For me mocks are fun when they first come out and then get mocked out and lose my joy. I tend to look for two things in them. I like to check mocks by beat writers just to see who they are mocking to their team and mocks by plugged in national writers who base their mocks on what they hear. But I can certainly see why it's appreciated with all these mocks in our face when someone goes off the trail a little.

On that note I was just scanning my twitter feed and saw this mock by Bills beat writer that also has Carolina trading down to 2 to take Fournette and giving up their second and 2018#2 to move down 6 spots. I just can't see it myself but maybe I'm wrong, here is that mock: Joe Buscaglia mock

Greg Gabriel bio

Greg Gabriel is a former NFL talent evaluator who was the director of college scouting for the Chicago Bears. He also previously served on the NFL College Advisory Committee that gives feedback to college players who are considering entering the draft. Since leaving the NFL, Gabriel has written for the National Football Post and Bleacher Report and been an on-air contributor for 670 The Score and a contributing writer for CBSChicago.com. He lives in the Chicagoland area.

Wyoming RB Brian Hill visited the Viking and Chiefs, according to Aaron Wilson.
Hill went through a private workout with the Falcons. Hill left Wyoming early and likely winds up on the third day. He seeks out contact, wanting to finish each run with a physical note. Hill tested in the 49th percentile at the NFL Combine.

Greg Gabriel's 2017 NFL Mock Draft

Excerpt:

As many of you know, I am not a fan of Mock Drafts because I feel they are mostly fantasy football. As soon as the first trade occurs, every mock get thrown out of the window. That said, I feel there will be plenty of first-round trades this year and I also feel that there will be four quarterbacks chosen in the first round. Much of the draft media has taken shots at this quarterback class over the last few months. That hasn’t been the case with NFL clubs. There has been an inordinate amount of private workouts done with the QB’s as well as visits to different clubs. That says one thing, the QBs are hotter than many think.

Pro Football Focus compared Alabama WR ArDarius Stewart to San Francisco 49ers WR Pierre Garcon.

"Like Stewart, Garcon had little experience against man defense and press coverage [coming out of Mount Union in 2008], and there were questions about his route-running," explains the PFF analysis team. Garcon has overcome those deficiencies to carve out a nice little career in the pro ranks. The outlet refers to the 5-foot-11, 204-pound Stewart as "a quietly solid receiving prospect in this draft class." We could say the same thing about a number of potential mid-round wideouts in what is an underrated positional class overall. Stewart could see draft love as early as the second round, though the third or fourth round might be slightly more realistic.

Pro Football Focus compared Virginia Tech TE Bucky Hodges to Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham.

"Graham spent his first year in the NFL improving his blocking technique and, with that same level of organizational development, Hodges possesses the tools to become one of the better tight ends in the NFL," writes the PFF analysis team. While the 6-foot-6, 257-pound Hodges has the requisite athletic chops for that lofty Graham comp, he will need to shore up his routes and hands if he is going to make good on that comparison. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein offers a more modest comp in the form of Devin Funchess.

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein compared Pitt TE Scott Orndoff to San Francisco 49ers TE Logan Paulsen.

"Orndoff will struggle to get open, but can make contested catches and function as a play-action threat near the end zone," Zierlein writes, adding, "He does have the size and desire to become an NFL blocker who might improve a rushing attack that is soft on the edge." The 6-foot-5, 253-pounder caught 35 passes for 579 yards and five scores this past season. He could potentially fall off the board late on Day 3.

Grambling State WR Chad Williams visited the Houston Texans this week.

Williams might not be a household name, but the speedster has been one of the more popular potential Day 3 picks during the evaluating process. In addition to the Texans, the Rams, Seahawks, Bills, Giants, Eagles, Cowboys and Redskins are all kicking the tires on the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder.

Wyoming TE Jacob Hollister visited the Houston Texans earlier this week.

In a deep tight end class, Hollister is not guaranteed to be drafted later this month. However, there are those that are extremely high on the 6-foot-4, 239-pounder's professional potential. Pro Football Focus, for one, believes that he could be "one of this year's steals of the draft" due to his ability to "[terrorize] defenses at the short-to-intermediate levels." Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline believes that even if he goes undrafted, Hollister should be able to make an NFL roster as a free agent.

Baylor QB Seth Russell (ankle) was cleared by doctors during his medical recheck Thursday and Friday in Indianapolis.

Russell fractured his left ankle on Nov. 12. He also fractured a bone in his neck in 2015. At the NFL Combine last month, he only threw and went through interviews while ballparking himself at 80-percent health. Russell worked out for the Cowboys at their local prospect day recently and talked with six teams after Baylor's pro day earlier this month. Russell posted a 60/18 TD/INT ratio over the last two seasons. He's hoping to hear his name called late on Day 3. Russell will be a priority UDFA if that doesn't happen.

Pro Football Focus compared LSU WR Malachi Dupre to Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates.
Coates has become a popular catch-all comp for athletic-but-raw wide receivers the world over. Writes the PFF analysis team, "[Coming out of college Coates] was very good at taking the top off the defense and could run the vertical routes, while also being a strong after the catch threat. But he had trouble with non-vertical routes and struggled with consistent catching." The 6-foot-2, 196-pound Dupre's development was hampered by LSU's horrific passing game and one NFC personnel director has suggested that he might have been better served returning to school for the 2017 season. During Combine tests, Dupre ran a respectable 4.52-second 40-yard dash, plus logged explosive leaps of 39.5 inches (vertical) and 135 inches (broad).

An AFC area scout said that Texas A&M WR Speedy Noil is not on his board due to a confluence of factors.
"He is off of our board. Good athlete, but not a good football player and not a guy we want in our locker room," the scout said. The former five-star recruit was arrested multiple times during his Texas A&M career. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein believes that despite the 5-foot-11, 199-pounder's athletic upside, "character concerns inside the scouting community could make Noil a difficult sell until after the draft."

Imo, all of the '17 QB's suck, so this is a terrible year to do what you suggest.

There are only 2 guys coming down the pipe that could be Franchise level QBs' These teams have no shot at them. Darnold and the kid from UCLA. I think they need to start throwing #### against eh wall now and see if it sticks.

 
NFL Media's Lance Zierlein likens Tennessee RB Alvin Kamara to former Cardinals RB Thomas Jones.

"Ascending, competitive runner who has flashed explosive NFL talent at various times over the last two seasons," Zierlein wrote. "A committed runner with excellent balance who finds yardage that isn't blocked for him." Kamara was curiously underused at Tennessee, never attempting even 20 rushes in a single game. He was, however, flashy when used, accruing 23 touchdowns in only 284 touches for the Vols. The 5-foot-10, 215-pounder has either visited or is scheduled to visit the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers. Kamara is projected to be chosen on Day 2.

Temple QB P.J. Walker visited the Packers, Bills and Giants, according to Aaron Wilson.
Walker has his fans in the draft community despite not attending an all star game and producing an overall quiet process. Walker will likely be viewed as a late round prospect or undrafted free agent, similar to Trevor Siemian coming out of Northwestern.

Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire visited the Falcons and Giants, according to Ian Rapoport.

McGuire previously worked out for the Falcons. Rotoworld's Josh norris is a big fan of McGuire's talent as both a runner and receiver. We don't expoect him to be drafted until day three, but he might be a nominee for this year's Jordan Howard.
