[DYNASTY] Misfits 'n Outlaws-VI dynasty draft (1 Viewer)

thanx for the monumental compilation jobs by tick & couch potato.i have a pretty good idea about how i value players (tradeoff of young/old, potential & promise vs. proven production)... but this thread is like a skeleton key to help unlock what OTHERS are thinking in this offseason... a window into the aggregated discounting that is going on regarding the events of the recent season, the few tenuous rumors that have taken place in the brief offseason so far, and how we are projecting into the upcoming year & beyond.for someone with a dynasty draft in next week or so... great thread & keep up the outstanding collective work. :^)
  Any chance we'll go ahead and post our draft Bob?Seems the league is mostly FBGers. It might be interesting to see what others think of the draft.

The guy who is up right now has been on the clock 7+ hours with pick 186 (14th round).  He drafted at pick 179 and didn't bother to pre-draft this pick, yet he disappears all day.  By the 14th round these decisions aren't life and death.  Pre-draft and keep things moving.  Geez.  I see that as disrespectful to the rest of the league, personally.
Update. Same guy still on the clock. Approaching 17 hours now. I thought I remembered reading that the commish had put a 12-hour limit on picks at this point? We start drafting Monday and we'll be finished before you guys. :D
He did.It's obviously not working.

I think he said something about a 12 hour limit with overnight hours not counting. He should be close to his 12 hour (daytime) limit.

the timer was moved to 12 hrs....'timer malfunction', I guess :( we DO NOT allow for overnight, as owners are spread accross 1/2 the world in these leagues...only because I get up for work at 2AM and didn't check the status before I left did an owner spend 17 hrs OTC..:sittingwithfingureonskippick

OK, so I'll talk about my draft though it was less impressive than Steeler's.B next year...
Blah blah blah... What I want to know is did you really meet Andy Griffith?
lol no.bonus points to anybody who knows the reference (and not because I mentioned it once in FFA).
All to easy.Al Bundy and his family went on vacation in Florida and there was a serial killer that would kill tourists. The knife came up through the bed and they ended up catching him. The town was so small or at least did not have anything going on other then the serial killer and "The Man who met Andy Griffith." The town could spare losing one or the other but not both of them. The Bundy's survived their trip to Dumpwater, Florida.

Joker has a good memory.

lets ask gringo loco, but i don't see why not.

The nice thing about Duckett is that he's a decent guy to plug in for bye weeks/injuries. I guess the real question is whether or not he'll ever become a workhorse back in the NFL. It's impossible for me to answer that with any certainty, although the recent track record of big RBs is not very good. Aside from Jerome Bettis, I can't think of a single 240+ pound back from the past decade who became his team's starter for any significant length of time. That doesn't mean Duckett won't eventually become a stud, but I do think the lack of successful "big" RBs is worth noting.
jamal lewis is listed at 245... but your point is well taken... i couldn't think of any other starting RB from 31 other teams. ricky williams might have been CLOSE to 240 when he entered the league, & guys like eddie george & fred taylor performed at high level at close to that (235?)... but duckett is somewhat of a freak listed at over 250. he definitely isn't a lumbering plodder like dayne. the odds of so few big backs succeeding (aside from bettis) at a feature RB level, might be mitigated by fact that he is so blazing fast... isn't he considerably faster than bettis ever was in his prime? not sure if he is a legit 4.4, but he moves awfully good for a power back.an interesting comp player might be the nigerian nightmare... christian okoye... didn't pick up a football until 23... out of football after six seasons... if he had more longevity he might have played within your stated last decade parameter. okoye was a was a physical specimen who was his nations champion in the 100... and in the shot put. got to think that confluence of speed, power & athleticism has to be pretty rare in the history of the planet. he did lead the NFL in rushing for the chiefs one year, but his problem was that he ran too upright & too many kill-shots by the defense quickly took their toll. if duckett learns to run with body lean & good pad level (if in fact he doesn't already), he could be a beast. especially with opposing defenses already on their collective heels having to concern themselves with vick.
Does it strike you as odd that he's been in the league for several years (drafted same time as Shaun I think), and yet two coaching regimes have been reluctant to give him the full-time gig? That's the only thing that sours me on him.

Duckett entered in '02 (18th pick overall) behind W Green and ahead of D Foster and C Portis.Dunn has just been too productive to get him out of the lineup, and Duckett isn't much of a receiver. Until Dunn slows down enough to not have him out there, Duckett will have to be content sharing. But, he was very young coming in, and turns just 24 this week. Plenty of career ahead.Alexander entered in '00 with the likes of Dayne, T Jones, J Lewis (all 1st rounders).

Thanks for the correction. That's pretty young. In hindsight I probably should have taken him at 3.14 and hoped for Perry to fall to 4.10.

Just checking, where do you rank Lamont Jordan?

Given that I have heard of several teams actively pursuing him, I rank him pretty high. Since Duckett isn't a FA that's obviously not happening. Anyway, like I said, I am starting to like Duckett more than I did.BTW, Curtis Martin >>> Warrick Dunn.

Anyway, I disagree that this is a balanced league. Two teams (Miami Cowboys, and Mistakes Were Made = 1.14) are shaping up as the best, with you (1.13) up there too. In MOX III, there were really no dominant teams coming out of the draft.
This was basically what I was talking about in one of my earlier posts. Although the MOX IV draft this year was my first experience with dynasty, after that one and watching the MOX V draft, I felt most of the teams turned out as I expected they would after an initial veteran draft. I was expecting something like a redraft league with more emphasis on youth ending up with most teams having a balanced mix of young and old and no particular teams are THAT much more dominant than the others.THIS draft has turned into what I expected a more established dynasty league that has been around for a few years would look like. Some teams have been built almost entirely on future prospects as if the team were in rebuilding mode, other teams are stacked to be dominant players for the first few years with a few teams middle of the road (I believe myself to be middle of the road.) :wall: I'm trying to be nice about commenting on some of the trades that have been made, because individually I don't think most are that one-sided. But I'm a little upset some of these people trading didn't come talk to me more often! For example, if I had known Alexander was on the table, I could of made one heck of a better offer over what was taken! Too little, too late now I guess...

Now that the draft is SLOWLY winding down I wanted to do the same thing Steelers did earlier and discuss who I took, when I took them and more importantly, why I took them at the time. I actually made no trades during the course of the draft although I discussed many different options through-out the earlier rounds, and as a consequence, my team ended up looking very close to what I expected it would.1.01 - Ladainian Tomlinson - easy choice here. I did post my willingness to trade down out of this spot but only received one offer. Interestingly enough, it was an excellent offer that I would of taken, but the offer was rescinded before I ever even knew it had been made because I had forgotten to turn on email notifications for trade offers.2.14 - Fred Taylor - I fully expected to take at least 1 RB at the turn here but knew the pickings would be slim. I was hoping more guys like McNabb and some recievers would go in the 2nd round leaving me with some better options at RB in this spot but I ultimately ended up taking Fred despite the fact I'm not a big fan of his. He was the safer of the Henry's/Dunn's and I wanted to stay away from much older guys like Martin.Tried to trade down out of one of these spots figuring someone would love to jump on McNabb but didn't receive any good offers.3.01 - Donavon McNabb - I loved this pick at the time. I never take a QB early, but McNabb will be my starter for a number of years and I never expected him to last to me in the 2nd. QB's lasted A LOT longer in this draft compared to the others, so as far as getting value at this pick, I think it was slightly diminished. In hindsight, maybe I should of gone Chad Johnson instead, but there was no way to know that a guy like Bulger would still be around in the 6th.4.14 - Darrell Jackson - Easy choice here as I wanted to go young, solid WR's with a number of good years ahead in their career. I expect him to be a solid contributor to my team for awhile.Once again, tried to trade out, but in this case, the only offer I liked was contingent on Darrell Jackson being available and I wanted him for my own team. Received a lot of offers after the fact for Jackson, but I didn't think any of them were worth losing him.5.01 - Steve Smith - Considered Horn or Chambers here but Horn was too old for want I wanted my team to be, and there are a lot of questions about what's going to happen with Miami so I went upside. I'm not expecting Mushy numbers next year, but he is young and should put up top 15 or at least top 30 numbers for a number of years.6.14 - Deion Branch - Wanted another solid WR starter who was young and on a good team. Only downside is the Pats spreading the ball around so you never know which week he will get his numbers. This isn't a big problem though because I will probably HAVE to start him every week with the lack of RB's available to me.7.01 - Defense, Baltimore Ravens - I'm not the kind of guy to take a defense early either, but I wanted a top D and after looking at the other drafts, I knew none of the 3 I wanted would make it back to me.8.14 - Eddie Kennison - Needed a 4th Starter and loved that Kennison was overlooked by other teams. The guy scored only 6 fewer points than Darrell Jackson despite playing in 2 less games. I consider it value to get him 4 rounds later than Jackson even if he is on the wrong side of 30.9.01 - Chester Taylor - My lack of RB depth was really starting to show now. I felt that Taylor was one of the best of backups available at this point and that he could actually see some playing time.10.14 - Reche Caldwell - Great young guy who really took off and then got injured and now people seem to have forgotten him.11.01 - Rex Grossman - The Bears really showed some flash in the first 3 games before Grossman got injured. If they can add a topflight WR in the draft, this team could surprise on Offense.12.14 - Jason Elam - Like the Defense, I wanted a top kicker on an offensive juggernaught and didn't think the best ones would be available when things came back to me in the 14th.13.01 - Terry Glenn - Another WR who flashed something and then got injured this past year. He's a gamble, but since I won't need him to start, I can take the gamble.14.14 - Kenny Watson - Young guy with some skills in Cinci. If Rudi is gone, I don't think Perry getting the starting job is a lock.15.01 - Michael Turner - Backup for LT2, Jesse Chatman was long gone at this point, but he is a free agent I believe and could possibly be gone.16.14 - Antowain Smith - Another best of the backup RB's. Chris Brown has shown a tendency to be brittle, so maybe he'll see some playing time if the Titans don't replace him in the draft.17.01 - Johnnie Morton - Not a bad value WR for the 17th round. Plus I could use depth in case one of my "injured" WR's doesn't ever make it back from their injury.Overall, the draft turned out about what I expected from my slot. I believe I am fairly middle of the road, but with some excellent tentpole players to hopefully build around for the future. RB depth is obviously my weak area in the short term, but hopefully my top 3 QB and excellent WR's can make up for it. As it is, I think I'm one injury to my RB's from being a cellar team or if my guys can stay relatively injury free, I could have a top team. It's interesting looking back to see how many guys I took who were injured this past year, they just seemed like the best values at the time I picked them based on what they could do if they are healthy.

Buckna--I like the team you have built up from your position in the draft. The only questionable call I'd see is the lack of RB's rounds 3-8. McNabb made sense at he time, but as we saw the QB run didn't materialize until round 6. WR core is strong, I was the guy after Darrell Jackson in the early 5th round. It is hard to go early on a QB(3rd taken), Defense (1st taken), and Kicker (2nd taken) and have a lot of depth at both RB and WR. You should do well if Fred Taylor plays all year and Leftwich improves to open up the offense. New OC (I think?) in Jax leads to a ?? in how Taylor is utilized. I think we'll see both Flex positions coming from your WR group, so the comeback of S.Smith, Reche, and Terry Glenn could determine your 2005 season.I'm curious to see how the rookie draft plays out, especially from picks 6-18.

Yeah, I knew the direction I was going in was going to be risky for RB depth. I would of been more comfortable trading out of the 3.1 to move down in the 3rd and up in the 4th which would of allowed me to take a Duckett or a Dunn or maybe a Henry and then still pick up a quality #1 receiver. When I was unable to do that, I felt the majority of the RB talent left out there after the 4th round came back to me would be mostly a crapshoot. There were RB's I was hoping might last to 4.14 like a Chris Perry or an ATrain or Duckett, but of course, they went well before the draft came back to me. By that point, I felt like loading up on top quality players with a number of years left at the different positions and then trying to fill in holes either thru the draft or trading in subsequent years was the route to go.I still think my team can be quite competitive in the initial year with the way I've built it and from my own observations of some of the competition, but I won't be able to sit on my rear when it comes to WW, trading or drafting to build some quality depth for future seasons. Should be interesting!
