If AB goes down AND Bryant is suspended, Corey Davis is not singlehandedly saving Pittsburgh's season.

He would make a great insurance policy against either one of those things happening though, and I would love the pick if he gets that far.

An anonymous NFL scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Iowa QB C.J. Beathard will "end up being one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league."
This is one of the best back-handed anonymous compliments that we've read during the process. "As a starter, he doesn’t do a lot of things by himself," the scout said. "But he’s got a good arm, he’s accurate and has intangibles. Athletically, you want a little bit better." Beathard entered last season with more fans in NFL circles, but he sealed his fate as a Day 3 afterthought upon dropping off from a 95.7 rating as a junior to an 80.8 rating as a senior. "He’ll play 10 years as a second- or third-team quarterback," said a second scout. "He’s smart as (expletive) and a great kid. His grandfather should be in the Hall of Fame." A third scout concluded: "In the games where they put pressure on him he just starts putting the ball up for grabs. He did play hurt. In the bowl game they beat the crap out of him and he kept coming back."

One "national scout" told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that Cal QB Davis Webb has "Dak [Prescott]-like intangibles."
Webb's buzz is growing as we close in on draft night, and Rapoport says he "wouldn't be surprised" if Webb comes off the board in Round 1, with the fifth-year team option for first-rounders likely playing an important role in that decision. Webb has been linked to the Browns at No. 33 overall if they miss out on Mitchell Trubisky. We'll likely see three or four QBs taken Thursday night.

Davis Webb can't throw an accurate pass when under any kind of pressure. He was in a skills challenge with other 2017 prospects and had to throw a ball into a net from 15 yards away. He overthrew it 4 times then had to turn and throw a pass to his teammate. He threw it in the dirt. So, 5 of 7 passes inaccurate with 0 defenders trying to tackle him or intercept him.  He's very, very overrated.

Trubisky is too in my opinion. Most of his highlight throws were to players in wide open situations. He's not going to see that as often in the pros.  

 
An anonymous NFL scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Virginia Tech QB Jerod Evans has the "same type of arm strength and same type of athlete as DeShone Kizer, but Kizer is more advanced."

Since Kizer is extremely raw himself, this isn't the compliment it might appear on the surface. "A real project," the scout said. "[Evans has] a strong arm but he has no idea where he’s throwing the ball." NFL Network's Mike Mayock has predicted that Evans won't get drafted, but some team might take a shot on Evans' raw ability late on Day 3. "He’s raw but I love his presence," said a second scout that was quoted in the piece. "Off the field he has a long, long ways to go as far as the football learning and background. He really should have stayed in school. He’s big and strong and athletic. You like that he went there and took over the job and had a damn good year."

Agreed it would be nice to see deeper into this list.

I enjoyed learning about the grading process used to develop the ratings. Makes sense. I am still a bit puzzled by the draft round assignment step.

I left a comment for the author asking about these two things. 

 
NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein reports that Grambling State WR Chad Williams will go "way earlier than I expected."
Williams was seen as a mid-Day 3 pick, so we wonder if Zierlein is insinuating that he'll be picked on Friday's Day 2 (Rds. 2-3). At his pro day workout, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Williams posted a 40-yard dash in the mid-to-upper 4.3's, 35.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-3 broad jump.

In Peter King's personal account of the 49ers' 2017 draft, it is revealed coach Kyle Shanahan was the impetus for the team's fourth-round trade up for Utah RB Joe Williams.

King sat in the 49ers' draft room and recapped all seven rounds. GM John Lynch had removed Williams from his draft board for off-field reasons. Entering day three of the draft, Shanahan made it clear he wanted Williams and so Lynch obliged, calling Williams on the phone and getting his side of the story on Williams' checkered, multi-school past and temporary 2016 retirement. The Niners then traded up to get him. In San Francisco, 4.41 speedster Williams will try to force a committee with grinder back Carlos Hyde.
