Dynasty- "Toilet Bowl" (1 Viewer)

In one of my leagues, it was suggested that we begin using a "toilet bowl" playoff series for next year. This should eliminate tanking and keep all owners active throughout the season. I know there are many different ways to set this up, so I would like some input. What are your league rules when it comes to those teams that do not qualify for the playoffs?

this is right from my leagues bylaws:

The 6 teams not making the playoffs participate in the Lottery Bowl. The Lottery Bowl mirrors the playoff format above, with the 2 last place teams getting first round byes (should either last place team make the playoffs through total points, then the byes will go to the 2 worst remaining records). The eventual Lottery Bowl champion receives the first pick in next year's draft. Remaining order of finish in the lottery bowl (2nd through 11th) is irrelevant when determining the rest of next year's rookie draft order. Draft order is otherwise determined by previous year’s results, from worst to first with the exception that the teams making the playoffs cannot have a pick better than the 7th and the teams making the lottery bowl cannot have a draft pick worse than the 6th in each round (trades not withstanding). The only teams with a draft position determined by playoff results are the Fantasy Bowl winner (12th pick of the 1st round) and the Lottery Bowl winner (1st pick of the first round). While the order of the 1st round may be different than the other rounds, the order for rounds 2 – final round will be the same (not including trades).

The scoring for the Lottery Bowl will be weighted as follows:

Team 1 (Last place during regular season) 15 points

Team 2 (2nd to last during regular season) 12 points

Team 3 9 points

Team 4 6 points

Team 5 3 points

Team 6 0 extra points

We don't have a Toilet Bowl. We don't really need it. We can trade picks as far out as we want in this dynasty league so most of the time the owners don't own their own 1st rounder.

We do have an incentive not to tank. One of the guys in the league picked up a concrete football on a tee. It's regulation size and weighs about 40 pounds. He spray painted it gold. Whomever winds up with the worst record has his name written on the "trophy" with a sharpie and the owner has to lug that thing to all league functions for the next year.

We have a Toilet Bowl in my redraft league that has been running for 8 years. It decides draft order for the next year. Guys like having the number one pick so it works reasonably well.

I have also had Toilet Bowls in dynasty where the winner gets a cash prize. There is no change in draft order in the dynasty formats though.

12 team league: 4 worst teams make the TB. Losers advance. The loser of the TB has his/her team renamed by the league for the upcoming season. The winner of the toilet bowl bracket wins the #1 pick for the following rookie draft.

16 team dynasty *keep 2* league.

8 teams do not make playoffs = Toilet Bowl

Winner of the 8 team bracket - 1st round pick (Ladanian rights)

Loser of the toilet bowl pick 2...and so on.

in my dynasty leagues the toilet bowl has no bearing on the rookie draft. But we have prize money set aside for the toilet bowl winner. When the regular season is over, we award the #1 pick to the worst team. Idea is to help the worst teams instead of rewarding the team that may have JUST missed the playoffs by giving them the top pick. i personally think this helps the balance of the league.
