[Dynasty] 2018 Draft Class (2 Viewers)

Oklahoma State WRs James Washington, Marcell Ateman and Chris Lacy went through workouts with the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans this week.

The Cowboys (NFL species) put the Cowboys (collegiate species) through their position-drill paces on Tuesday, with the Texans following suit on Wednesday. Mason Rudolph was kind enough to serve as the thrower in those drills, as he noted that his receiving buddies had been helping to prop him up all spring. Of Washington, Ateman and Lacy, it's Washington who will be drafted highest, as he's a lock for Day 2 later this month, assuming that a team doesn't just take the plunge near the end of the first round.

Post-combine composite rankings

Data sources: Footballguys, dynasty league football, goingfor2, dynasty nerds, dynasty football factory, fantasypros.com, ESPN, dynasty trade calculator

Key: Pre –pre-combine ranking, post = post-combine ranking, Count – number of post combine rankings (cutoff of 12), average (Avg) and standard deviation (SD) excludes minimum and maximum.  Median is where 50% of the values are ≤, 50% are ≥

Tier structure:  Based on gaps in average

Code:
Post Pre Player Pos School Count Avg SD median
1 1 Barkley, Saquon RB Penn State 43 1.00 0.00 1.00
Unanimous #1. Valued as a cornerstone piece.

2 2 Guice, Derrius RB LSU 43 2.22 0.61 2.00
85.4% of rankers had Guice #2. If you do not like him, someone below you
probably does

3 3 Michel, Sony RB Georgia 43 4.78 1.93 4.00
4 7 Chubb, Nick RB Georgia 43 4.80 2.40 4.00
Chubb has risen post combine, a Matt Waldman favorite.

5 4 Sutton, Courtland WR SMU 43 6.44 2.74 6.00
Sutton is a Nick Whalen favorite, I see high ceiling / low floor

6 6 Jones II, Ronald RB USC 43 7.61 3.25 7.00
7 5 Ridley, Calvin WR Alabama 43 7.76 3.91 7.00
BMI says no for these guys....enough talent to compensate?

8 12 Moore, D.J. WR Maryland 43 8.66 3.07 8.00
9 8 Washington, James WR Oklahoma St 43 9.39 2.40 9.00
10 9 Penny, Rashaad RB San Diego St 42 9.40 3.89 8.50
Moore is a riser, dominant share of MD offense. Washington reminds me
of Hakeem Nicks. That said, Penny is my favorite of this group.

11 10 Kirk, Christian WR Texas AM 43 12.73 3.75 13.00
12 15 Freeman, Royce RB Oregon 40 13.24 5.00 12.50
13 11 Johnson, Kerryon RB Auburn 42 14.18 4.30 13.50
A large tier drop off from #10. I like what I saw from Johnson but worry
that his style of play will lead to higher level of injuries / faster
decline.

14 14 Gallup, Michael WR Colorado St 42 16.33 5.53 15.00
Lots of flux from here downward. Pick your guy. Sans Gallup, there is a
huge tier drop off from 13 - 15.

15 16 St. Brown, Equanimeous WR Notre Dame 41 18.03 5.92 18.00
16 17 Kelly, John RB Tennessee 39 18.59 6.80 17.00
17 18 Miller, Anthony WR Memphis 39 19.14 6.63 19.00
Bloom is high on Miller. Those who watched Kelly versus Florida are all
in. How bad was ND QB play?

18 23 Goedert, Dallas TE S. Dakota St 38 21.72 7.17 21.50
19 20 Rosen, Josh QB UCLA 38 22.25 5.88 21.00
20 13 Tate, Auden WR Florida St 37 22.83 7.05 21.00
21 49 Chark, D.J. WR LSU 32 23.00 6.78 22.00
22 31 Jackson, Lamar QB Louisville 37 23.17 7.58 24.00
23 39 Gesicki, Mike TE Penn State 34 23.94 6.52 23.50
24 24 Mayfield, Baker QB Oklahoma 37 24.00 5.55 25.00
25 19 Walton, Mark RB Miami 40 24.32 7.83 23.00
26 21 Cain, Deon WR Clemson 35 24.79 7.50 25.00
27 26 Darnold, Sam QB USC 33 24.97 5.56 25.00
28 22 Andrews, Mark TE Oklahoma 35 25.06 5.57 25.00
Gesiscki and Chark are risers post combine. Andrews is barely hanging on
in this tier. Top 4 QBs and top three TEs in the same tier.

29 40 Pettis, Dante WR Washington 29 26.70 9.76 31.00
30 Callaway, Antonio WR Florida 17 27.20 8.21 33.00
31 27 Ballage, Kalen RB Arizona St 34 27.25 6.42 28.00
32 25 Adams, Josh RB Notre Dame 25 27.96 7.31 27.00
33 36 James, Ritchie WR Middle Tenn 19 28.41 7.58 30.00
34 29 Ateman, Marcell WR Oklahoma St 19 28.53 4.14 30.00
35 30 Allen, Josh QB Wyoming 21 28.79 6.86 28.00
36 43 Coutee, Keke WR Texas Tech 13 29.27 7.54 31.00
37 44 Hines, Nyheim RB NC State 28 30.31 6.22 29.50
38 38 Smith, Tre'Quan WR UCF 22 30.75 6.22 33.50
39 47 Scarborough, Bo RB Alabama 22 30.85 6.60 32.50
40 42 Hurst, Hayden TE S. Carolina 24 31.82 4.17 31.00
41 33 Wadley, Akrum RB Iowa 23 32.00 6.37 35.00
42 46 Jackson, Justin RB Northwestern 13 32.00 4.96 33.00
43 48 Wilson, Cedric WR Boise St 13 32.18 6.74 33.00
44 32 Robertson, Korey WR S. Miss 12 32.40 3.75 31.50
45 34 Cobbs Jr., Simmie WR Indiana 19 33.06 5.18 34.00
46 37 Lazard, Alan WR Iowa St 17 33.33 3.94 34.00
47 41 Lasley, Jordan WR UCLA 19 34.29 3.35 36.00
Pettis is rising, if you want him you probably should jump him up a tier.
I tend to draft highest potential ceiling guys in this area and not worry
about floor or landing spot. RBs that may flash I also favor, RBs are a
scarce commodity in my primary league. Looking hard at Hines, he was
moved from WR to RB so he may develop further. I'll be happy if I get
Hines or Jackson (early producer) in this tier. Since 2017 mid-season,
Josh Adams has consistenty slid down the rankings. Many FBGers like
Coutee.

Whatever WR goes to DAL in the first round is going to shoot up the rankings.  This is why you don't trade rookie picks until May.

I have to assume it's Ridley at this point.  Unless they want the poor mans version of Dez in Sutton, I just don't see him going that high.

I'm a big fan of Sutton and that would cause me to rethink my 1.04 strategy, which right now is pray Guice is there and take Penny if not.

Best of the rest:  Below is the equivalent of "others receiving votes", or those who did not survive the "12" cutoff from prior post.  I would keep an eye on Jaylen Samuels.   Though listed as a TE at the combine, he did a lot of RB work at NC State.  A TE that could be a goal line vulture and some passing down duty could be intriguing fantasy factors.

Code:

You like Penny over Michel and Chubb? I have 1.04 too and I’m really torn over what I’m hoping my happens.

The NFL draft will spell it out for us.  The Chubb/Michel/RJII/Penny (and maybe Kerryon Johnson/Royce Freeman) group will be sorted out after the draft.  Until then that group of 4 is interchangeable to me.

I’m drafting right now, took penny at 5. Michel went 4, chubb 3. Freeman went 12, Johnson 2.04. Ballage went 1.06 surprisingly, before jones. I was happy Michel went 4.

For me, Michel is a guy I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger on. It’s the ball security mostly, although he also didn’t really tear it up until late last year. He’s a guy that has had steady hype in spite of being slower than expected and having some glaring ball security issues. Jones and his nagging offseason leg injury has me pushing him back, probably behind Sutton and Moore.

Especially if Sutton lands in Dallas. Though I like Penny a lot too

I have the 1.04 and will take Penny unless Chubb or Guice fall. I'm just not sold on Michel either...

An NFC area scout questioned whether or not North Carolina State TE/RB Jaylen Samuel's versatility creates value.

"Here is the problem I'm having in writing my report," the scout says. "Does he have any special talent or is he just a player who is used in a variety of roles? Is he really, really good at any of his roles or just versatile?" The scout says the difference between the two could be the difference of him going on Day 2 or 3. The 5-foot-1, 229-pound Samuels doesn't have the ideal size for tight end, nor does he have the speed you typically see from a tailback. That makes Samuels an ideal H-Back, a position with value, but difficult to justify in the top 100 picks. Still, because he's so good catching the ball out of the backfield, it wouldn't be a shock to see Samuels go late in the third, or possibly early in the fourth.

South Carolina TE Hayden Hurst met with the Ravens on Thursday according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

Hurst is projected to be a late first-round pick right now, and it makes sense considering their current roster construction for Baltimore to have interest. It would likely take a trade down in the first to make sense value wise -- or perhaps a trade up in the second -- but despite being one of the older players in the class (25), Hurst could obviously help Joe Flacco and the Ravens in 2018.
