Im fairly shocked he didnt show up, I dont think this has ever happened before in the NFL. I think if he showed up last week Mike Brown would have hated to pay him that kind of money to be a backup and might have cut him, we would have atleast found out if Mike Brown is more stubborn or more cheap. Im not sure what his plan is now he's certainly not doing his job at forcing himself out of Cincinnati, why is he taking this line and whats next for him?

Rumors were that the Bengals, worried about starting Dalton Week 1, approached him about coming back right before the season opener, but he kept his stance (won't play in Cincy)

Hes been working out wih ken obrien in cali. Obrien is his qb coach from sc.

I honestly dont see anything this year from him. Mike Brown does not cave in on anything, especially when being spurned by one of his players.

Next year he will most likely get dealt for a 5th rounder when he could have fetched a second this year. Who knows with mike brown?

Dave Lapham (Bengals TV/Radio) was on the NFL Network the other day he he said the only way Palmer could get Brown to maybe move him this year was to pay back a prorated portion of his signing bonus he was given when he signed his extension a couple of years ago.

I think that one of two things is going on here:

1. Palmer feels like he's got a better chance of being released by showing up at midseason (because Brown won't be stuck with his entire salary).

or

2. Palmer doesn't want to come back, ever.

I believe his salary is guaranteed for the whole season. The issue with week 1 salaries being guaranteed is that if a players salary going into that year wasn't g'd then it would be if he is on the roster week 1, but Palmer is g'd his (prorated) salary once he shows up.Two possibilities left-1. He won't even show up to play for the Bengals this year no matter what- 95%2. He will report for week 10 to accrue his year against his contract and threaten to do that every year for the next 4 years. 5%

One thing to look for in his contract would be a roster bonus of some kind that he might be able to get without playing any games. This would be his best leverage.

That's a lot of the $20,000/day fines.

He could always go play at Notre Dame... They're desperate and after losing today and going 0-3 to start the season. They'd be willing to take the chance on the NCAA violations!!! ;)

Working out with Ken O'Brien seems to eliminate #2 on this list, no?He's 31. He wants to play. Just not for this organization, anymore.

A thought with little evidence.

If- and I don’t know if he does- Palmer has an opt out fee equal to the 9 mill option bonus, and If- and again I don’t know if he can- Palmer can force this decision by showing up for a handful of late games this season ala Vincent Jackson last year Palmer could conceivable show up week 10, create a #### storm and then force the Bengals to either pay him 9 mill which they MIGHT NOT be able to claw back if he doesn’t play for them in 2012 and beyond or cut him.
