Dynasty: What is Helu's value moving forward? (1 Viewer)

Tronic Son

Yes yes, I know, Shanahan is more evil than one can imagine. Save it. When was the last time Shanny benched a true stud running back? When was the last time he even had a true stud running back? I think it was Portis. I don't ever remember him benching Portis during his prime. Wait, did this clown just say Helu's a stud RB? No I did not. That's what this thread is for. Lets decide now whether he can be. I watched him play this year and was quite impressed. He reminded me of a Forte type talent. He can run through contact and has speed in the open field. Not to mention he can catch it. I am thinking of making a play for him this offseason and want your thoughts on his current and future value. Thanks in advance for your input!

I like Helu, he looked good. Royster looked good as well when given the chance. I don't know if either will ever be considered "studs" but I think either could end up being productive if given enough touches.

Only Skeletor knows the answer to this and if you ask him he will say 'gold' and then start Royster.

Hard to say. Earlier in the year, Shanahan says he thought Helu couldn't handle the workload of a feature back, then gives him the opportunity and he does well with it.

Then Helu gets hurt and Royster gets a turn and does just as well. To the point of Shanny's son Kyle saying Royster is "a natural".

Unfortunately, you probably need to get both.

I sold him just recently because I just don't want to deal with Shanahan and wasn't the biggest believer in Helu to begin with.

If they sign someone of the Tim Hightower level, I think Helu has as good a shot as anyone to carry load next year. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they make some attempt at someone better.

I remember reading they didn't believe Helu was a feature RB as well -- anyone have any updates on this? I know it's Shannahan and he probably doesn't even know who is starting but Royster was really impressive at the end of the year, and if they think he's more feature back material than Helu he could be a nice offseason buy.

It was really more that the OL was impressive at the end of the year. Royster seemed to have better vision than Helu, but he lacked top-end speed to make the most of his runs.

Be curious to see how it all shakes out. I just really don't see how the Redskins draft another RB really high. When both Helu and Royster put over 100 yard rushing days with ease. And are more then capable of carrying the load. The Redskins have many other needs besides RB. I think RB is the last of their worries.

I used this logic to get rid of Arian Foster before last season - Houston under Kubiak has been Shanahan-lite.In other words, this isn't necessarily the best strategy.

In dynasty, I'm sitting on Helu unless I can get a legit starting RB in return. There's just too much unknowns for him to have much in trade value, but there's still this nagging inkling that maybe, just maybe Helu will be the back to counter Shenanigans and I'd rather have that given his success (albeit limited) this year than the offers I'm likely to see.

I thought this was interesting. Posted on Fantrax after week 14 I think.

Out of Roy Helu's 126 yards against the Patriots in Week 14, 77 came after contact. Helu's impressive tackle-breaking ability jumps out on the film. He's also shown a tendency to get better as the game goes on and even his blitz pickup skills are improving. Helu's three straight 100-yard rushing games and every-down role are not flukes.

I don't think he's a fluke either. But what I gather from most replies is you guys don't think he'll be a stud. I think I'm seeing it differently. But hey, I've been wrong once before :hophead:

Ryan Torain last year and Tim Hightower, Roy Helu, and Evan Royster this year make me think of Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, and Reuben Droughns. If any one of those guys is in the RB1 position, they will produce and be very valuable in fantasy. If they hold onto that position for 16 weeks, they could pile up 1,500 yards of offense and 10 TDs. But, none of those guys are Terrell Davis. They are all subject to being replaced by the next guy. None of them are special enough to fight off all competition.

I tend to believe this as well :goodposting:
