect that to change this fall. The 6-foot, 210-pound senior ran for 1,115 yards and 12 scores last year.

Rotoworld:

Cody Kessler - QB - Trojans

USC redshirt senior QB Cody Kessler said he returned to school to win the national title.

"I didn’t come back to win a Heisman or be an All-American, as nice as those honors are," Kessler said. "I came back because I’m tiring of losing four games a year. I came back because I wanted to win a Pac-12 title, a national title. I really think this could be that year. We could be the team to do that." Reminded that Matt Barkley said just about the same thing a few years back, Kessler stressed that the Trojans were realistic about the work it will take to achieve such a goal. "How could we be [overconfident]?" he said. "The last two years have been ... humbling." Kessler boasts a pristine career 59-12 TD/INT rate. "It’s to the point now where everyone feels like it’s done," Kessler said of the adversity that defined much of his first four seasons at USC. "It feels like we’re back."

Rotoworld:

Christian Hackenberg - QB - Nittany Lions

Penn State junior QB Christian Hackenberg boasts a "prototypical frame that already has scouts drooling" and it "wouldn’t at all be surprising to see him sneak into the top five," writes ESPN's Travis Haney.

"With even a decent season, Hackenberg will be a sizzling-hot NFL prospect in the spring," he added. "Can Hackenberg get his TD-to-INT rate back in good form after it dipped to 12-15 last year? There were plenty of extenuating circumstances that led to such a high turnover rate -- a new coaching staff, an inexperienced line and receiver group -- but in the end, Hackenberg has to show this fall that he can be far more efficient." To the signal-caller's credit, he seems to understand that what happened in 2014 cannot happen again. "I’ve always been a guy to try and immerse myself in the process," Hackenberg said. "Right now, the task at hand is to be better than 7-6 (the team’s 2014 record) and win more football games and to do my part to win more games."

Rotoworld:

Josh Dobbs - QB - Volunteers

Tennessee junior QB Joshua Dobbs' "arm strength has improved dramatically in the two-plus years he’s been in Knoxville," notes ESPN's Travis Haney.

"Like many of his teammates, Dobbs could be poised to make a big jump this fall," Haney wrote. As a sophomore last year, Dobbs recorded 1,675 total yards of offense (1,206 yards passing on 63.3 percent completions) in six games. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound quarterback played well at the recent Elite 11 camp.

Rotoworld:

Per ESPN's Travis Haney, Arizona State redshirt senior QB Mike Bercovici won the unofficial Elite 11 QB competition held between the counselors.

Josh Dobbs finished No. 2. "At 6-foot-1 and around 200 pounds, Bercovici isn’t the physical specimen that [Christian] Hackenberg is, but he more than makes up for that with accuracy and a better fastball than you’d expect," Haney wrote. Bercovici threw for 1,243 yards and nine touchdowns in three starts last year, helping ASU upset USC on the road and beat Stanford at home.

Rotoworld:

Akron is still not recognizing dismissed Oklahoma State junior WR/RB Tyreek Hill on their roster.

Hill was dismissed back in December following domestic abuse charges, and an anonymous SEC coach ripped the former Cowboy for his "repulsive" twitter account during the football player's recruitment. Hill reportedly transferred to Akron, but the change in school might not have happened after all. "Tried to get Akron to confirm he was joining the team a couple times since he announced. Nada," ESPN writer David Ubben tweeted.

Rotoworld:

Trevone Boykin - QB - Horned Frogs

TCU redshirt senior QB Trevone Boykin hopes to improve on completing more "passes over the middle" this season.

"One of the main things I focused on was just passes over the middle, and Coach Cumbie and Meacham felt like a lot of the plays over the middle, we really didn’t complete," Boykin told ESPN. "We had a lot of throws outside. Thing like that, we’re just trying to get better. That’s where you make your money at the next level, and a dream of mine is to play at the next level." The TCU prospect made strides in the pocket in 2014, but still has room to improve in that department. Scouts will be watching for more consistent play from Boykin, as a passer this season. In 2014, Boykin threw for 3,714 yards and 30 touchdowns and rushed for 642 yards and eight scores.

Rotoworld:

James Conner - RB - Panthers

Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi noted that he needed to give Pittsburgh junior RB James Conner the ball "on third downs, whether it be a draw or a pass out of the backfield."

"He can't just be a guy that you put in a game when it's going to be a run," Narduzzi said. "As a defensive guy, I'll know when James is in the game it's a run and when he's not it's a pass. We have to get him the ball on third down -- whether it be a draw or a pass out of the backfield. He's got great hands. In the spring we did it, and it was like, 'Why was this guy not in on third downs?' So that was an emphasis in the spring and will continue to be an emphasis." The 6-foot-2, 250-pound Connor was highly productive for the Panthers in 2014, rushing for 1,765 yards, while scoring 26 touchdowns, earning ACC Player of the Year and First Team All-American honors.

Rotoworld:

Connor Cook - QB - Spartans

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline considers Michigan State senior QB Connor Cook "overrated."

If we respect Pauline for one thing, it's that he doesn't follow the herd. While Cook is a top-three overall prospect on some experts' boards heading into the year -- CBS Sports grades him as the No. 1 QB prospect in the nation and the prospect slotted No. 2 to the Browns in Todd McShay's 2016 mock draft -- Pauline grades him as a ho-hum second-rounder. "Cook has the physical skills to start on the NFL level but makes to many head scratching throws which is worrisome," he wrote. "I don’t feel he’s worthy of being a top 15 choice as many predict."

Rotoworld:

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline believes WR Michael Thomas, TE Nick Vannett and "possibly" LB Josh Perry "could contend as top 100 selections."

He only grades Thomas as a Rds. 3-4 prospect, lower than some others around the industry. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound Thomas recorded 54 receptions for 799 yards and nine scores last year. Vannett and Perry, meanwhile, were given fourth-round grades by Pauline.

Aug 1 - 1:48 PM
Ohio State redshirt junior Michael Thomas emerged "as a legitimate No. 1 option" during Cardale Jones' time as the starter, according to Austin Ward of ESPN.

Thomas caught 14 passes in the three games Jones started, nine of them resulting in a first down. Devin Smith filled the role of the downfield, vertical threat and was arguably the best in college football in that area of the field. Thomas might see some of those deeper targets now.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler believes Ohio State redshirt junior WR Michael Thomas "absolutely has top-50 potential and is poised for a highly productive junior year in 2015."

"[Thomas], not [Devin] Smith, was the best all-around receiver on the Ohio State roster last year," Brugler wrote, high praise seeing as though Smith went 37th overall to the Jets in May. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound Thomas recorded 54 receptions for 799 yards and nine scores last year. "Thomas emerged last season as a more mature and consistent playmaker, showcasing his excellent blend of size, speed and savvy as a pass-catcher," Brugler wrote. "He is solidly built for the position to work the middle of the field, displaying the light feet, toughness and dependable ballskills to line up inside or out wide. He doesn't have the same vertical prowess as Smith, but Thomas is far more advanced as a route runner and underneath target with the athleticism to make something happen after the catch."

Rotoworld:

Von Pearson - WR - Volunteers

Tennessee senior WR Von Pearson caught 83.3% of the passes thrown his way while lining up in the slot, according to Pro Football Focus.

We previously blurbed a piece of PFF info that said Pearson only dropped one catchable target last season. With Marquez North and Pig Howard on the outside with Von Pearson in the slot, the Vols have one of the better receiver groups in the country. So much of Tennessee's success this season relies on quarterback Josh Dobbs and the offensive line.

Rotoworld:

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline grades Penn State junior QB Christian Hackenberg as merely a second-rounder.

"Many have stamped Christian Hackenberg as a franchise signal caller but I don’t see it," Pauline wrote. "While he offers top 15 physical skills his defensive reads, decisions making and often sporadic accuracy worry me." At present moment, we're with him. Many analysts rate Hackenberg as a surefire top-15 pick based on an assumption that he's going to realize his vast potential in 2015. We base our evaluations not on measurements, stats or what other writers think, but what we see on the field. And what we saw last season in Hackenberg was a prospect who doesn't handle pressure well and makes too many mistakes.

Rotoworld:

Per NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter, if Marshall senior RB Devon Johnson can prove he's as "quick and agile as 2014 second-round big backs Carlos Hyde and Jeremy Hill, who both had success as rookies, then teams looking for a power back could take the leap in the top half of the draft."

"His receiving skills also give him a chance to take on an H-back role," Reuter wrote. Rockhead's hands certainly are a nice fallback option if he doesn't prove to be as quick as Hyde or Hill. He played tight end for two years before shifting to RB last season and had 12 catches for 218 yards and two scores in 2013. The 6-foot-1, 243-pounder broke out in a big way last year, putting up 1,767 yards (8.58 per carry) and 17 touchdowns to earn first-team All-Conference USA honors even though a shoulder injury limited Johnson to seven carries across three games.

Rotoworld:

Texas HC Charlie Strong suggested senior RB Johnathan Gray could see close to 30 carries per game.

"We have backups, but we'd like to see J. Gray go out and just have a big year," Strong told reporters. The biggest issue will be for Gray to stay healthy. A torn achilles derailed his promising sophomore season, and many athletes say it takes a full year to recover from that kind of surgery. In three seasons, Gray has averaged 4.65 yards per carry with 15 total touchdowns.

Christian Jones - WR - Wildcats

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline advises readers to "keep an eye" on Northwestern redshirt senior WR Christian Jones, who, according to the analyst, was "left off most scouting lists."

"He’s a big bodied pass catcher who showed well in 2013 then sat on the sidelines last year after injuring his left knee," Pauline wrote. "Unfortunately additional surgery was required on the joint in April after Jones re-injured the knee. It was a minor procedure but Jones should be able to participate in camp." The scribe currently has an undrafted free agent grade on Jones, but that could change with a strong fall.

Kevin Hogan - QB - Cardinal

NFL Media draft analyst Chad Reuter believes "there's no reason to think [stanford redshirt junior QB Kevin Hogan] can't land at least a fifth-round spot with some improvements in his senior season."

"Following Andrew Luck is not a fate I'd wish on anyone. But Hogan's handled it well, even if the Stanford faithful aren't pleased with his inconsistent accuracy after being spoiled by Luck the previous three years," Reuter wrote. "Hogan certainly looks the part, has won a lot of games (24-8 as a starter), and possesses the athleticism to be effective running the zone read at that size." The 6-foot-4, 225-pound threw for 2,792 yards (65.9 percent completions) with a 19/8 TD/INT ratio last year. "His downfield accuracy is only average, as is his arm strength," Reuter wrote. "However, there's no reason to think he can't land at least a fifth-round spot with some improvements in his senior season."

Rotoworld:

TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline believes Clemson junior WR Mike Williams is "poised for a big season" and "should move up draft boards."

As a first-year starter, the 6-foot-5, 205-pound Williams was Clemson's deep-threat in 2014, hauling in 57 receptions for a team-high 1,030 yards, and six touchdowns. Pauline describes Williams as "a smooth possession receiver with game controlling skills."
