[dynasty] Are you nervous about the value of 2011 rookie picks (1 Viewer)

Im sure in most leagues commissioners havent gone over what happens in the event this happens. Obviously a lockout alot of underclassmen would likely go back to school right thus devaluing the draft choices even if they have the draft anyway. What if theres a lockout and the NFL doesnt do a draft, do you get screwed out of those 2011 rookie picks you traded for?

Right now the gamblers over at in trade have a lockout as 34% likely to happen which seems pretty high and Im starting to get nervous are you?

I think it's already been confirmed that there will be an NFL draft next year, even if no new CBA is in place at that time.

Yeah, but the question is whether the underclassmen will declare for the draft. The top players are usually the early declarers (juniors mostly). There may be an NFL draft, but I'm not sure I'd want to be heavily invested in this particular draft. Might be fun to invest heavily in the 2012 draft that could be stocked if all the underclassmen from 2011 stay for their senior years.

I don't think Norris is asking IF there will be a draft. I think he's questioning how valuable the picks will be if none of the underclassmen come out for the draft because of the current issues.

I interpreted the bolded as him asking if the NFL will hold a draft.

They declare by mid January well before the cba expires in March. Even if there is a lockout there will be nfl football again and the players will get paid based on their draft position so dont see how it will effect their decision one way or the other. If they wait there will be twice as many good players and it could effect their draft position.

Maybe they'd get their bonuses but not their salaries, which is great for the top tier guys, dunno about the lower guys. They wouldn't be getting paid much at all, would have nothing in the bank and no football to play.On the other hand, if they go back to school, they continue to live the rock-star college lifestyle, continue to get room/board/stipend etc. and still play football.I'm not saying they'd ALL opt out, I'm just saying it very possible more than usual will.

I for one am not devauling the picks. I think it might come down to preference as to if you think this draft class is as deep as past or as the anticipated 2012 class.

Speaking from my experience in one dynasty league this past spring/summer I had one person look to GET picks for 2011 instead of 2010 as part of a trade. Worked for me as I was able to get Best and Benn this year.

The players will sign before the holdout. So money won't be the issue. In fact, this could be the last season without a rookie cap, so wouldn't that push them towards coming out? Correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, it would. I see no reason why juniors wouldn't come out, every year that they could. It's an extra year of earning power. There will be football in 2011, like there always is. If it comes down to it, the players will cave, like they always do. I am amazed how many people think it's possible to have no football next year. The rhetoric is the same as always, and the outcome is always the same.
