[Dynasty] 2017 Draft Prospects (1 Viewer)

Way too early to answer, but

What does tthat even mean?  Are you taking for 2018 already?  If you don't want to win, then what do you care about need?  Get the two players with highest value, which are probably going to be Fournette and Chubb, and trade them to fill need if you ever do want to win.
Cook?

Am I wrong for considering Fournette and Mike Williams or Corey Davis at 1 & 2. 20 team dynasty, non ppr. I NEED a solid WR on my roster. It's a 20 team league, start 3 WRs/2 RBs.

I have Derrick Henry and don't want to win this year. Also having picks 6 and 7 I could take a RB2 at that range assuming the top 4 are pretty much set. Out of McCaffrey, Foreman, Kamara, Mixon, Perine, someone will fall to me. I'm looking to rebuild and was hoping in 2017-2018 season to also pick in the top 4, and 5-12.

also fantasy wise, do you believe this tight end class is as legit as it looks, who is your top 3 tight ends, in order?
As Herm Edwards said, you play to win the game. So I am not sure I agree with your strategy to not win this season. I do think every team has a shot as long as you give yourself a chance to win this year.

If you are employing a strategy where you hope your team will be strong in upcoming seasons than this one, then do not invest in RB. Build up the rest of your team at WR and QB until those positions are good, then start looking at RBs to finish your team. If you load up on a bunch of RB and don't trade them away, your RB may be injured or replaced by the time your WR and QB are ready to help you compete.

I mean, in a 20 team league, my plan isn't to win/compete after 1 rookie draft. I need to fill positions with youth and top talent. One team has Carr, DJ, Demarco, ODB, Hopkins, Demarius and Jordan Reed.

I'm sitting on Derrick Henry, Martavis Bryant, Pryor, Robby Anderson, Patterson and picks 1,2,6,7,13 this year. My team won't compete with the team above in 1 year of drafting.

From looking at past drafts, most higher 1st round draft pick's at the WR position ended up pretty good. (Cooper, Evans, Watkins, AJG, Julio etc) Then of course there were the ones who busted. (Mostly speedsters) If Williams or Davis can produce near any of the above, I wasn't sure if they're comparible to Fournette/Cook in terms of talent. Then in the case I take a WR, it would allow me to take a 2nd/3rd round RB who goes to a team in need of RB at the 6,7 position.

Not sure I ever understand starting a season thinking "I don't want to win"... you never know which players might catch fire and put you in a position to make a run.

That said, I'd probably be looking to trade away Pryor (I think someone will overpay for him) and Patterson (if anyone will pay for him).

Draft wise, if you're not looking to take Fournette and Cook, I'd probably look to trade back. Maybe someone would give up 1.3 and another pick for your 1.2?

I think your reasoning is sound and I'm someone who is not ruling out one of those WR's at 1.1 or 1.2 but only if they are my highest rated player. I learned my lesson in 2014 and don't want to make mistake again. That was of course the bonanza WR draft and I went Sankey at 3 based purely on need even thought I was not a big fan and similar to your thought process I thought I could get a WR later.

I think if it's close it's wise to factor in position need  but only if it's essentially a tie breaker between two players you have almost rated equal.  Take BPA and if it's a RB it's not like they are hard to trade.

And yes this TE class is every bit as legit as it looks. I've said this a few times but I'll say it again. I'll never predict a class to outdo the 2011 TE class, but this will be the highest rated TE class as incoming rookies I've ever seen.

1. Howard

2. Njoku

3. Evans

God please don't let me take a Sankey. Lol

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline has not come away impressed with the work of Pitt TE Scott Orndoff at East-West Shrine Game practices.
Pauline relays that Orndoff looked "marginally athletic" during Monday's practice and added after Wednesday's practice that "speed is a major question." The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder also struggled to consistently catch and block this week. Testing results are going to be crucial for Orndoff if he wants to garner any sort of NFL interest as a late pick or priority street free agent.

Either trade down or draft the RB and trade him later.  They are going to have the most immediate value and will net you the best return.  If you aren't expecting to compete today then need is irrelevant, you're about building overall talent level.

Take Fournette and Williams then take the best RBs available from Mixon, Kamara, and Foreman. Don't get cute. In a 20 team league with what you already have, if you add those four players you are absolutely a contender if not this year then next.

@Brandon Will

Do what your gut says to do. You are holding pocket aces and honestly cant go wrong. You could probably even spin that 6 and/or 7 pick for a legit WR on draft day. People get rookie fever and can do some serious reaching.

On Tex's list, I'd take Njoku over Howard. He's a bigger Shannon Sharpe.
There's no wrong choice between these two. In this situation I give a little more weight on experience without having the Combine or Draft yet it's close but Njoku will probably perform better when that time comes. Dude can high jump 7 feet and might run a 4.5!

Tex

What's your question?

Tex
Who do you mean when you say Evans?  The question was who your top 3 TE's are, but I don't think there's an Evans on anyone's radar.  There's Evan Engram, there's Gerald Everett, and there's a Josh Evans from VT who is a QB, so wondered if you were thinking Hodges but misspoke?

Soooo proving with their play that they should have been drafted in the top 50 is outweighed by the fact that they weren't?

Is that really your position?
yes.......

really that hard......even if they let teams re-draft those drafts they were in....not top50 players.....unless brady and belicheck come too.................

There is no world, and no result from one game where Hogan is EVER a guy who should have been drafted in the top 50.

What this means is that the NE staff is head and shoulders above most of the rest of the league. They should be embarrassed that they are so incompetent. ATL is doing the same right now. Taylor Gabriel was wanted by no one and now he's a serious weapon. We saw hat NE was able to do with Moss. Imagine how good they would be with game changing WRs.  They just have to be smart. Chad Johnson was way to dumb to play on the team and he proved it.

The whole organization is. It starts with having perhaps the best owner in the league and proceeds from there.

I see your point. But the person in my league who finished last in 2015 got Zeke this year and finished 2nd. So teams can turn around 100% in 1 year.  IMO your best bet would be to trade the #2 pick for 3 or 4 if you are ok with 1 of the WRs. But what will probably happen will be that 2 of the top 4 will go to much better situations than the others. Then I would take those top 2. Maybe try and trade 7 or 13 for a pretty good older QB.  But if you got Fournette, Williams, Mixon, Kamara and Njoku, you could end up being pretty damned good next year.

Where are you guys at on John Ross?  As far as I can tell there's no thread for him here.  He keeps getting mocked to the Bucs incessantly.  "DeSean Jackson clone" seems to be the description I read the most.

Floor = DeSean Jackson

Ceiling = Antonio Brown lite

I've read he could be a better pro than Brandin Cooks.

High praise.  Speed is clearly legitimate.

He doesn't look like he enjoys contact all that much though, but that could just be a size thing, and may not be a huge concern unless you intended on sending him over the middle of the field on crossing routes.  DeSean doesn't like getting hit either.

Cooks seems bulkier to me.  I don't think Ross will hold up to any kind of pounding.

Tampa surely needs weapons and getting someone with 4.3 speed on the outside couldn't hurt.

He's so good, I would take him if the Bucs drafted him. ;)  He's ####### fast. We will have to see what Ross measures at the combine. If he comes in 5'11, 190 like he's listed at, that's fine.

Right. Desean isn't just Will Fuller with hands, or something...he tracks the ball better than the vast majority of the league and is a technician catching along the sideline. Its easy to under-appreciate him if you only see his scoring highlights but he's got something special.

Is he soft? Yeah, sometimes. Is he questionable in the locker room? I don't really think so, he's been in Washington for a while now and not a peep, even when he's not getting targets and we're losing. No off field trouble. He's not a perfect prospect even for his size, but he's up there, as far as deep threats go.

I'm pretty sure he's only (and barely) behind Jerry Rice in catches of 60+ yards in his career. That's incredible. He's arguably one of the best deep threats in the history of the NFL and you could also argue he's been criminally underutilized, even though the DPI's he pulls for his teams don't show up in his stats.

So yeah, Desean as a "floor" would be incredible. Almost any team would spend a high 1st on that. And I'm talking production and skillset here.

I'd say Kenny Stills might be a better contemporary comp. Or at least a more realistic one.

He will be lucky to be half as good as desean. The problem the little fast guys face is can they beat the press in the nfl.......
This is what bothered me about Ross against Alabama. He also looked quite skittish after getting hit early.

Something Tampa has done recently though is grab a guy in free agency, and then draft a very similar guy early. Grimes/Hargreaves. Ayers/Spence. Jackson/Ross?

Cooks is the player comp I gave Ross. Most have been saying DJAX as player comp but he's thicker built. Dede Westbrook fits more in the DJAX comp for me.

But I would say floor is lower than DJAX for both Ross and Westbrook. Floor for both is Dorsett, meaning they both could suck until proven otherwise.

I wouldn't argue with your last statement.
