Dynasty Salaries for a startup? (1 Viewer)

I want to start a Dynasty league with a salary cap - what is the best way to approach setting the salaries for the players? Should each player be auctioned off and whatever he goes for will be his salary for the year?

What about the remainning FA"s - do they get a default salary?

Auction is probably the best/fairest way to do it.Another option would be to define a per-point salary. (Each fantasy point is worth $10,000, maybe).Multiply each player's points times the per-point salary to determine their salary. For free agents, make it an auction either way.

If you really want to get into it, you probably should look at the value above replacement player (or marginal value) above a free agent. For example, let's say you are going to have 12 teams and 22 roster spots. That's 240 roster spots plus K and D. Find the 288 best scores from 2010 and determine what the estimated league population will be (say 40 QB, 70 RB, 80 WR, 30 TE, etc.). Find a baseline player for each position (Say QB30, RB50, WR60, TE25, etc.) and that's your minimum salary. Add up all the points above the baseline player for all QB/RB/WR/TE above the baseline player and then divide to the total point pool by the league budget. An example:QB25 = RB50 = WR60 = TE25 for 100 pointsAll QBs, RBs, WRs, TEs scoring >100 points add up to 6,720 points (i.e. QB1 at 350 points is worth 250 (350-100 baseline)).If you want each baseline player to be $10 (I would recommend more, but it's your league) and each team has $500 budget, if your team was full of "baseline guys" the team would cost 20x$10 plus K and D. Call it $220. That's $280 "marginal bucks". 12 teams x $280 = $3360. That means each of the players scoring above 100 points are worth an extra $1 per two points (6,720 points / $3360).Good luck and have fun with it.BTW - I favor auctions.
